Does De Quervain's tenosynovitis go away?

Ғылым және технология

De Quervain’s tenosynovitis normally doesn’t go away unless you take appropriate action. Most of the time this just means a steroid injection, some simple stretches, and activity modification. I frequently treat De Qervain’s tenosynovitis in my orthopedic practice. Most of my patients get better without surgery, however there are some that need it.

I’ve had my pain for just about 5-6 months now. I’m a musician, play all sorts of instruments and so my tendons are put into a lot of different sorts of stress, and unfortunately its taken over both of my hands as a result. I’ve used a brace, medications, whatever, and none of it has helped. I’m meant to take a 2 week break soon but these past 6 months its been really difficult as a peforming musician, as I’ve had a lot of shows to prepare for that I had already began preparing for at that time, so I didn’t want to stop. I’m sort of addicted to the music grind 😅 I’m coming up on a break from shows soon with school ending though so I’m thankfully going to be able to take my break soon and will likely be able to see a physical therapist. Struggling with this is difficult but I wanna let everyone know that you’re incredible for pushing through it and I know sometimes it feels like hell to work with and it prevents you from doing certain things for a prolonged amount of time, but you’ll get through it! I wish my best to all of you and I love you

I am a bassist. I have been dealing with thumb and wrist pain for a month now. Question please. Aside from the pain I feel when I move my thumb or wrist in certain ways, when I stretch my thumb out, I feel something popping near the base. Also when I twist my wrist, I feel something popping on the top side of my wrist. Is this common with this condition? I have had x-rays done and they are negative for any fractures or breaks. Thanks

I go for my surgery in Dec. Mine steed from a biking accident though. And I did a decent amount of damage. Partially torn two tendons, and two ligaments in the thumb. As well as then developed tenosynovitis, and arthritis (psuedo-gout) in the thumb/wrist from it then. Been dealing with it for now 2 1/2 years. Tried everything, bracing, injections, pt, tens, ultrasound therapy, heat and ice therapy, massages, etc.... Unfortunately it just isn't working. So now am getting ready for surgery. I have lost a lot of strength, and flexibility in my thumb/wrist, to the point my muscles have atrophied a lot, and my thumb is starting to hyper extend the opposite way. There is a shit ton of pain. And doing just about anything with the hand is very painful and difficult.

@@mariselaramirez1091 I had injections in both hands and surgery on one. It took much time for both hands to heal, but now surprisingly the hand that never got surgery is my good hand. You almost have to live in hand braces for about 3 months for it to turn around. You might want to try Alpha Lipoic Acid, not sure if it was a cooincidence , but nerve pain started slowly getting better after.

Ive had severe pain for around 3 years now. I got diagnosed with this around a month ago, but refused the injection (I was really scared, once with an injection I fainted twice and had to spend some time in the hospital, so I avoid them). They sent me for 10 ultrasound treatments but it feels like it made it worse. It's so debilitating i have trouble holding utensils, my phone, cups, typing... I cry because the pain is so intense. I'll try to streching excercise that's recommended. I feel bad for all of you who also have to deal with this.

Unreal. They spray your hand with a cold, numbing spray to where you dont even feel the injection. It is sore for a day or so, and then it will feel better. Hopefully. It's ridiculous to be that terrified of a small little needle like that. Especially when it will, more than likely give you relief to do normal activities again.

Developed this about 6 weeks ago. Started going to therapy. So far no improvement. I suspect I will be getting an injection soon. It’s surprising how debilitating this is. In the past I wouldn’t go in to get this checked out for months or years. Decided I am going to be proactive from now on. I’m pretty sure the injection will help. It helped with my trigger thumb, but in the end I had surgery on my thumb. This is very similar so I bet I’ll end up under the knife.

Well, I ended up getting an ultrasound guided cortisone shot. Couple days later, most of the pain was gone. A week later, completely gone. Worked for about 5 months, completely pain free. Last couple months the pain has slowly been returning. Still not as bad as it originally was. I have been doing the exercises from Physical therapy the entire time even though pain free.

No rest anywhere and even feel golfers in my right...lost my old job. Found a new but its not perfect. Working with hands all day. Waiting to come to the hospital first check. Then i guess surgery? Am so confused if i should or should not do it...all say do it and some say..dont! It will be worse. Gosh with my luck i prolly get ruin hands forever after one. Am stretching alot right now. Its tiny better. Ordered cissus pills...hope they might help to....i feel like the unluckiest person since i turned 30...problems all the time!

I had the same thing and it is taking a long time to heal. The best thing that I did was get a wrist splint, it forced it to rest and calm down. The "VELPEAU Wrist Brace with Thumb Spica Splint" is a great brace for a good price. Good luck.
