Dollar Tree Garden - Lets See What's Inside!

Welcome Gardeners. . .I just got off work and am heading to the Dollar Tree to see what fun stuff I can find for my garden. The Dollar Tree does have cheap prices for garden supplies but are they worth it? I will give you my honest opinion on what I like and what I don't like. Garden Happy is a small space garden located in California zone 9b I'm always gardening on a budget!

    The dollar tree does have cheap prices BUT are they worth it??? In my opinion (based on personal experience) some of their stuff is very good and definitely worth more than 1.25 HOWEVER. . . . some stuff is bad. hahaha 😆😆😆

    Yes when everything was just a $1 it was easier to justify buying- trying things but now with $1.25 I get pickier I haven't been going as often. Still love a lot of DT items because EVERY stores prices when up. I think they would get me to spend more if they went back to $1. haha🙂

    People laugh but I find a lot of useful garden/ greenhouse things at this store! First time watching your channel,subscribed. Life long gardener of fifty six years. Grew up in a large family so we had over an acre of garden. Every day every kid had a row to weed, I talked my way out of that by getting my father to let me run his Troy Built tiller after the others had weeded ( my hands were over my head to reach the handles) .

    @@GardenHappy thanks for responding! Gardening brings back a lot of good memories for me, we lived one town north of Troy New York, the Troy built test farm was on my bus route to school. I remember going to the factory store with my mom and dad when I was little. After I started working for the town my plow partner had worked for Troy Built and I was going to buy my own tiller and asked Sid which model to get,he advised me to get any one that had a Tecumseh engine as they had a small piston oil pump,which solved a lot of the problems of engine burning out from lack of oil due to tipping while working, Sid and I are still friends.

    As far as garden supplies the Dollar Tree sometimes has pretty good stuff - as long as you are selective - or - have an idea how to repurpose the item. Their seeds are the same as what the big box stores carry at a fraction of the price. I like quality tools for my garden so that is not something I'd ever buy at the Dollar store. I found Ross and Tuesday morning to have great deals, especially on clearance. Found $40 cutters in two sizes on clearance for $6.99 each. Last year they had metal garden gnome stakes at Dollar Tree that held up, no fading and super cute. Their Christmas fiberboard stakes however lasted all of a week in the Florida sun, oh well. Another thing from Dollar Tree that is great are their super sized S-hooks for hanging stuff in the garden. Those work well and are good quality, their twine however was the poorest quality I've ever seen. Shrug, it is what it is.

  • @GardenHappy

    @GardenHappy

    Good morning Rosehill I totally agree with you about being selective. Just knowing what is a good price and what is garbage is the key. I guess sometimes we have to kiss a few toads before we find our prince right? Hahaha you are a very educated shopper. That is so awesome. I keep hearing about discount plants at Lowe’s but I have not been able to find any at my local Lowe’s. You could probably start your own KZread channel for thrifty shopping! 👍👍👍 I hope you enjoy your weekend and thank you for stopping by🌸🥰❤️Liz

    I always have great luck with the seeds from Dollar Tree - and you cant beat 4/$1 or $1.25 for larger packets and mixed seeds. And I love the good-sized planters that appear every year in pretty much different shades of the same colors. They may fade a bit, but otherwise hold up well. If you have access to 99 Cents Only stores, they get bulbs every year and have had them recently.

I have some shade wildflower mix on my porch I just started and a few of the other wildflower mixes in my fridge to stratify because I was today years old when I found out most of those flowers NEED it to grow. Something not on the boxes and bags! I might need to buy more shade flower seeds because I didn't know it 3 days ago. 😅 I also have seeds from all over I am starting to compare germination rates and the plants vs each other in general. I hatched some chicks as well if y'all want to come check it out! I am adding either a pepper or tomato variety into a container for every sub I get. I will draw from it once a month and grow whatever I pull. I will seed save from whatever I grow and plan on seed giveaways in time! ❤❤

    My dollar tree sells the cloches so I am getting some since my rhubarb is already up and I live in Wisconsin. I have had great luck with the seed. I did a comparison in my garden alternating rows of wax beans using dollar trees seeds, MIgardner seeds, and Burpee. Dollar seeds did have less seeds in the packs. I needed two packs of dollar tree to match the burpee seed pack but it is comparing seeds at .25 each to $2..99 each. Germination and production were almost equal, I could not tell a difference. I did not like the potting soil from dollar tree at all.

    Hey there Backpacker2417. . . What a wonderful and informative comment. I have never tried the potting soil so that is good to know. I love that you dd a seed comparison. . . that would be a great idea for a new video. Question for you about the cloches??? They seem to be very light weight. . . do they blow away with the wind? I mean how do you keep them secure in place? Liz

    @@GardenHappy They are lightweight but the do have a lip on them that goes all the around which has have 3 holes. Those gloves will Crumble if left in sun, pass. The labels are more expensive than buying bulk on Amazon. Potting soil way too much too. Get 10x at Wally. My mom loves those humming bird feeders. It's about location and how much sugar in water 💧 Fairy garden looks fun. I have the solar lights 3 years now they are good. Don't leave any plastic outside it will break by end of season. 😢 those stones break after 2 seasons. It's concrete and absorb water. Seeds are wonderful here I buy all flowers and basics here. Yes they sprout ❤ cheapest place for seeds! If you're a 1st time Gardner you can start a garden here for $20. So if cost is issue then yes start here. Better thaN nothing. ❤ great ideas. 👍

    I think I should’ve been more clear when I said that. Sorry I was being sarcastic. I wear my gloves for a very, very long time. After they get holes in them and no longer protect my fingers, I throw them away instead of patching up the holes. Because they are so cheap. I have about seven pairs I rotate. Sorry for the confusion. I don’t just wear them once and throw them away. Liz
