what is the problem of "making the community look bad"? because from were i'm standing that boat already sailed, went across the world, then set sailed again, several times over, in the digital tides of the web ocean. And those currents don't give a damn if you look bad, in fact, that's funny.
@XxJWaynexX
Ай бұрын
@@pensador6953 I'm not sure what you asking exactly but I'll try to answer you. If your implying that it's funny that the community already looks bad and has looked bad for so long that its pointless to try and correct the image then you're don't truly care about your people and should probably distance yourself from further talks with and for them. If your asking why is it important to correct the image of our community, then is a bit more complex. See perception is everything. How people, culture, ideas, everything is perceived on a macro scale. As far as how that perception affects a community is rather simple, if a businesses see a neighborhood as volatile or as an immediate loss then they aren't gonna build business or put stores near that area. The schools will be terrible because they're not going to invest in those areas either. How a group of people is perceived by the majority has huge ramifications on everything to do with the quality of life. So I a country that's predominantly white yes you have to worry about it and if it's negative you have to find ways to change it for the better. I want a culture to be proud of and that ghetto rachet hood shit ain't it, spinning the block on fellow blacks isn't it, promoting drug use and selling drugs isn't it, degrading women/hyper sexualizing women and twerking ass everywhere isn't it, stealing and thuggin it out isnt it. Sorry if you rock with that shit but stupidity is stupidity no matter how you paint it.

Culture. I'm white. My younger brother is white, but he's into that hood culture. When he was eleven my mom moved the family into some ghetto apartments after her and his dad lost the family home. I'm seven years older than my brother so I didn't live with them, but I'd visit a lot and take my brother to do things, like going to the movies or going off-road in my truck. I love my brother and that was a really hard time for him. More and more often when I'd come to see him he didn't want to hang out. He had other things to do. Turns out her had fallen in with a bad crowd at those apartments and started "hustling". Doing drugs, selling drugs, thieving. Listening to gangsta rap and wanting that lifestyle for himself. It messed up his head to where his priorities are completely mixed up. Recently he had a bad accident and was severely injured. He lost his leg. I was extremely worried about him, as he doesn't have much and doesn't even have a reliable place to live, but a miracle happened and he got $20,000 from insurance. I thought "thank God, he can get his prosthetic leg and hopefully rent an apartment, and have money for food and transportation.". So what did he do? He bought a $5000 gold chain. He doesn't have a damn leg and he bought a chain! And he wasted almost all of the money on other stupid crap, like playing the big shot giving money to bad b*tches. I'm praying insurance covers a prosthetic leg for him, but it doesn't look good. He's staying at someone's house and he has far overstayed his welcome. I'm concerned he'll soon be homeless, and crippled he won't last long.

Our mom is with my brother right now trying to get him straightened out, but there isn't much she can do. She says my brother realizes how stupid he has been, and he's trying to fix things. But this is a years-long cycle with him. He starts doing ok, working a job and maybe renting a place of his own, then just throws it away going back to his gangsta BS. One time he ranted to me how BS it was that he had to pay for stuff, especially rent. And if he wanted something he was just going to take it. Because he DESERVED to have things. He can be a very helpful generous, loving person. But other times he's a complete POS. I've given up on him multiple times, but never for good. He's my little brother, and he's so much younger than me that I basically raised him. I was always building stuff for him, and taking him places. It makes me happy to see him happy. I love him more than anyone except maybe our Mom, and I have more of a bond with him than I do with Mom. But I don't think he'll get better. I've been waiting for years to get a call that he was gone. I hope I'm wrong though. He could still have a good life, even missing a leg.

@@aquagrl81 I have, at least four times in the past eight years. He always ends up getting pissed off and leaving. The last time was last summer. He told our mom he was going to the job agency. He was gone for hours. He finally came home and when Mom asked what happened he said the job agency was closed so he went to hang out with his buddy. So I called the agency and they confirmed that they were open all day. He had blown it off to go get high. I said "Bro you're such a liar." And he flipped out, because he has that "You better respect me or else" mindset. He said he wanted to fight and you me to go outside. All while yelling and cussing at me. Our mom was in an abusive relationship for years so he knows she can't handle yelling but he didn't care. Now most times in our life I'd be able to handle my brother easily. But in the past few years I've had some injuries that have left me barely able to walk at times. So I said, "dude I'm crippled right now" and he said, "I'm going to beat your crippled ass.". I've been struggling with my loss of physical strength so that hurt me deeply. And it was ridiculous he wanted to fight just because I called him out on lying to us. But that's how that ghetto attitude is. People shoot other people over respect. I told him he needed to leave(he would have anyway like he always does). But anyway he left a few days later. I said he couldn't come back. But actually I did let him move back in for a while last winter. He's my little brother and I'll always help him, even though he's hard to live with. He knows he's welcome now. I just went and got a bed for him just in case he does move in again.

[3] Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, [4] And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. [5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. [7] Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. [8] It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. [9] Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; [10] So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine. [11] My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; [12] For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. [13] Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; [14] For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. [15] She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. [16] Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor. [17] Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. [18] She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her. [19] The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; [20] By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew. [21] My son, let them not depart from your eyes- Keep sound wisdom and discretion; [22] So they will be life to your soul And grace to your neck. [23] Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble. [24] When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. [25] Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; [26] For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught. [27] Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so. [28] Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come back, And tomorrow I will give it,” When you have it with you. [29] Do not devise evil against your neighbor, For he dwells by you for safety’s sake. [30] Do not strive with a man without cause, If he has done you no harm. [31] Do not envy the oppressor, And choose none of his ways; [32] For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord, But His secret counsel is with the upright. [33] The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the home of the just. [34] Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble. As a Black man, I'm afraid of my own people much more than I am of anyone else. I been in situations where the level of ignorance was off the charts and one wrong move couldve ended up with someone dead. Now I do love my people. I've had great times with plenty, but sometimes i get so disappointed. What frustrates me is that when ONE Black person does something bad, it reflects on ALL of us. Not just the individual. We as a community need to do better, and that starts in the home.
@XxJWaynexX
Ай бұрын
"When one Black person does something it reflects on All of us" I literally was expressing this same sentiment the other day. Had family in Memphis that we'd have to visit and I absolutely hated going because I was always the called white boy because while they were learning how to fight and sell I was reading books and hella scared to get in trouble. As a people in America we have to carry our selves to a certain standard which is sometimes higher than what is required of others. This is true for any minority population though. The thing is most of us know this and they still choose to act rachet or ignorant stealing, fighting in public, always showing aggression first, more likely to kill our neighbor than come together to collectively make things better. We have a lot of rich culture to be proud of but the hood and the streets will never one of them. Instead of being proud of our successes most of us are proud of tearing down one another. I have never said this before but I really don't think that there's a more self destructive community which is truly sad because I truly love my people to death. I just want for generations hundreds of years from now to be proud of us and be proud that they're Black.

When I was about that little girl who stole from the dollar general’s age. My mom caught me stealing from Kmart. She told me that she was very disappointed in me, first she made me return what I stole and apologize. That’s not the end, I was grounded for a month, no video games, no TV, and I couldn’t go outside. That taught me an important lesson. If you do something wrong long enough you will eventually get caught. But the lesson (though painful at the time) isn’t the only reason I haven’t stolen since. The real reason is I never wanted to see the look in her eye again when she said she was disappointed in me.

Anyway, another good lesson is learning to wait for the things you want and work to have the ability to get them because for all you know your desire will change and it won't feel worth it. I was dead broke homeless with my wife and kids for a time, managed to get a job and went through hell just adjusting to it but I stuck with it, got an apartment and to now owning our own house........plot twist my wife became mentally unwell and started accusing me of a bunch of horrible stuff, she's been in jail for dmv for over 7 months now, she has since been found incompetent to stand trial so now my hope is she will start getting better and possibly realize she hasn't been herself, again I'm just waiting for what I want most of all at this point.... we have 3 kids together.

I'm a white dude from Russia. To me, black culture is Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Blind Willie McTell, Leadbelly, Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, A Tribe Called Quest. I'm not sophisticated enough for most hardcore jazz like Coltrane or Thelonious Monk, but Oscar Peterson is probably my favourite person to listen to about music. I don't understand music theory well enough to enjoy jazz discussions, but Oscar Peterson can explain the most difficult concepts so eloquently, and is so effortlessly charming, and has an uncanny ability to imitate other musicians. There isn't a single Russian who doesn't know Louis Armstrong, B.B.King or Bob Marley, and they're beloved by many generations. Basically, none of the music I like would be possible without black people, rock and metal included. My dad shared countless blues, rock'n'roll and jazz favourites with me since I was a kid, and it's memories I'll treasure forever. He actually collected, copied and traded those vinyl records ever since his own early teenage years in the USSR, even though it was actually illegal back then. Duke Ellington's "Caravan" is my mothers favourite song, btw. They met at a local jazz concert in a small mining town in Kazakhstan. And we didn't even mention LeVar Burton, Lance Reddick, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman... My friend group quotes Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle on the daily. They're smart, insightful and funny as hell, even when you come from so, so far away. And then there's literature, theatre, and don't even get me started on african culture. Long story short, the "dysfunctional" part doesn't define black culture as a whole, not even close. It's just one part of it, one side of it. Unfortunately, every culture can have an ugly side. But it's not everything, at least definitely not for black culture. I used to be so ashamed of modern Russian music (it's those same trap beats with very similar materialistic themes like money, alcohol and "bitches", obviously inspired by US rappers). Nowadays, I feel so, so much more shame, guilt and pain for my culture than ever before... war is horror. I feel I won't live to see this shame washed away. It'll probably take a century or two to just become bearable, and won't ever be forgotten, even though I never chose this horror, never supported it, never voted for it or any of the people perpetrating it. The pain is crippling, and I know of multiple people who struggle with suicidal thoughts because of it (myself and my wife included). Horribly enough, I also know a few people who support the war too, completely deluded by the information war, state propaganda, the "fake news" machine, etc.

I cant tell you how many times in my 35 years ive been called soft or p**** because I literally got a degree l, married my wife, took care of my kids, and stayed away from all the bullshit. I learned my self that being a man is being a great father, a faithful sensitive husband, a kind person that will ask what's wrong as I get cussed out, that stands up for women when needed, that plays tag with all kids at the parks when I take mine, constantly working on myself to be a better person internally. Being a man isn't found in any sort of music or anything targeted at our community from OUR people.

Why are things like education, speaking clearly and concisely, working an honest job, dressing in clothing that fits, taking care of your responsibilities, punctuality, and other qualities that would benefit any human being considered white? Look at the most successful countries from all over the world and those are the qualities that have built those countries successfully. I'm not black or white but never understood why those things are considered exclusively white qualities and why the black community seems so opposed to those things. I was a nerdy white kid who grew up overseas and went to a British international school. Things changed when my parents divorced and i moved to the US. I went to a middle school in California in 7th-8th grade and was bullied for being nerdy (skinny, wore glasses, got good grades etc.). I didn’t have a strong father figure because my dad was halfway across the country and my stepdad really wasn’t great or attentive at all. The culture shock, bullying and being an outcast pushed me towards wanting to be accepted by my peers. I started smoking weed at 13 with my older brother and started hanging with the stoners in high school. I started ditching class, my grades dropped, I stopped caring about school or my future. I tried to act like a thug but really was just a wannabe. I started hanging out with gangbangers outside of school. I found community, people who I thought cared about me but really didn’t. I almost died multiple times, was shot at, was in neighborhood brawls, robbed people, jumped people etc. I was completely lost and just an all round dirtbag. Got addicted to heavy drugs. I’m almost 30 now and have had to work hard to reverse a lot of the horrible decisions I made in my younger years. I can totally understand how folks get caught up in that violent cycle. It really sucks. I cringe every time I think about my past self. Had to completely move state and leave my family to try and get away from it all. Ended up being mentally and physically abused by one of my old neighborhood ‘friends’. Someone who was just using me as it turned out. He had kids and was just a fkin horrible role model for them. I really feel bad for them. It opened my eyes up and made me realize that I want absolutely nothing to do with those types of people. I’m now a proud, sober square who is building a family and trying to do right so I don’t perpetuate any of the bs I went through onto my future children or friends. It’s possible to change for the better, but extremely difficult to reconcile with my past. Make smart decisions folks and raise your darn kids properly. It all starts at home.

Thank you for making the video to say shit that needs to be said, one of the most heart breaking things about all those dying to unnecessary violence is that both sides of the interaction, whoever started or escalated and whoever dies both lose their lives (some get away with the murder killings but are they ever personally the same either inside or how others see them?) and 2 families become more broken than they needed to be. So often over so little, neighborhood beef on land you don't own, a lack of respect being shown, ECT. It's so annoying to see people who claim to care about black lives be so ready to stiff arm any conversation about black on black violence. And to be clear, if any other group of people were harming their own communities in such ways at similar numbers I would be heart broken by that as well.

@XxJWaynexX

One time he ranted to me how BS it was that he had to pay for stuff, especially rent. And if he wanted something he was just going to take it. Because he DESERVED to have things. He can be a very helpful generous, loving person. But other times he's a complete POS. I've given up on him multiple times, but never for good.

Props to you, and hold on. Don't worry, people find new cool ways to be mean to each other every day. Race doesn’t even need to be a part of it. Grew up in Eastern Europe, and got mugged multiple times by "ghetto" petty criminals of all nationalities - slavs, chechens, uzbeks, you name it. People would laugh at me because I'm "too smart" (because I used the word "syntax" in a sentence - are you for real?), or threaten me cause I wear my hair long and listen to metal and shit. This other time I got punched in the face by a total stranger outside a bar because I was "dancing like a fag" (me and a guy friend were drunk and pretended to dance with each other to make our other friends laugh). It still stings that I didn’t find the courage to punch back. My gf of 14 years (who was there too btw) always tells me I did the right thing by not responding... but man, it stings. There's just something in male culture that makes you feel like you're a coward for not fighting back, even if it's the stupidest fucking fight over absolutely fucking nothing outside some fucking wannabe-yuppie bar. So, long story short - race is just an excuse for subjecting others your shitty personality and aggression. When race isn't available, people easily find other excuses to be dickheads to each other.

Also I get that waiting for something is hard.... most of my life has been spent waiting for things and it's been some time that I've been able to have a lot the things I want by working for them, and a lot of the time I realize having some things isn't quite as good as the idea of having them was but then I'm out that amount of money to have it, just recently my 50 inch tv got broken, I got a really good deal on it but still thats money I'll never get back for that moment in time.

Look at the most successful countries from all over the world and those are the qualities that have built those countries successfully. I'm not black or white but never understood why those things are considered exclusively white qualities and why the black community seems so opposed to those things. The black people I've known throughout life who are successful or live long, happy lives all exude those "white" traits.

@2amichaelj Look into Thomas Sowell. He explains this with Black Rednecks and White Liberals. He is a brilliant economist and historian. And he explains so much about culture both past and present, and goes into detailed history that no one is ever taught. He should be upheld as a leader. It wasn't always this way.

As someone who’s black and mexican mixed, I wholeheartedly relate to that kid complaining about the music. Growing up I couldn’t relate to the black kids at school and I didn’t want to be friends with them because I didn’t feel black enough and I didn’t enjoy the music they were about. I listen to rock and metal and folk music that preaches peace and love and deep topics that isn’t explored anywhere else and I get shit from other black people for it. Even my own family would be like “why do you listen to white people music” and most of the time I’d ignore them but simply because they don’t sing about harming others or stealing or gang related stuff.

I think it's even crazier because in other music genres there is negative imagery (I can point to Rock and metal for fairly obvious examples as certain subgenres do encourage violence, amorality, etc) but they still do not suffer the same issue. My father was from section 8 housing to a family where half weren't able to read or write. He didn't let that stop him from achieving success and now has a masters degree, a loving family, never been to jail, & has been a strong role model in my life. I pray that we as a community can learn the true value of a life & how to make it worth living.

Literally my favorite KZreadr at this point, these conversation videos really make an impact on my way of thinking nowadays.
