They were in the U.K. but they got dropped. This is what Michael wrote on the Facebook fan group.......Unfortunately Chateau de la Basmaignee will no longer feature in the upcoming new series of Escape to the Chateau DIY. We filmed for 7 months last year and worked very hard to bring you our progress since series one, but Kindling media and Channel 4 have since decide not to use any of the footage, stating that we weren't interesting enough and didn't want to lower the tone of the programme. It's very disappointing for us, but when one door closes, another opens... And we have a lot of doors at the chateau.

That castle was probably bought for not less than 800.000 euros. Probably more. Then invest at least another million in the restoration. But it is cool that they decided to invest the money instead of just living a lazy life. good for them. To be honest, I don't know where that building is, but I'm sure it is much more expensive than I said.

I am mesmerised and support you so much! My boyfriend and I bought a small old village school in Silesia, southern Poland and have been slowly restoring it as our place on earth for six years now. The building is by no means as grand as your estate, but we found out in the local archives that it was constructed in 1838 and successfully survived both world wars :) We make our own furniture, cultivate a small orchard and a vegetable garden, keep bees and plan to plant a vineyard next year. Wishing you all the best!

We don't know yet - there might be drama...

from a French person, thank you very much for taking the initiative of renovating this Château. Many are in bad state but cost too much and require a lot of investment. I know that for few of them, locals gather their effort in order to keep the Château from falling into ruins but it's not easy. By the way, do you know to whom this château belonged to in the past? because the bees that you can see on the fireplace are the symbols of rulers/sovereign/kings (Napoleon used it as an ornament too)

Jesus is King I don’t love god, you can’t love something you don’t believe to exists. I think that long long ago something started the universe that no longer exists, but according to the Bible god created everything on this earth (which isn’t scientifically correct). It also says he has a plan for everyone and that everyone is created by him, I don’t believe in this because I think it’s up to you. There is no plan unless you yourself create it. I don’t believe in heaven, purgatory, or hell, I think after you die you’re just gone. There are also many other reasons like of which putting your life and beliefs into one book and a bunch of people who believe(d) in it. I respect your beliefs and think they are valid and you can believe in them, but I also ask you to respect mine and others by not going around preaching it in completely unrelated comment sections.

This is so well done. I thought it was an official BBC production, like the On the Farm series with Ruth Goodman. Very calming, entertaining, engaging, and informing. I live in a tiny cottage on half a rural acre, but this inspires my own DIY!

Finally! I’ve been digging for years trying to find somebody recording their progress on restoring an old Château, they have such an awesome history and sadly there isn’t enough people willing to invest into restoring those masterpieces coming from a french family it means the world to me when I see people like you restoring pieces of our history, they are such an important part of the french history. The first stained glass window is of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. She is credited with starting the very popular Catholic Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Note Jesus showing her his heart in the image.

Hey Michael, love your videos! A good money making tip here... Sell your recipes, if you take a pic of something that you've made, type up the recipe and laminate them like a leaflet, you could sell them to the public online! You'll be surprised how many you'll sell and don't forget, individual recipes would bring in more than a book and cheaper to create! and if you video each recipe while you're making them, it will encourage others how to cook, as many folk have forgotten since the super markets opened up, but are now wanting to learn again! :0). Unfortunately, things like learning to bake has now all but gone from schooling etc and parents don't know how to teach their children because they never learnt themselves! :0) The days of doing it all yourself is back FINALLY, and folk are eager to learn once more for many reasons, health, well being and to be self sufficient once more!

That little chapel is the most darling thing.

I’m obsessed with old buildings and seeing them restored, especially buildings that definitely saw their prime in the 1800s. Ugh love it. So glad this was recommended

I really recommend a glazing of acrylic or safety glass on the stained glass to protect them!! They're priceless and irreplaceable

More important is to make sure the putty and lead came are in good condition. Protective glazing won’t do anything for the glass if the structure of the window is unstable.

They’re not so expensive to buy, but they are *very* expensive to maintain and restore. This is located in North West France which should be a reasonably cheaper area to buy in (the most expensive are in the south and Val de Loire). Honestly I’d be surprised if this cost more than €1M since it’s in such a bad state and the estate isn’t huge.

Not only would one require necessary funds to purchase and maintain the property, while paying the usual utility fees, gas, cars and repairs, registration, fuel, and other expenses for a family. Most people struggle 5 days, 8 hours a day to buy one house over 30 years.

Sketchy Animations Yes I know that, but consider that a comfortable roomy flat in the city costs as much if not more than a chateau in the French countryside. A two bedroom apartment in my city in a good location costs €800,000 already, it just shows you how fucked urban housing is. Most people assume that these chateaux must be very expensive, in the tens of millions, but they’re basically the cost of a tiny inner city flat in Paris, London, NY, HK, Tokyo, Sydney, etc.

Ps, love gardening myself. Tip: Herbs need maintenance. Rosemary needs to be pruned to about half a foot each year. If you don't, you get a massive shrub of which only the end is usable. But prune after there's no more frost on the ground. Then you get love fresh branches.

A lot of people neglect lavender bushes too and you end up with long sticks with one or two flowers rather than amazing bushes covered in bees.

@@JoyandSerenity. that's the same as rosemary. You're absolutely right. All those kind of herbs are the same. Thyme as well. You have to prune them in early spring

This is literally my dream. I'm currently working on restoring my barn. There's a certain sense of spiritual fulfillment when restoring something old to its former self. It's like you're breathing life back into it, and giving part of your soul to the place. I can't wait for the next videos

Yup same here it randomly popped up! He is adorable, the narrative and footage makes me feel like I'm there I can almost smell the air! Loved his reflection on what to say when you're recording yourself, I've often wondered the same!

Re: Bee motif in fireplace. Am sure you probably know, but in case you dont, that bee motif was the personal emblem of Napoleon, so probably safe to assume that if the fireplace is original to the chateau, then one of the previous owners was a staunch supporter of Bonaparte.

You can buy one castle/ historical building in Ukraine. There are many of these and they are comparatively cheap

You may also like to watch The Chateau Diaries on YT then. Michael references it and his friend Stephanie, the owner. She and her chateau also feature on Channel 4's Escape to the Chateau DIY (on the telly) along with other Brit owners of once derelict French chateaus. The programme is a spin off from Escape to the Chateau which centres around the Strawbridge family and the renovation of their chateau. The Strawbridges narrate the DIY series too and also occassionally help out new owners. 😄

Got one minute into the video and immediately subscribed.

When it takes longer to find the hoover than it does for me to hoover my whole house

I feel somewhat sad that here in the United States, we don't have such old, historical, and beautiful buildings. Sure, we have some old houses, buildings, and such that are scattered across the nation, but nothing as grand or large that has such a magical and spiritual element to it, like Europe has. The U.S.'s history was not very "wealthy" per se till the Industrial period, so buildings weren't too extravagant before then. I hope to one day travel all across Europe just to see all the beautiful as well as interesting history it has to offer.

I'm thoroughly convinced that all manors, chateaus, and castles have ghosts.... it's baked into the bill of sale I'm sure. I just hope the ones in this chateau are friendly 🙇🏽‍♀️

They are often bought for less than an average house in the UK. Most people that buy them have to renovate and then use them for a B & B and wedding venue to then be able to continue renovating and cover running costs.

Make sure to pray and change your dier ,which im certainly sure you're already doing . Having fruits and vegetables on the front ,parsley ,celery ,chamomille ( they contain apigenin )which helps restore cells bc they bind to a specific protiein . Celery juice is a big one and try to follow the Mediterranean diet there are many studies that this diet reduces the risk of getting cancer but when you have it its possible the slow down the process. Quit sugar and grains ,vitamin E is also very important . Also eat more seashells , crabs ,fish .. they have taurin (amino acid) very important.

Wait, they got that massive carpet that's a copy of a famous one at the V&A for _300€_ ??? My French ass is floored, that's super cheap. I even had to do a double take to rechecked the price and see if it wasn't 3000€. What an amazing bargain. Edit: the style of your tea set has a rather Asian-inspired design, might be a set from the late 19th century, Japan was very trendy at that time, and it was common to have Japanese and Japanese-inspired objects at home when one could afford it. This blue and white design is really telling. Edit 2: Oh you're not far from Laval? This is a quiet but quaint little city! I went there once only but the area was really pleasant.

I would say the tea set is more Chinese inspired. Japanese pottery followed the Chinese style until the 16th century, when the heavier and more rustic style of pottery became the fashion. So definitely by the 19th century, that style of tea set wouldn’t be considered Japanese. It’s a very lovely set, nevertheless☺️
