Doji Candlestick Pattern
A Doji is a small-bodied Japanese candlestick pattern that occurs when the market opens and closes at the same (or nearly the same) price level.
Doji candlestick looks like a cross or a plus sign. This kind of Doji is also called Star Doji.
So what actually happens in the market so a Doji is formed?
One scenario is that after the open:
- bulls pushed price higher
- but it was rejected and pushed lower by the bears
- however, bears were unable to keep price lower,
- and bulls then push price back to the opening price.
The second scenario is the opposite:
- bears pushed price lower,
- but it was rejected and pushed upper by the bulls.
- however, bulls were unable to keep price high,
- and bears then push it back to the opening price.
The result of both scenarios is the same: the open and close price are at the same level - and that is how a Doji candlestick is formed.
As we’ve already said, besides the classical Doji, there are some other variations of it with longer upper, lower or both wicks.
