I was blessed to see them in Chicago in 1982(thanks, Dad RIP) Any other concert I've seen has paled by comparison. The second Freddie took the stage, nothing else in the world seemed to matter. With most bands, there wasn't that one member who just stood out. Nobody owned the stage the way Mercury did. He connected with us, as if each of us were the only person there.

By 1971, with all four musicians together, Freddie now changed the bands name to Queen. By 1973, when they still were fighting to "break out" and become famous-they were all almost ready to quit. They weren't making any $$, and were still struggling, with managers and promo guys ripping them off. But Freddie was more aggressive than ever, and started writing song after song, until finally Seven Seas of Rhye, hit the UK charts. Queen was becoming a household name. Deacon, was the last of 4 bass players that had come and gone, and after that- everyone was set in place. Freddie on vocals /piano, Brian May on lead guitar, and Roger Meddows Taylor on drums. I'd say thats a reason to Smile. #TOTP

Freddie makes this ballad more slick. He sang this song better than the Staffel Team. The ballad and the feel of a typical Queen orchestra were felt in this song. The touch of Brian's distinctive rock guitar melody was felt in the solos, like the sound of a fast moving train after finding momentum. Freddie makes it look like this song is his creation and his. There is no denying that Freddie is one of the most talented singers of the 20th century.

Queen II also had some heavy tracks, and it was more progressive/fantasy oriented. The one album they made that I think sums up their versatility almost more than a night at the Opera is sheer heart attack. it gives you a sign of things to come and still holds on to their heavy rockside with songs like Brighton rock and stone cold crazy

I can't even begin to describe what it was like having lived through the late sixties, the seventies, and eighties too. my first concert was Jim Morrison and the doors, and i went to concerts frequently. I cannot think of any artist that i haven't seen live, and though seeing Jimmy Page live many times was hypnotizing, i'll not steal Freddie's thunder and just say that Queen was phenomenal. In hindsight, he was definitely a force like no other. I know many front men who would perform under the influence, or with a voice fatigued, but Freddie was always perfection. If you get that time machine...take the leap! I sure think it was worth all the great times and wonderful memories...

They are simply too amazing, and the time is NOW. The movie was number one, still second place right now. They have two CDs in the top 20, and another somewhere around number 45. Bohemian Rhapsody just entered the charts at 23... Billboard has them as the most popular artist right now. Fans want everything we can get our ears on.

My favorite part is that the song starts out sounding like an oldie. Then Brian May happens.

I haven't heard this song in a long time. I had forgotten how good it is. It proofs that Queen doesn't always have to be hard rock to be good.

Oh, yeah, that 70s "mellow" opening you'd easily get this confused for a song by a group like Bread or America, if you only heard that part!

I didn't know Brian May was a talented song writer and wrote some songs for Freddie Mercury. Not only is he an all round clever clogs and brilliant guitar player he's also a song writer.
