meh I'd be more worried about an Anatolian Shepherd, more bite force, heavier, extra skin that is also thicker along with a thicker coat for more protection, more muscle mass than a German Shepherd could achieve for sure plus fewer health issues due to inbreeding by the Germans. German Shepherds are formidable when compared to a lab, but the Malinois in the last one is a LOT scarier leaner muscle, faster, relatively the same bite force, while also having the benefit of modern breeding for the military/police dog benefits so inbreeding is not as much of an issue since there is a large network of breeders working with the U.S. Government alone.

Also, just wanna share a heartbreaking story a family friend told us when he gifted us our GSD. He said there was this childless old couple that asked to adopt a german shepherd from him, and he gifted them one. The good boi was so pampered and well taken cared of, they named him Buddy. Until one night a robber went into the old couple's house. Long story short, Buddy bit the robber on the shoulder near the neck, in exchange he was stabbed many times but the sad part that made us cry was no matter how many stabs he got, he never let go of the robber and still gripped him with his mouth. The robber was lying on his own blood when the police arrived but Buddy's already dead. The couple was so heartbroken. Buddy did his job and did it with love. Run free wherever you are, Buddy.

I volunteered at an animal sanctuary and there were two German Shepherd brothers called Ben and Riz. Ben was friendly with everyone but Riz was more reserved and also very protective over his brother. He even bit this woman in the act of protecting Ben, so he was moved into a separate kennel. They were still allowed to spend time together and one day, I was sat on the floor with Ben. Riz was then brought into the kennel with us and instead of being aggressive, he rubbed against me like a cat, then rolled over for belly rubs. It was like he accepted me as part of the pack and it was a very rewarding moment.

My dad always told this story about the all-black German shepherd that they had when he was a kid. The whole family went out to a matinee for a few hours, and when they got home the dog was in the front yard, standing on a man’s chest and growling with his muzzle just inches from the man’s face. Apparently dude admitted that he had broken into the house just a few minutes after the family left, and had spent that whole time getting stared down by the dog as it growled at him.

That GS made me giggle. I had a GS once, who was the biggest, friendliest goofball ever. He wasn't aggressive at all, but one he gave two of my friends biggest scare or their lives. Once they rode to my house on bikes, to invite me for a ride, and my dear Barry ran to welcome them - carrying his favorite toy. It was a brick. Yes, my dog loved to play with a full sized brick. I've seen them jumping over the fence like a pair of panicked kangaroos and almost died laughing. One of my pals summed up the accident well - "Man, you've told us you have a dog, but you didn't tell us he eats bricks!"

I've told this elsewhere, but seeing as how it's GSD Love Day... I grew up with German Shepherds. The whole extended family. The one we had was so large, I could almost ride her like a pony. She was the sweetest dog. She also had a way of comforting new people. She'd put her head in your lap and lean on you. But she was fiercely protective. She never slept at night. Ever. She would patrol the house, keeping an eye for trouble. One night I woke from a pretty bad nightmare. I opened my eyes to see an enormous furry face staring down at me, waiting to wash my face. She had heard me crying and come to check. She opened my bedroom door (totally closed, by the way) and stood near until I woke up. Then she hopped on the bed and curled up against me. I wrapped my arms around her and buried my face into her fur. She stayed until I calmed down and started to drift off again. But just before I passed out, I felt her gently stand up and hop off my bed. She returned to her night time patrol mission.

He'd come back to sleep for an hour or two, then get up and do it again. The only time I saw him get really scary was when my neighbor came over to offer us some of the turkey he had been butchering (farm life lol). The neighbor was still in his bloody coveralls, my dog growled at the neighbor and seemed to grow twice as big before he recognized the neighbor and calmed down
I also love the original German Shepherd one: *rushing towards him, taking off shirt* "Oh, so it's THAT kinda night, huh?!"
My mom raised and trained GS dogs. She taught them to protect the house and everything/everyone in it. They would be completely silent and sneak up on "suspects" just like you showed. Vicious if they needed to be but also so kind and gentle with those deemed friends. Best doggos ever.

When I was born, my mom had a German Shepherd. She brought me back home, put me in the nursery and let the dog smell me. I was told that from then on, nobody but family was allowed in that room without being accompanied by my mom and nobody could pick me up with the dog around. When I was 4 years old, we had a kiddie pool in the backyard. Some neighborhood kids would show up during the summer to play with us. My German Shepherd was always vigilant and when an older kid threw me into the pool, the dog would have attacked the kid if she wasn't on a leash. From that day on until the day she died, that kid could not show his face or she would go ballistic. German Shepherds are the best dogs.
My mom had a GS/Doberman mix. House got broke into one night while I was visiting. That dog backed me and my daughter into my mom's room and SNARLED like no tomorrow... pure doberman snarl. And then she launched herself at the guy and had him on his back with her teeth snapping at his throat before we even had time to register that she had moved. My mom casually wandered out there and called the cops while the dog was sitting on this guy's chest giving him the "Oh, no. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with ME." glare-snarl. I popped my head out there, calmly informed him that if he moved so much as to cough, those teeth would be IN his throat. And then I went to meet the cops outside. I told them where the jerk was, and then warned them... we have a dog. Dog is half Doberman and half German Shepherd. Guy's got wet pants already, but don't get near him until my mom's called her off. LOL. Those two cops got one look at her, waited until my mom had her off the guy and in hand and then told us that was one nasty combination for someone to run into in her territory. My mom just smiled and said... yep. I know. That's why I have her. I normally live alone. Cops laughed, cuffed the guy and told her 'good choice' on their way out the door. LOL. Kira was the most loving, gentle pupper with her family, but the minute you threatened or tried to hurt her family, she let that snarl out and she had the teeth to back it up. 😂

It's because of their wrinkled foreheads. I used to own one. I used to take her for walks on the sidewalk around the local lake. I let her investigate an area by the water, that had thick leaf & debris on top of the grass, & extended far out on top of the water. It all happened so quickly. She could not determine where the land stopped, & the water began, apparently, so she just trotted (Basenji's trot like horses), out into the water. I guess it all looked like land to her. She looked so distressed, & worried, & surprised, with those forehead wrinkles & her eyes, and was flailing to get back on land. I helped her of course. But she looked so funny, I couldn't help but laugh. I apologized to her of course. I'm not a complete jerk... She wasn't afraid of dogs twice her size, & was very friendly to most people. I only saw her hackles rise, & her growl at one person. A man who approached at the lake. I was surprised, because she was always so friendly, but grateful for her alert, because who knows what she might have sensed about him. It immediately told me I should be alert as well. Nothing happened. He made conversation about my dog, & asked to pet her, & when it became obvious she didn't trust him, he went on his way. I loved that girl. ❤️🔥

I've been waiting for your take on German Shepherd vs Robber. Was not disappointed. You've got the attitude right - they are security dogs first and foremost. But truthfully, a Robber wouldn't get in the door. The GSD would hear them coming, and let them know that they picked the wrong house before they opened the door.

We had a GSD named Santana. We got her from a family friend that we knew raised GSDs. We had her for 11 years. She always slept in the hallway leading to my high school-aged daughter's bedrooms. She did not like strange men at all. And she protected the girls and the top of the hill where we lived on my mom's farm. Her spine deteriorated to where she was paralyzed. We decided to have her euthanized since she would never walk again. That was in 2004. I've recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I hope to be joining her soon.

My dads friend would feed our German Shepherd when we were on holidays. He said the dog would escort him. She'd follow him to the food bin, follow him to her bowl, and then make sure he left. The shepherd fiercely protected anyone she saw as family. When I was little and out with my baby sitter, the shepherd once broke the leash to get between us and a stray that looked like it was going to go for us. Good girl Sasha, RIP
I stayed with my aunt and uncle in another country for a year when I was 13. They had a GS which had been trained as a police dog, but never 'graduated'. I was home alone after school once, and my uncle came home early. Apparently all he heard as he unlocked the door was a deep growl. Until the dog could actually see him and stopped growling. My uncle kept saying he'd never heard this dog make that noise before. Friendliest dog I ever met, miss him. RIP Herman

German shepherds are so versatile. For a long time my mum was a childminder, the kids would literally hang off our dogs and the dogs would absolutely baby them and cuddle up to them, they did the same with our cats. I couldn’t even imagine being scared of them until an argument broke out with a neighbour that ended with him swinging a metal bar at me. The fucking sound that my dog made was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever heard, one aggressive move aimed at me and suddenly those loveable teddy bears became these batshit mental creatures that I wouldn’t trust to keep a tiger safe. They did not kill him but for a moment I thought they were definitely going to. Fortunately they were only interested in hurting him whilst he was a threat so they stopped when the bloke backed down. Best dogs ever

My father would always tell me about a story about my parent's long gone German Shephard. Back when they lived in a more dangerous neighborhood than the one I grew up in. The dog, named Seven (idk why), was looking out the window, and my dad saw two kids standing outside the window staring right back at the dog. It was obvious they were trying to break in and steal, so my dad just sat back down and watched what happened. Apparently, Seven was so threatening to these two kids that they just ran away. Seven was always a good girl and was nice to every person she met, but this time, she did her duty!

my first German Shepherd had run away one morning with our black lab(it was a semi common occurrence, he always came back at nightfall) so we left the garage door slightly open since it was summer in the South. little did we know that some robbers had been casing the neighborhood and saw an opportunity. I came back after school to blood all over the front porch and into our garage. we (my mom and I) soon found him with a bullet wound in his leg, but nothing was taken. he went on to live till he was 15/16 (he was a stray when we got him so exact age is iffy). now I have a second German Shepherd, and he's the definition of all bark, no bite. he will bark THE most intimidating bark you have ever heard, but from a distance. he keeps a five foot distance from my 5'2 grandmother who has been over multiple times. still love the idiot though

I have a Newfie and a Great Pyr. One guards the home against all threats real or imagined regardless of distance 👊. The other leaves deadly trails of smiley drool on every surface. You should have a Great Pyrenees in one of these. Being ever vigilant he would identify the robber while he was a speck on the horizon and begin barking. The owners having been conditioned to it would completely ignore him (maybe even sleep through it, it’s like living near train tracks) because they’d probably assume he sees a particularly scary cloud, blowing leaf, or really anything that moved or maybe moved or maybe one day could move.
I have a half German shepherd half golden retriever. Fantastic with people, is very patient with anyone. Babies? Persistent puppies or males? Fantastic. It took a week of a dog we were pet sitting humping her(or trying to, he was a really tiny dog and ours is, safe to say, not his size) for her to turn around and snap at him. She’s never bit, barked, or snarled at anyone unless you were rough housing with her or playing with her toys. Very good dog. Terrified of thunder and water bottles. Dunno why. We adopted her as a new puppy. Anyway, a very big sweetheart, but she’s attempted numerous times to attack bucks out back(she never made it close enough as they always ran). Chased a couple of bobcats into a pine tree once. She got up on her back legs and barked up the tree, and the more she did, the higher they want. Had to coax her away with a treat that time, so even if robbers might be an issue(she has barked at us if she thinks we’re hurting each other-tickling, jumpscares, ect), might not, at least I know if there’s an animal making a grab for dinner, it’ll turn into “call an ambulance, call an ambulance! But not for me”
Lol, the Lab is so accurate, although I thought he was going to say "you can't have any of my pizza"

My friend had a GS trained as a guard dog...and he was all too keen to be one. They were avid hunters and had a trophy room for all their kills. Their GS even had a ten point, eight point, and four point buck on the wall. If you were coming over, you had to announce it so that they could recall the GS back into the garage if he was outside. I was over so much that he finally got socialized, and was the nicest guy...built on 95 pounds of solid muscle teeth and claws.
I had a black German Shepard growing up. She saved us from a snake. She kept hysterically barking looking under wooden bench sitting in our veranda. We then noticed there was a snake laying in the dark frozen in place due to her barking, literally was a few feet away from our living room door. She was so sweet with us kids. We lost her at young age of 3 in a car accident. I remember crying for days when that happened. I still remember her Even decades later.

I was mowing the lawn recently and found a snake - 75 cm long. My German Shepherds had found it first though - it was already dead with tooth marks in the middle and near its head. My dogs are both fine.
I have a Border Collie who nearly lost his eye taking on there pitbulls to protect my little sister. He is the best dog ever and his name is Freckles and he is so sweet. I always thought it would be one of our larger dogs who would protect us.
