No one except you calls it a "consolidation candle". Most call it an "indecision candle".

It is called a consolidation candle because if you take an inside bar on the hourly time frame, it represents a consolidation phase in the 15 minutes time frame.

you can trade the inside bar on a 5 minute. the stop loss would be the high or low of that candle. you can't wipe out your account by following that rule. So i disagree that if you try this on the 5 minute you will get burned. This has been my trading strategy and I win more than I lose and when i lose, it's very little. easy money

Hey, so I'm all about getting into a trade with minimal risk, there's some overlapping value investing fundamentals that summarize the philosophy perfectly. That would be: Investment vs speculation. "An investment operation, is one which, upon throughout analysis, promises safety of principle and an adequate return. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative" ~ Benjamin Graham | The Intelligent Investor One great way to discern promising trades and 'speculative' trades is chart patterns and technical analysis. I can understand the need for a stop loss and a "confirmation first" entry point, but why should I set a specific target point. I guess what I'm asking is, what is the science of these points. *Why* set a stop loss here instead of here. *Why* set a take profit at x point instead of y point. Thanks again for these thought provoking videos!
