Dominick Cruz's 8 BEST TACTICS

In this video, I will be breaking down 8 tactics used by former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz. I have also added real time footage of me applying these tactics in my own sparring sessions, as well as some tactics I learned from watching Dominick Cruz that I gave it my own spin to it!

    The reason why you end up out of range on your uppercut, is because when Cruz leads with it, he's switching stances into it, which closes the distance. The only uppercuts he doesn't switch on are the ones where his opponent is closing the distance on him. Other than that, great analysis!

    lol I kept coming back to this video multiple times. Dominick Cruz has quickly become one of my favorite fighters in MMA in the past few years; I've seen multiple video studies of Dominick, and this is the one that's helped me finally apply some of his footwork and angles, namely the dart, to their full effect. I like how you show the way you adapt his tactics to make it fit your own style and strengths.

    It’s insane the amount of cardio and knee dexterity to fight with Cruz’s style for an entire fight. There’s no wonder he’s had so many knee injuries because that style requires some very dynamic darting and pivoting, straining the knees. Not just that, but trying to fight with that movement for a single round, constantly bouncing around and entering with off angles is incredibly tiring.

    Great insight! Also during the dart ins leading to the combinations i find it way easier on smashing my back leg and jumping into a shuffle just like you would switch kick(ball of the foot) in order to make the switch more explosive/cover way more distance and then follow up with the step on creating the angle. Dominick really has understood the concept and changed the game in my opinion on footwork and angles.

    I love tactics 2 & 3 cause i use them all the time, but i always end the combo with a roundhouse kick, pretty effective to score points. Because when fighting with veterans, they usually catch us with roundhouse kick to score points, so following up immediately with a kick of our own is probaly recommended to keep the score even.

    Hello, I have a Big question about muscle conditioning for impact/striking (not bone conditioning), martial arts like Kyokoshin karate, Shaolin kung fu and Muay Thai. So I'm trying to learn about the science behind muscle toughness conditioning. I've started reading about Wolff's Law, but i read that his original work ONLY applies strictly to bone hardening. He never wrote about muscle hardening. To save you writing an essay, would you be able to point me towards any solid literature and science on muscle becoming harder/denser/tougher from impact and striking? Like dropping a medicine ball on your abs for example. I've been doing that for about 6 months, and my abs are "thicker", but i don't know how to prove it. And like the shaolin guys being lifted on spears, Kyokoshin guys taking full force punches to the body etc. What has SCIENTIFICALLY happened to their muscles to be able to do that? It's not just breathing. Something has physically happened to their muscles too. Do you know any good books or scientific research etc on this subject? Thanks so much!

    Hey question how long does it take for something to become natural after drilling it. SECOND QUESTION I heard a coach say you should drill and not train moves because if you train moves your limited where as drilling gives you options what does this mean can u explain and also can we talk via email

  • @MMAShredded

    @MMAShredded

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hard to answer the first question too be honest, I think it depends on everyone. You want to drill it so that you react instinctually instead of thinking of what to do. Of course there is a game plan in which you plan ahead, but countering and attacking with timing should all be from your drilling!

  • @MMAShredded

    @MMAShredded

    You do, but like any slipping of punches, you risk slipping into a head kick. But it doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't slip. It all depends on the scenario and who you are fighting.

    In tactic 4 i believe you found yourself out of reach because cruz is crouching to the right side as he steps in. punches he was appeared to slip and counter were actually reaction to cruz stepping in. it is impossible to slip and counter with an uppercut like that unless your opponent really overcommits to his right or you step in deep with your slip.

  • @blackhoodie4170

    @blackhoodie4170

    Yes, in fact, this style was directly created to fight taller opponents. Cruz used it in amateurs, where his weight class didn't exist yet so he fought much, much taller and heavier guys all the time. you can't get touched by your opponent at all when hes bigger longer and stronger than you, you have to use your agility and movement to your advantage. He explains that in multiple interviews. Angles completely nullify a reach advantage, and it's much harder for them to turn after you pivot on them. After the amateurs, he took it to the pros after his weight class was created, and he stuck with the style. I'm still amazed by how Cruz ducks under strikes against much shorter opponents, too, which is way harder than avoiding and going under the strikes of a bigger, taller guy.
