    This is my absolute FAVORITE werewolf movie . I love that it uses costumes and not CGI.. I love that it doesn’t even attempt a dramatic transformation scene. Neil Marshall understood that nothing will ever compare to “AWIL”, so why try. I love how fun it is . This is my go to.

    This movie is legend. Always recommended to watch if you haven't already. It's the only movie that include a fistfight scene between a soldier and a werewolf XD Another unique werewolf movie is Bad Moon. What makes it great is that the protagonist is a dog that tries to save his human from a werewolf :)

    This is arguably one of the top five werewolf movies ever made! And I literally had a chance to meet Sean Pertwee at a comicon a few years ago and we talked about Gotham of course but what I really wanted to talk about was dog soldiers! He told me how much fun it was to make this movie as well as how it was received! This movie right here is easily one of the best ever made! And I have seen them all especially me being 47, there isn’t a werewolf movie I feel I haven’t seen! I am glad you guys got to enjoy this masterpiece of a movie! Wish it was a part two lol but then again this one was so great another one would probably mess it up!

    @@PizernBReact It was a really good time talking to him! The thing that impressed me the most about when I got a chance to talk to him was he was about to go on lunch. Like literally his camp was like let’s go we going to go to lunch and he told them “…lunch can wait, I’m talking to my mate here. Give me a bit!” I will never forget that! Because he could’ve just took the picture signed it and sent me on my way but he talk to me about event horizon, he talk to me about Gotham and then we really spent a good amount of time talking about dog soldiers, and that’s when they were about to go to lunch. From the time he told them to give him a few until we finish talking it was about 15 minutes give or take a minute. That right there besides him being a wonderful actor, but he’s a wonderful human being and it was funny because in talking to him I kept calling her Sergeant Wells LOL and he seem to get a kick out of that and then he sign my as picture Sergeant Wells! You guys are awesome and I love what you do! I would recommend if you have not seen or reviewed I would do another classic: 1) An American Werewolf In London 2) The Howling 3) Silver Bullet

    The filmmakers said "This isn't a werewolf movie with soldiers. This is soldier movie with werewolves." That's why it's shot more like a military action movie rather than a horror movie. The movie is full of homages including the mention of the Kobayashi-maru Test when they find the remnants of Ryan's outpost as an homage Star Trek 2 (1982), the jumpscare when Ryan suddenly pops out as an homage to the terrified General Owen popping out of the locker in Starship Troopers (1997), Sgt Wells telling Ryan "Shut up like a good gentleman. You are scaring my lads" as an homage to Zulu (1964), Spoon saying "Come on you beauties" to the werewolves as an homage to The Wild Geese (1978), the way Spoon hits a werewolf than yells and strikes a dramatic pose as an homage to Bruce Lee, Sgt. Wells holding up the gore soaked watch he lent to Spoon and saying "There is no Spoon" as an homage to The Matrix (1999), Sgt. Wells name being Harry G. Wells as an Homage to H.G. Wells, one of the soldiers being named Bruce Campbell as a homage to The Evil Dead (1981) and Bruce Campbell. There are many more.

  • @PizernBReact

    @PizernBReact

    Wow when you lay it all out like that you can really see the effort put in to subtlety of those homages. This movie also kind of gives off Aliens vibes with the military aspect and the whole final stand at the house

    Kevin McKidd actually hurt himself on the first filming day with the jumping off from the helicopter due to a metal plate in his uniform basically breaking a rib. He didn't want to be sent to a hospital, so he kept quiet about it during the shoot for a few weeks before he told the director and went to the hospital.

    This is definitely one of my favourite werewolf film and, IMO, Neil Marshall's best (though The Descent is also great, and Centurion and Doomsday are worth a watch)., Another more obscure one would be Late Phases (also known as Night of the Lone Wolf), and recent Werewolf movie you might like (though it's more of a comedy) is Werewolves Within. For Halloween, other suggestions of non-blockbuster film films: The Autopsie of Jane Doe, Dead Snow (it's Norwegian, so you need subtitles), Let Us Prey, Pontypool, Ravenous, the REC series (in Spanish), Slither (from James Gunn), Splinter, and the Trick 'r Treat anthology. Good luck with your channel!

    I remember when 2nd Underworld movie was having a premiere and the local theatre made an all-nighter: 1st & 2nd Underworld and then Dog Soldiers to fill in the slot. And pretty much everyone there was just for the Dog Soldiers, not giving a single damn about Underworld or the fact it's a premiere event for a new movie. To the point it actually got more crowded during the break before Dog Soldiers was scheduled to play, with the audience going from like 2/3 to almost full house, despite it being 2 AM in a snowy winter. How's big screen for this? Dope. It's no IMAX experience, but it genuinely works better on bigger screen.

    This is a "horror" movie where the Protagonists don't do anything stupid. They may do things wrong but not stupid. That is what makes it work so well. Everything they do is something a rational (as rational as you could be in the situation) person would do. They try to conserve resources. They try to plan as best they can. The characters never do what viewer is telling them Not to do. They act like soldiers.

The dog soldiers were ryan and wells after they were slashed open and infected by the weirwolves.

    Love this movie , heard really good things about it and saw it in the cinema - what a ride ! It blends Alien , Predator , Jaws and any Zombie movie where people are trapped in a house but does not feel at all like it's ripping any of these films off . All the cast are great especially Liam Cunningham ( Ser Davos from Game of Thrones ) who plays a very despicable baddie that you really love to hate from the start with the shoot the dog scene you know he is a real shit . All the other characters are very well defined , the acting is very good especially Sean Pertwee during the camp fire sequence very chilling . The Soldiers are not just your usual clichéd horror movie cannon Fodder you actually care when they die the script is hilarious to with the squaddies banter and camaraderie and according to an Army pal of mine that is pretty much squaddie humour . The effects are very well done as they were not a big budget film there is no spectacular transformation like in American Werewolf or the Howling but they more than make up for that . I saw in the behind the scenes that they used Male ballet dancers to play the Werewolves as they would be able to move their bodies in more unusual ways ,to get the height they put them on stilts to make the Werewolves more menacing . The directing by Neil Marshall is fantastic paced so well and very tense , The sound design is great too with machine gun noise and the Werewolves screeches when they get shot is incredibly effective . The score by Mark Thomas is great too and incredibly effective in the action scenes and incredibly moving in Sarges last stand scene . Director Neil Marshall went on to direct another fave of mine Descent which is a kind of similar story but without the humour and is more of a straight up Horror than a Horror , Comedy with fantastic claustrophobic , tense , scary jump scare scenes , Neil also directed some very battle heavy episodes of Game of Thrones like Blackwater and Watchers on the wall . I would say this is probably my fave Werewolf movie followed by American Werewolf and then the Howling -great job Neil 😀👍

    You all need to watch The Howling. It’s better than American Werewolf, which I love. Came out the same year and has an awesome cast. The Benicio del Toro werewolf film you’re wondering about is the remake of the classic Wolf Man. It’s called The Wolfman. Has Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving. It was plagued by a director switch and massive rewrites but is a solid film.
