I've actually come to a point where I really like Load/Reload. I used to bash the shit out of them when I was younger. Now I just appreciate them for being pretty catchy rock records.

slipknotpurity00 I feel exactly the same. I hated load and reload when they came out, but now, I actually can't stop listening to them

Load and Reload are both genuinely great rock records (regardless of what Phil Anselmo says). They were both examples of Metallica's success as a metal band actually serving to their detriment, as it prevented those albums from being critiqued in a fair light. They still got far too much hate IMO.

I love your iron sandwiches Dom, for some reason I enjoy hearing you talk about music....unfortunately while I'm a huge Metallica fan I'm not big into metal generally so I don't know most of the bands you talk about (and therefore don't listen) so this is a nice treat getting to enjoy one of your sandwiches. I love the album, I loved Death Magnetic but this feels much better, more natural, heavier, groovier...the vocals and vocal melodies are fantastic too. They've finally brought out a great album and I'm fucking delighted. Regarding snobs, each to their own......once in the Intrepid Fox metal pub in central London I had a middle aged metalhead with hair down to his arse wearing a Slayer shirt come up and get in my face saying Metallica are pussies (Blackened was on at the time and I was loving it). Metal snobbery definitely exists, fair enough if people don't like Metallica but this notion of true metalheads claiming metallica sold out etc can just fuck off.

Well the great thing about the age we live in now is that I can convert my CD's to MP3 and delete all the shitty tracks and condense something into a great album. I've done that to quite a few albums.

Death Magnetic was alright, I could whistle Cyanide, really like the chorus on that track. My two cents.

love your take on Dream No More....this is an awesome Sabbathy/Alice In Chains tune. I agree that the record is too long though. Halo on Fire could be great if it was 2 minutes shorter, but I will say there are some great guitar harmonies on it.

I think you must have the same feeling towards the black album as I did because I liked holier than thou and thought the rest of the album was boring! I Loved them back in the eighties and of course I don't see them living up to the first 3 albums greatness and justice is great but without Cliff I think some balls were taken from the band and their ability to write angry killer songs! I totally agree with you this album has grown on me and I been playing it since it was put out first time I did that for one of their records since the eighties

Oh, hey, he liked it! That's great. I still like DM(+BM) and even St.A though, can't fucking help it and don't even want to help it. I'd love a remastered 10th anniversary edition of Magnetic, it would really deserve it, and we do too.

I think it's funny that both sides call each other the same names and all while discussing a subject that is mainly opinion, the facts are Metallica changed their sound in the 90's and have experiemented since....the rest is opinion,so trying to tell any side they're wrong and why no matter how knowledgeable you are or even criticizing them instrumentally is still mainly your opinion...i have learned by experience,i used to war with ppl about it and at the end of the day it's all about the ear test, what you like or not as an individual ✌️🤘

Agree with the review, I do like Halo of Fire, other than that I'm fully aligned. Yes, the album is too long. There are also problems with the mix (drums are so loud!), many uninspired guitar solos and a boring album cover. If they had worked harder to produce it better and made it an 8 song album (CD 1 + Here Comes Revenge+ Spit Out The Bone), it could've been fantastic.

Whilst I agree with most of what you say here Dom honestly I don't think you can level the inability to self edit charge at Metallica and then say that Maiden haven't suffered from the same issue over the last few records there are bits of the Book of Souls that sound like the bloody Blaze era ...

  • @HeyTray1

I love death magnetic for the songs. But yeah the production/mixing is horrible. However you can listen to a remastered version on KZread that removes the compression and I personally love it. Good review btw

The only songs I don't like are 'Am I Savage' & 'Murder One'. Take those two out to make the album 10 tracks and it would have been album of the year for me

Agree with everything you said Dom. There's 4 songs too many on the album and the production, while better than the shitfest that was Death Magnetic, is still really crap for a band of that level. They need to go to Andy Sneap to get a really killer sound, and I'm shocked that they haven't already.

  • @89Wrathchild

Sam Sagins I still felt it was more concise than Final Frontier. So many of the songs on that album were long and bloated just for the sake of it. I know that sounds dumb because Empire of the clouds is the longest track they've ever recorded.

this review highlights to me one simple fact, Lars as a musician isnt good enough to play with the rest of the band. Hammet is a good guitarist. Hetfield is arguably one of the strongest rhythm guitarists in metal and while Trujillo will never be able to capture Cliffs raw skill (im a cliff fanboy), hes an exceptional bass player and can more than easily keep up with the band but lars is weak, his drumming can be sluggish or uninspired.
