I haven't played Zelda games for long but honestly Echos of Wisdom feels way more like the old Zelda games than people think. I agree with you that this game style would fit Princess Zelda more than a sword or a bow would. Most of the time there is progression for the sake of it, but Zelda has never fallen into that trap; its always felt purposeful and methodical.

I think I'd like to see at least one zelda game that is a refined and polished old zelda formula for each console, and at least one zelda game where they radically experiment. That way both fans get something they like and they can see what works and what doesn't.

I'm tired of talk where the fans of the "new" zelda and "old" Zelda games are represent as two cabals opposite the each other. The same people can like both type of game and want both type of game. It's not because the non linear Zelda games are good that linear ones cannot also be good and wanted.

Precisely. So does Zelda have to permanently stay goofy, open-world pseudo building games? I love the old style games, botw was the single most disappointing game I ever paid money for, but I'm still HELLA excited for the new game. I'm just hoping it isn't goofy-ass empty world with no dungeons and nothing to do but collect literal shit and ooh and aah at name references.

What's the difference between SS/Zelda 2 and BotW/TotK? How successful the latter is and how they sold over 50 million units combined. Zelda's gonna stay open and that's awesome, but if you enjoy having your handheld and puzzles spoiled by a wack sidekick character? Go play the old games (they aren't going anywhere) and let the majority enjoy the new and better open entries 🥰

And it seems like you're upset that someone pointed out a very fair point, that being the sales. Skyward Sword sold 3 million, BotW sold 30 million and TotK over 20 million in a year. That's quite the difference in how much money a business has made now isn't it? Aonuma also said Zelda isn't going back but keep huffing that copium Edit: BotW and TotK don't hold your hand, Fi and Midna spoil puzzle solutions in dungeons and in the overworld while telling you exactly where to go and what to do. And the old 3d Zelda games didn't need that due to them feeling like a hallway and the player not being able to go off the beaten path. Exploration sucked in the 3d games past OoT until BotW/TotK. The most we'll get with traditional Zelda is probably remakes and remasters going forward, kind of like how 2D Kirby games going forward will probably be for remakes and remasters. I think many would agree that a happy medium would be the best solution. Still giving the freedom and exploration of the open world games, but still have those traditional dungeons, mechanics, stories, etc; or something like that. I get the feeling that Echoes of Wisdom will be that happy medium, with it being a 2D Zelda and not a fully open world 3D Zelda like BOTW and TOTK. Maybe the next 3D Zelda could also be a happy medium now that they're moving away from the Wild era Zelda as many have called it

I was severely disappointed in botw, and totk was only mildly better by having at least attempts at standard dungeons. That being said, I'm super excited for EoW regardless. It seems like they very much enjoy bastardizing the ALttP world for new, strange gimmick games, but that's neither here nor there; that alone tells me that there's at least an attempt at having structured, engaging dungeons, and that's all I want. The issue with having an infinite number of solutions like botw and totk is that the puzzles basically have to be braindead easy in order to have so many ways to finish them. 75% of the shrines in totk could be solved by shoving a rocket on your shield and flying over a wall. That's not clever, or interesting, or engaging. It's boring and samey and ridiculously simple for like 100+/150 "puzzle dungeons". I'd rather have 5-10 enormous dungeons with all those little puzzles stuffed inside. Let people experiment in a way that allows freedom, but don't expand freedom so far that it takes actual skill and problem-solving out the window in favour of "options".

Why not both good story and freedom. Totk could have easily just made sure that each time you access a video clip it gives them in the right order, not all mixed up. As for Skyward sword it did not do poorly because it was linear. It has so many other probkems. The motion control didn't always work, the Zora wierd squids, the gorons were mostly missing, you fought the same bosses multiple times, the sky islands were few and far between, are just a few.

We'll see. After TotK, whenever the Zelda team talks about "letting players use their creativity", that for me is now a red flag. Because, in all honestly, it's a empty marketing tagline that they use to get away with not even caring about balance in level and puzzle design. Because who cares about entire puzzles being easily skippable using tutorial-level actions when you can upload a TikTok of you pulling off some crazy shit to do the exact same thing, am I right? It looks like they are going to limit the amount of echoes you can use at any given moment, so that's a good sign. But they also show Zelda skipping what looks like an entire floor of content by just stacking three water blocks on top of each other, so... We'll have to wait until the final game comes out. But I'm not optimistic.

Echoes of Wisdom looks really interesting to me, and I'm excited. I think that many people of this vocal minority are projecting their disappointment of BotW and TotK on the new game. Let's look at what this game will definitively or might entail: - Heart-Pieces are confirmed - it's hugely likely that we saw glimpses of a boss and its fight in the trailer - dungeons are really, really likely (I mean come on, it's a Zelda-game!) - the Triforce will likely make a return (a character named after it and who used golden triangles is already confirmed) - it's also highly likely that we will directly witness a full story and adventure from the beginning to its end (Zelda's, in this case) - this game, way more that BotW and TotK, might simulate item-progression from the older games, because the player might only get certain echoes in certain locations, and not get access to all of them at the beginning of the game - maybe we also won't have shrines anymore Looks pretty traditional to me! I hope Zelda will strive in the future for games which combine both worlds, the new and the traditional. Some complaints (as you rightfully mention in the video) about this game when it's not even out yet are, honestly, ridiculous, and I hope they will quiet down with time. MM and WW were heavily criticized after release because they were "different", and now they are beloved classics.

@@gl3936 I'm not a huge fan of pointlessly open world games to begin with. Games like witcher, Skyrim, fallout, horizon, etc.... They're all the exact same game with a different skin on top, and they got boring a decade ago. Botw literally just took the conventions of a dying genre, slapped zelda names on it, and twitter journo tards called it spectacular and innovative. It's not a Zelda game in anything but name, unfortunately, and it's barely enough of an open world game that can stand on its own. What is there to do but collect shit and wander about reading location names, reminiscing about the games you actually had fun playing? The only people who irrefutable love botw are the ones who experienced it as their first zelda game, or were never actual fans in the first place. 🤷🏼

When I hear people say they want things to go back to the way things 'were'. I don't think they've been playing Zelda as long as many of us have. Zelda 1 Allowed you to start on level 1, 2, or 3. You could enter 3 to get to 4 which would allow you to beat 5 and 7, and entering 1 would allow you to beat 6, and 8, so if you entered 1, 3, and then 4, you could beat in order 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and then 1 if you wished. THAT is how things 'were'. It wasn't a set linear path in the beginning. I remember when Ocarina of Time came out, and some of my friends and I complaining that I wish they'd go back to a non-linear path like the original had. Breath of the Wild used a system of different weapons and armor I wished Zelda had back in the mid 90s. I remember finding armor upgrades in Link to the Paste and thought it would be interesting if Link had different armors and weapons similar to Diablo 1 at the time. Had to wait around 20 years for that. If you were in middle school when Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess came out. Linear Zelda games were NOT how they 'used' to be. A Zelda game should have dungeons, puzzles, unique equipment to be used in puzzles, and an open ended path that rewards and challenges players use and skill in the game. Everything else is the thematics and shtick that the developers can come up with. Echoes of Wisdom looks like they are doing just that and bringing a good Zelda experience. The icing on top is we get to finally play as Zelda outside of a Smash game. And let me tell you, ever since the second Smash Bros game where she was a playable character, we've been wanting her playable in a game.
