    I was between the 18 Q5 and the 18 Tucson. The fit and finish, the driveability, warranty and $20,000 difference I went with the 18 Tucson. 3 years later I am still very pleased with the Tucson. No rattles, no shakes and when closing the doors still sounds new. Happy with my choice. Has been very reliable. Nothing but regular maintenance so far has been done.

    Same. I have a 2016 Tucson Limited and it's still running great. The only issue has been failing doorlocks, but Hyundai replaced these for free. Still annoying, but all cars have some weakness. I'd rather replace the doorlocks than an engine.

    My wife bought a new American Spec 2016 Tucson SE with the 2 L gas engine and 6 speed auto transmission. She and I both love it. Fit, finish and comfort are very good for the price. The car handles well, is comfortable, and it shifts nicely too. In the 31K miles we have had it, the only maintenance so far is regular oil changes, tires (see below), a couple of factory recalls (which her car wasn't having problems with), and front and rear brakes. (My wife is a hard "braker"). It could use another 20 hp. We weren't willing to pay over $3,000 US. for the 1.6L to get ONLY 11 more hp at high rpm only I'm glad we didn't get the 1.6L turbo as it only came with a DCT transmission which just doesn't feel right and is unacceptable to us. One other gripe is the substandard factory Hankook Kinergy GT tires that came on her car. They exhibited poor traction in general, (Wet, dry, and especially snow) and very poor tread life. I recommend upgrading to a better tire for those reasons. You will needing them soon. We did after they were almost bald by 27Kmiles. Overall rating of the vehicle on a 10 scale would be a 7.5.

    You nailed the overview. I own the 2016 and love it as a daily driver. My wife drives a Mazda CX5, but we both prefer to take the 2016 Tucson around town (although the CX5 is much more comfortable long distances). As you mentioned, the steering and suspension are more sporty and refined than most other CUVs in the same class. Our Mazda CX5 has way too much body roll, slop in the steering, and the brakes feel soft and unresponsive. The Tucson is the opposite, but it does not absorb the speed bumps quite as nicely as the CX5. For anyone considering buying a used Tucson vs CX5, if you like a sportier feel, go with the Tucson. If you like a more posh interior with softer suspension, go with the CX5. Mazda charges $850 to get Apple Carplay installed vs Hyundai charges nothing because the hooks were already in firmware. The door lock latch issue is much worse than you may think, at least here in the USA. Hyundai was refusing to repair for free until the National Highway Safety Administration threatened Hyundai to either repair for free or go through with issuing an official recall because so many people filed reports with the NHSA. I personally had three of the four fail; all replaced for free by Hyundai... but what a pain. I'm just hoping the last of the four latch mechanisms fails before the warranty expires! No other issues whatsoever though over the past 6 years. Other than that, I love my Tucson. I do have the Turbo Unlimited, so it is plenty quick for around Southern California roads and we LOVE the ventilated seats that provide much needed cold air during the hot summer months and then heat during the cold months. Great job on the overview! I also have a friend who completely turned up his nose to my suggesting he consider a Tucson instead of a BMW X3. His 2016 X3 has been in the shop a lot! Egos are expensive to maintain! Cheers.

    @@jamescalleja82912018 CX-5. It is not a Grand Touring. It is still running good, as is the 2016 Tucson Limited. I was surprised to have to replace some expensive belts on the Mazda at 40,000 miles. I will update this comment with the details when I get home.

  • @espedale

    @espedale

    @@jamescalleja8291 2018 CX-5 (not Grand Touring). Both Tucson and CX-5 are running very well. The Tucson has a weird failure with door locks as they have all failed and been replaced for free. The CX-5 had the drive belts and tensioner replaced at 42,000 miles ($750 here in USA). I was very disappointed to have that fail at such a low mileage. The dealership advisor said that is typical, but every other place I've checked says these should last at LEAST 60,000 miles up to 100,000 miles. I believe the dealership was slow and just needed the money. Anyway, overall both vehicles are doing well. If you like upholstery and driving comfort with more ground clearance and can do without Apple Carplay, go with the CX-5. If you like a sportier vehicle with lower clearance, Carplay, ventilated seats, and more horsepower, go with Tucson. My wife (CX-5) and I raced off the line and the Tucson easily beat the CX-5, not that either of them are high performance vehicles, lol. They are very similar on gas mileage with the CX-5 slightly better (explaining the lower acceleration performance).

    I bought a 2018 Tuscon Sport AWD in 2020 with 19k miles (U.S.). Have had it just over 2 years and love it! I would recommend replacing the battery in the automatic key opener before it's 4 years old. Mine died and shut down and locked the car. Had to call road service to open. Would recommend this vehicle. Good purchase for me!

    I own an American Tucson and the only trouble I've has is the window regulators. All 4 of mine have gone bad, and it's not an easy or cheap fix. I also had one hub go bad, but not the bearings, it was the tire pressure sensor. I just moved across the country from New Orleans to California and it performed without a hiccup or whimper.

    We bought one brand new in 2017, 2.0 n/a, have had no problems then 38 miles after 100k miles, we take to dealer for a scheduled oil change and and good thing we had the scheduled oil change. The check engine light was on and the oil light came on. The dealer said it was one quart low on oil. We have had every maintenance item done at a Hyundai dealership as well as any interval change etc. We absolutely love the car but we are documenting every single thing in that there is a bulletin out on these motors for 10-year or under 135,000 miles for engine replacement. It is extremely aggravating to buy something brand new and have it be an oil burner 38 miles after it hits 100,000 miles.

However, certain Honda, Toyota, Mazda, others, might have been good. Full spare wheel was a good factor.

    As an owner, I’ve experienced serious issues with the computer (the downhill assist turning on randomly, screens going blank and everything slowing down etc), the keyless entry handle dropping off out of warranty, the AC is not consistent, the plastic clad at the side of the seat with the adjustments detaching, the black coating by the hand lever turning sticky, the faux leather is starting to chip. In the Caribbean, even as I own the same trim as this model in the video, we didn’t get that level of tech especially compared to the tech that Mazda offers with the 2017 CX-5. Also, we have the rear vents and charging port. All around, it’s ok but reliability and value are key issues. I’m waiting for the new CX-5 so that I can upgrade.

Replaced for a couple of hundred with Hyundai. Car was a few months out of warranty and Hyundai replaced the base seat on the drivers side for free as the vinyl was cracking. Fuel economy is excellent and it has a sport mode that firms up the steering and holds on to the gears a little longer. There are rear air-con vents btw. They are u der the front seats. We have driven it 125,000 k’s and she never complains. I highly recommend the purchase of a second hand one with a solid service history.

    I have a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited 1.6 Turbo (U.S. Version). My driver side, driver rear side, and front passenger window all had the issue where the cog in the window regulator wore out, so the window would not roll or stay up. The window regulator cost between $300-350 depending on when and where I purchased them from. I was able to do the repair myself by watching videos on KZread. This happened at about 80,000-82,000 miles. However, I do like to drive with my windows down. My front passenger door lock stopped unlocking the door from the outside after someone slammed my door quite hard. Other than that, no problems. I changed that part out when I replaced the window regulator. Thought about buying a new car, but mine is paid off, so I'm keeping it.

I had all maintenance and oil changes done with Hyundai dealer and they never caught a problem that would lead me to believe it had the capacity for the rod bearings to fail. FuN CARS BUT BEWARE AND CHECK OUT THE ENGINE THROUGHLY BEFORE PURCHASE.

    I bought a 2015 Tucson Elite 2L petrol brand new after seeing all of the Mazda CX-5 and they just looked boring. I love my Tucson, and it has spoiled me. I'm 6'3" in the old money, and carrying a keg or three, and I can still get in without having to bend my head too much under the sill and still clearing the roof liner, and the driver's seat is still going strong. I was totally over the bad old ergonomics of the key-in-the-steering-column of previous vehicles, and now I just love the push button start, and it's hard to see how I can go back now. I've done just over 95,000kms in this car and I've only had two major expenses, replaced the original battery early this year and I'm still on my second set of tyres. The noise isn't much worse than when I bought the car, and I just stay on the metropolitan roads with an occasional interstate trip. My only gripe would be is that I think it's a bit underpowered, a 2.5L or 3L 6cyl engine would make it a lot more exciting.
