Dodge Van $100 Paint Job using battery powered paint sprayer

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

POV prep and paint job of my 1994 Dodge Ram Van B250...
Needed a fresh look on the cheap.
No primer, just prep and sprayed over light surface rust.
Using 1 Gallon Kit of Blue Gray Metallic Single stage high gloss enamel ($105 value)
and CACOOP cordless paint sprayer
Not shown all that much was removing the old crusty pin stripes, which were really tough to remove. I used a razor blade and then goof off spray to remove the sticky adhesives before sanding.
Had to paint in 4 separate parts because of battery life of the paint sprayer. (Spraying of the rear doors and hood not shown)
Driver side, Passenger side, and Roof are recorded.

I say it's pretty damn good, all things considered! Heck I would have just rolled the roof in gloss black, who's gonna see it? And yes, I would have primered most of that before I started spraying, but in the end it didn't matter.I liked your idea of a bunch of thin coats as opposed to 2 or 3 thick ones. It made for a better job IMHO. I think it's a win!

Appreciate writing down your thoughts and kind words! I originally wanted to roll the whole van, but ended up giving electric powered sprayers a shot. For less than $200 paint job for a van, I was not disappointed-- Maaco wanted to charge me $3-4k+! At the end of the day, it's a camper van that'll be put to work in the harsh elements. Concerning about my paint while driving through tree branches is the least of my worries

Considering that orange peels galore, to have primed it before would not have made a lot of a difference. I've heard that with them electric sprayers, single stage and thick materials alike does a better job, but still orange peel seems to be a constant. I think that with corded unity with the compressor separated and with a nozzle of 1.0mm or less, the results would have been better, also wet sanding it with 2000 grit and higher would not have hurt it.

Honestly it’s good ,,, if you lightly wet sand it then polish or clear coat it it’d be pretty close to pro ,,, only thing is to be perfect would be filling in the body and peeping it uniform and evenly,,, but like I said ,,, it’s good you can always go back and refine it over time 👍🏾

Nice job. I’m no expert but it’s giving me motivation to tackle a project daily I purchased that’s been sitting for like 5 months with clear coat peeling. I was told these guns are not recommended by so many and the paint would be too thick. Now I’m gonna purchase one any way. What grit sand paper did you use prior to using the gun

Glad to hear! I would highly suggest you pick an electric sprayer that's corded. Also I think I used 320 grit to prep the surface

Not very much! I made sure I did it in order (painted the areas first where it will cause more overspray around the perimeter) It’s also a very large square-ish van too.

What is wrong with orange peel? We are just accustomed to seeing glass-smooth finish on cars. I suspect that the painted walls in your house have orange peel. Does that look ugly to you?
