The first time I heard "He's Alive" was in church by our choir. It sent chills through me. When the soloist hit the first, He's Alive, I was on my feet with arms raised... for the first time in my life. A few other friends did the same & it was the start of a revival in our quiet little church.

I saw this live on the Country Music Awards on TV. An incredible song and a fantastic performance. The song was written by Christian artist Don Francisco and he sang it in the late 70s. Dolly's performance is really the gold standard for singing it. She brings such power and conviction to the song. It's just a well-written song that conveys the Easter story in a way that's not maudlin or saccharine, but is powerful and emotional. God bless you too, Ty!

When my mom was rolling my hair for church when I was little, this was my favorite song to come on. It mostly came on around Easter. But any other time, she’d yell for me to come to the makeup room to listen. “It’s your song!” she’d scream. It was the very first song I downloaded onto her iPhone years ago. It has a very special place in my heart. He’s alive and I’m forgiven. ❤️

I also saw this when it aired on television, and I was captivated. I'm no longer a Christian, but I have very strong ties to the songs of faith, and hymns from my childhood, and this is one of them. It helps that Dolly Parton performed it. As a gay kid and lover of gay icon Doy Parton, it somehow helped me to see her singing a song of faith at that time. CMT aired this as a music video (Dolly DID release it on an album), and for the short time that we had cable, I would wait for this video to come on. It may have been my love of the performer, her gorgeous gown, or my love of story songs. Either way, I loved it. Back then, you couldn't look it up at anytime on KZread. You had to tape it, if you wanted repeated views. I have very fond memories of my Christian upbringing, and my parents' effort to instill in us those kinds of values. I still listen to this around this time of year. Thank you, Katrina...it's definitely an EXCELLENT song for the Easter season, and in general.

This is one of those heart-bursting songs. : ) Dolly sings it so well. There is a video of this, sung by Don Francisco, that I like even better. The video portrays the story as well, so that increases the impact of the message. As for why I like it, or what makes it such a great song? It's a tremendously emotional ballad that tells the story, simply but eloquently -- in everyday human-speak. So we relate to it better, perhaps, than the old Easter cantata songs we grew up hearing. They were rather grand, and bombastic, often with formal or outdated phrasing, and while musically lovely, that formality places them at a distance from them. We can watch them when the choir performs, and applaud politely, but they're not the kind of song you can sing yourself, because they rely on intricate instrumental sections, and need all 4 parts of a choir. Hard to remember the words, because frankly, we don't talk like that! But this one is in our language, in a simple melody, and packs more passion than the grander pieces. I love this. All right, Ty . . . too much info, I know, but, ha! you asked! lol

So great I love dolly and love this song. Wish more folks would get into church. My church is barely hanging on it so sad. We have 30-40 people attend now. Such a shame younger people aren't going to church more often

I absolutely love this song 2 thumbs up. I get chills...the good kind of chills...when I hear this song. Powerful song with a powerful voice. Other artists can sing this but my opinion I don't think anyone can convey the power this song has quite like Dolly. She felt what she was singing.

Love this song. A dear friend of ours, Leon Westerhouse, an Evangelist, sang this song regularly and my brother and I growing up, would love it when he sang it because he was so into it and genuine, and would stomp when he sang it. He recently passed away and We wondered who could pull off singing “Leon’s” song at his funeral.. well his kids knew only he could and it was Leon singing He’s Alive, and there was not a dry eye in the house... I wish there was a digital copy out there, his kids are working on that. He was a witness no matter where he went, sharing his faith, winning souls to Christ. If he said he was praying for you, he was. He had notepads full of names and his prayer time was long and full. I don’t think of this as just an Easter song because Leon sang it all the time, because he wanted everyone to know that he’s alive and ready for you and loves you unconditionally. Thanks for sharing, with tears rolling down my face, it brought back wonderful and dear memories.

The original was by Don Francisco and it's awesome, too. Dolly did an excellent cover version of this annointed song. What can you say? She's Dolly Parton. She recently did an acoustic version during the COVID19 Lockdown. This song is one of my standard must have songs for Easter. Keith Green's "Easter Song"and Dallas Holme's "Rise Again" are the others.

I had heard this song by the man that wrote it.. AND by Charlie Danies ( he sang it at church one Sunday) but Dolly 's version and the fact that she sang it live on TV at some country music awards show and took Nashville to church!! I wish the camera had spent more time on the audience.. she touched a lot of souls that night. amen.

This came out from another artist soon after I was saved in the mid '70's. There were some phenomenal Christian songs being done in that decade. Dolly did a magnificent job on this one. As she always does.

I listen to this song every Easter morning. It reminds me that Jesus was a man, and his followers were human beings with the same fears and doubts we all share. Then on Easter morning Jesus wiped away all doubt about who He was and what He had accomplished!! He had pained the cost to reopen heaven to us!!! Our Lord loves and cares for us, we are important to Him!!

The first time I heard that song, was by chance as I was surfing KZread ... and it blew me away. Chills, tears, amazement and so many emotions came one after the other. I am a huge fan of Dolly, however, I hadn't heard that song before a few years ago. Every time I hear it since, I've had the same emotions. I play it every Easter since then and even before/after Easter. I need to hear it once in awhile and it seems to restore my faith in mankind. A must listen for sure.

Don Francisco wrote this song. I watched the night she sang this at the Grand Ole Opry stage. I think it was some kind of anniversary of country music. As soon as I saw her outfit, I told my wife "She's going to sing 'He's Alive'!" There were not many dry eyes in the audience, as the camera panned around.

I saw this televised live in the early '80s ('82 or '83) on a secular awards show (either AMA's or CMA's), which thrilled both me and my wife to no end. The original was recorded by Christian artist Don Francisco and is tied for the most weeks at #1 (10 consecutive) on the CCM charts with another Easter-ish number: Dallas Holmes' "RISE AGAIN", which would be another worth reacting to. This Dolly rendering is still my long-term favorite and gets me shouting "Glory", knowing that it was such an oddity/rarity to see & hear Christ lifted still on national T.V. before a largely un-Christian audience. I still get chills! Denny Myers
