Her Imagination Library project has delivered millionns of free books to children across the U.S. and internationally (she started it as a project for the poor and underprivileged children living around the area where she was born); in 2016, she donated $1,000 a month to the people in and around Gatlinaburg, TN, who had lost thir homes in the Great Smoky Mountains wildfire (not sure how many months that entailed, but it ended up being over eight million dollars). This past April, she gave Vanderbilt University Medical Center a million dollars for COVID research (and remember, this was early, when few people even knew about the pandemic, and even fewer had any idea what kind of catastrophe it would become).

@Dharmabum9287 Dolly made her own guitar and wrote her first song, and performed it on stage before the age of 10. She was raised in a 2 room cabin not far from where I live. Her parents paid the Dr. who delivered her with a sack of cornmeal. She was so poor she used to mix up her own makeup. Her grandfather was against her singing country bc he was a "hellfire and brimstone kind of preacher" to quote the Knox. News Sentinel so she would sneak over to her Aunts house in Knoxville. She's sing on the radio, then she was a regular on the Cas Walker show. Her life is fascinating. Her series Heartstrings is on Netflix right now. My family gets Dollywood season tickets every year. Next year will be the 35th anniversary that the theme park opened. She will have a movie premiering on the Hallmark Channel on Dec. 8th at 9pm called Christmas At Dollywood, I guess you can say I'm a huge fan of her and Loretta Lynn.

I live in Gatlinburg, always have, and it’s so wild to hear it said over a big show like this. Something so small and local to me but she always remembers her roots and that’s very special. Dollywood is our very own little “Disney land” my family would go and get season pass every summer. Dolly’s great niece and I went to middle school together and Dolly came to pick her up for lunch one day in a limo and I just remember everyone having to stay in their seats and in the class and it was like we were on lockdown in our tiny little middle school. She’s in my 7th grade year book! Ah this woman is a treasure ❤️
