DOG HAVING SEIZURES

Dogs can still hear and understand you while they are having a seizure, and it is good to talk to them and provide comfort while it’s happening. Edit: There are different types of dog seizures and not all are unconscious during the episode. While the brain is misfiring motor function, it does not always impair sensory perception. In fact, it has been shown in studies that comforting your dog during seizures can decrease the length they occur. This information was confirmed by my vet. 🙂

No they can't. Best to stay quiet and calm and dont touch them. Taking and touching will stimulate their nerves and can make the seizure longer. Even after it's over they are often confused and may bite if you pet them. Get a blanket for a pillow and one for any bowel movements it's all you can do.

In this situation, relax and wait it out. Seizure, though uncommon can randomly afflict your little fury friends. Don't restrain them, or move them. It will usually last about 30 seconds. Once they've self-stabilized, you can clean them up and take them to your nearest vet. These things happen. It's actually good he caught this in film. This is good teaching tape for fellow animal lovers. 👍

Gently petting, while ensuring he doesn’t hit his head and comforting him in a soothing voice is the best way to handle a canine seizure. While it’s scary and at lot of people want to panic or freak out, it’s not helpful to the animal.

Please people if this happens to your dog don’t grab the collar I know he was just scared and not sure what to do but gently hold their head to make sure it’s not smacking the ground and then just do your best to sooth the dog or whatever animal it may be while actively calling the vet or driving to an emergency vet. Our dogs deserve the world so please just take the time to know what to do in situations like these, they love you so much, show them that same love.

You NEVER hold back an epileptic because there is a risk of causing damage. Even less is there a need to caress him because he is not conscious, so he doesn't feel anything. The only thing is to put something soft under your head and as soon as the crisis ends, run to the vet.

In mid-December, i believe she had a stroke. Her head tilted, she couldn't walk on her own anymore. Then she passed on December 31st, at 15. The seizures are always so hard to deal with. You never get used to them. I'm just happy she can finally rest. Rest in Peace, baby girl. 11/8/07 - 12/31/22.

I would place a rolled up towel just enough in his mouth where he wouldn’t bite his tongue. He would potty all over himself and after I’d get him clean, he’d be having another seizure. The first time we reacted the same way, but now we know he reacts better afterwards if we just pet him through it, tell him he is a good boy, and try to sound normal and calm. Yeah, I had one that would just have them back to back to back and so on. He would walk into the room and just start looking at his tail, eyes really large, and gradually just start curling into a C shape until he started convulsing, falling over in the process. When he would begin to come out of it, he was temporarily blind on disoriented, and he would just take off running. He almost broke the glass door to the back yard once he hit so hard, so I had to be there ready to hold him once he came to so he wouldn't take off running. It was a tough time.

If it repeats again, just be calm and track time (if it’s less than 5 minutes, it’s still not critical). And please remember not to hug or kiss him/her right after the seizure. They are being still unconscious and may hurt you (me and my brother got bit from my Labrador). And pls pls plssss never leave him because of that. He/she is no different from other dogs ❤

I used to have a dog with seizures. Screaming "Hey" at them like that isn't helpful. I would scoop mine up gently and hold them close tip it passed. He would also lick a wet wash rag. Sometimes if I let him go too soon he would start convulsing again. Gentle voice. No extra sounds or movement. No food. Or stimulation. He had meds but hated them and always found ways to avoid them plus they were hard on his liver and wouldn't take the meds for those either. Cutting out pork, glutten and soy products helped tremendously. He lived to be 17.5 R.I.P Peanut 🐩

He doesn’t ever really need it though. It used to be very scary but we are used to it now. He doesn’t seem to care either. @@ConspirHerSee so for her it’s not like epilepsy with like flashing lights or anything like that. She can cause herself a seizure is she over works herself, especially now she has a heart murmur, or if she gets bumped in the head. I have a 2year old son and he hit her in the head with an object one day and it instantly caused her a seizure but overall She thankfully doesn’t have them all that often. Usually once every couple months but slightly more often when it’s hot. She had 3 in one week once and I was very afraid we’d lose her but that was probably a year ago. She was shortly after diagnosed with the very early stages of a heart murmur. We recently took her to the vet for dental surgery so they did blood tests and surprisingly she is perfectly healthy for her age.

An exes dog used to have absent seizures. She knew most of the time when they were starting and she'd crawl to the person that gave her the most comfort before they'd begin. We'd just scoop her up and give her cuddles and pets and tell her everything was going to be okay. Terrifying experience especially if you don't know why your friend is just... Shaking like they're going to collapse or díé. Most can hear and feel you even if they're not fully present, take a deep breathe while jumping into action and try your best to remain calm, stress can trigger and/or aggravate seizures. Get that pup to a vet too if possible, hopefully there are affordable medication options to help reduce or prevent the seizures. Sending love your way
