Dolphin Quantum Review

This is my review on the Dolphin Quantum pool cleaning robot. This is Dolphin's new flaghip cleaner, the next generation of the Quantum model and it performs really well!
The Quantum is designed to clean your entire pool including the floors, walls, and waterline. This is a waterline cleaning beast! With Powerstream jets, the Quantum is actually able to move along the waterline to scrub it meaning more waterline coverage in less time!
One of the more user-friendly robots, it has an easy access top-loading gigantic debris canister and yes, it includes an ultra-fine filter! Love it!

    The Dolphin Quantum is one of the most durable and well designed robotic pool cleaners I have ever used. I have a 15k gallon bean shaped pool with pebble tech that I only scrub once at the end of the season and once at the beginning, leaving the rest of the work to my Quantum. It power scrubbing brushes remove algae completely with every pass, and the powerful motors have no issues picking up leaves, rocks, and other debris for an entire week before being pulled out to clean. I forget it in the pool for weeks sometimes and its still running like new. The design of the robot as very clever in that it is simplicistic making it very easy to take apart and put back together for cleaning. Its been in my pool cleaning for 3 years now and I can honestly say that it runs just as well as it did when I first purchased it. From the pool pump and booster pump running 12 hours a day or more I was able to chop off 6 hours and removed the booster pump. I am saving over $200.00 dollars a month in electricity with this new setup!

    Hi, how does the Dolphin quantum compare to S200 - cleaning, motors, ultra fine filters versus nano filters

    Hi, thanks for reviews! I'm in the market and came down to two choices, this Quantum or The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro. They are relatively similar in price. Is there one that you would recommend over the other? Thanks!

    Right now I'm loving the Scuba S1 Pro. Aside from the main difference of being a corded vs cordless, on paper, the Scuba S1 Pro wins. It has wifi/online app with OTA updates, ultra-fine filter, and access to optional cleaning modes. All of which the Quantum doesn't have. The Quantum is a more simpler cleaner that does a good job. But at this point, it does feel a little outdated compared to the S1 Pro.

    I can understand why lol. Tons of cleaners and choices out there. One big major difference would be if you need a cleaner that has "smart" capabilites and app control. That would knock off a lot of cleaners.

    Do the ultra fine filters put additional pressure on the impeller motor?...just interested in understanding if this will impact the lifespan

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    The ultra-fine filter doesn't use MORE power than a fine filter does. Uses the same BUT, sometimes it will look like the cleaner is moving slower or not able to climb walls/ledges. This is normal for any cleaner with an ultra-fine filter though. Sometimes there's a noticeable difference, sometimes not. It may look like it's moving slower but it's because it uses more of the same amount of power to filter debris through a thicker filter. It shouldn't have any effect on the general lifespan of a cleaner. Hope that makes sense!

    Hi! This may be a dumb question, but when the quantum got stuck on the main drain, can’t I just move it myself if it gets stuck or will that ruin it? I just figured it would be ok to help it along if I noticed it.

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    @imdefinitelydavid

    Ай бұрын

    Oh you can move it no problem. It won't affect the navigation or anything. It's just that it should be designed to get itself off. For times when you leave the cleaner in the pool and go about your day and come back to it. I'd be upsetting if it was stuck on the drain for 2 to 3 hours instead of cleaning the rest of the pool

    So I love the quantum but I saw your review on the se auto shark and now I don’t know what to get cause there is an 800 dollar difference between them, just wondering if the shark cleans as good as the quantum

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    @imdefinitelydavid

    The Shark is impressive for being the price that it is. Some of the best features are the aggressive waterline cleaning AND the fact that it's a cordless cleaner. The Quantum is sort of a different type of cleaner to compare it to. It's corded for continuous power, and the major benefit of it is the Maytronics brand name. Usually associated with more dependability. I mean both cleaners have a 2 year warranty but in general, Dolphin cleaners last over 2+ years. I have a few Dolphin cleaners that are 5+ years old and still running strong. The Shark has yet to be able to be tested for so long because it's a newer company. But honestly, for an 800 dollar savings, you could buy another 2 more Sharks later on if they did break down lol.

    Hi! Do any of the robotic cleaners you have reviewed work on the water line/walls of vinyl liner, in-ground pools? Thanks!

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    @imdefinitelydavid

    7 ай бұрын

    Vinyl lined pools are tough to figure out because they're usually all custom and built differently. You don't want a very strong/aggressive waterline scrubbing robot in this case because of the risk of breaking down the vinyl. You're more better off with a cleaner that cleans up the wall UP to the waterline and then backs down. So it touches the waterline but doesn't aggressively scrub it. Off the top of my head, the Nautilus CC Plus does that well

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    @imdefinitelydavid

    Another robotic cleaner that comes to mind, if you're considering a cordless one, is the Dolphin Liberty 200. That also cleans up to the waterline and doesn't aggressively scrub it.

    @@imdefinitelydavid Thank you for the fast response and the advice! Do you plan on purchasing the Aiper Surfer S1 Cordless Robotic Pool Skimmer when it’s released? Sounds like a clog. If the filters are clean I would take a look at the impeller. It's really easy to access. Open the top lid and you'll see two screws on the plate under it. Take those two off and pull the plate back along the cord. And there will be another plate, take that off and clean out all the debris you see inside the impeller. Most of the time a twig gets stuck there and clogs it up. Good luck!

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    @imdefinitelydavid

    Two very good cleaners! But very different. I would consider the debris type and amount of debris you get. The Shark is a crazy good valued cleaner. The best feature of the Shark is definitely the aggressive waterline cleaning. But the Shark struggles against big sized debris. The inlet to suck up debris measures in at 5.25" so if you get giant leaves in the pool it won't work well. But if you have normal sized debris it'll work perfectly fine. If you get a lot of debris as well you have to consider the time you'll take recharging the cleaner and running it again. That's a downside to all cordless cleaners. The Quantum won't have that issue. Also, if you're looking at smart capabilites then the Shark is limited. The Quantum doesn't have wifi or app control either but you don't necessarily need to use an app for it to work well. In general, a more basic pool with a normal amount of debris, the Shark wins, value wise. Otherwise, the safe bet would be the more expensive Quantum lol

    @@imdefinitelydavid Thanks for the response. Our pool build was completed two weeks ago, and we have palms/pine trees shadowing the pool. Seems like the Quantum would be the better purchase for attempting to grab those needles, yeah? The Betta Skimmer was delivered today, so I have that covering surface debris. Wondering if the Betta + Shark would be a solid combo.. Seems like the Betta isn't having any issues grabbing pine needles.

    Oh yes for sure! I have a similar setup with redwoods surrounding my pool. The Quantum has that larger inlet for debris and a bigger canister too. Congrats on the Betta! It'll definitely lower the amount of cleaning time. Hopefully you get enough sun to charge it and your trees aren't shading the pool/sunlight

    Thanks for reply! Would you say the sigma does a better job than quantum going up to ledges and stairs? Or same? (I had a sigma for 30 days and returned it, it did an ok job on ledges) now deciding to either get this or buy the sigma again. I tried the aiper seagull pro and even the beatbox aqua sense pro (new) and the sigma was way better.

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    I would say the Sigma does a better job on the ledge than the Quantum does lol. Which isn't great since you returned that. Have you considered the Premier? I actually think the Premier does better than the Sigma does and it's actually built in a similar design. But the Premier doesn't have wifi or app control if that's important to you.

  • @imdefinitelydavid

    @imdefinitelydavid

    3 ай бұрын

    Also, the new version of the Aiper Seagull is the Scuba S1 and that climbs well on my ledge. There's actually a Pro version of the S1 that should be released soon with online app and ultra-fine filter as well. And it'll be less expensive than the Sigma. And yes, the Beatbot aquasense pro isn't a specifically great cleaner for one area, it only excels in the fact that it's a good cleaner for multiple areas in one machine lol.

  • @mshagd.8949

    @mshagd.8949

    The cordless vacuums seem to have less suction. I was hoping the Beatbot would be stronger at that price point. I’ll be returning that as well. The sigma i would even throw into my spa and it would clean the entire thing. These other “smart” ones don’t clean the ledges because they think the seats are the waterline. Removing the robot and charging it also becomes annoying after a while. I think best bang for buck was the aiper seagull pro. I wish it would just continue up onto the ledges. What’s the best robot out there? Bottom line? Sigma and premier? Poolbots has the sigma for around $1,300.
