Dodge - Follow - Float Midfield Motion | Lacrosse | POWLAX

Спорт

This "Triangle Offense based" is easy to understand motion and reinforces the concepts of spacing, dodging to draw a slide, and swinging the ball. When paired with a sweeping motion will allow your players to make decisions in relation to what is happening on the field. Can be run from the midfield or attack and be used as a part of the 21-12 offense.

Hey. I love your content, I've been implementing a lot of your ideas on the high school team I coach. A quick suggestion for a video... Maybe talk about what motions/rotations work well against and/or what personal is best for the motion/rotation and then maybe some live film demonstrations? Again, love your videos, your the only person I've actually went on pateron and paid for content. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, That's a great idea for a new video. I'll reach out to some of the other coaches that are using them and see if I can find some new HS and Youth Film. I should definitely be able to get to that in the next year. Right now, I'm struggling to find the time to get to videos with Spring Lax in full swing and Summer Lax looming. What are you implementing? How has it gone? Do you have any film on it that I may be able to use? Thanks for becoming a Patron. I'm glad that you've found the content valuable.

@@POWLAX my JV team is very new to lacrosse (I only have about 5 players that's have played real lacrosse, I have all brand new players on my 2nd mid line..) so I have only put in the fade follow float (I called it Charlie too) and a sweep. They have really started to get comfortable with it and it's starting to translate to games, just tough because the stick skills aren't always there, BUT they are getting to the right spots And starting to find the open look, get to open space, get open hands, etc. But I love how you teach the offense, it makes it a structured motion offense that gives kids rules to follow. When I played the "rule" was to change position anytime the ball moved, which didn't make sense to most players , especially new

That's great to hear! I'm glad that the players are understanding it. Are you clearing through the nearside attackman on the dodge or fading him to X? If you are clearing him through, have him pick the crease slide. It really opens up the alleys for dodges. As you have been building the offense, have you been using the Skeleton Shooting Drills and 3v0's, 3v2's and 3v3's? On the defensive end, have you tried the Salisbury Call Drill?

@@POWLAX Because I have so little experience I was finding it hard for my attack to anticipate it time up getting across, so I have been keeping them in a 12 set and telling the Dodge he has tostart more middle of the field to not run into the extra D. It's been working well and letting the few mids that have experience to take more control of the game I have been using the 3v2s alot along with the 3v3s. I like how it really isolates the concepts and looks

Patrick, If the Attack were to run Dodge Follow Float, is your recommendation to run them out of 21 12 offense or can it be done out of 2-3-1? In either case, do you have a PDF or Green screen version of DFF for the Attackmen? Trying to visualize how it would work. Thank you!

I want to say that it is in the DFF PDF, but it might not be. You would run Dodge Clear Throigh Follow out of a 12 for the attackman. Dodge from X, clear through the side he dodges to and follow behind the dodge from the opposite side.

POWLAX l Patrick Chapla Got it. Makes sense now. Exploring further: which mid motions to combine with attack motions. I understand M motion and A motion can be run separately but what about getting both wheels turning simultaneously? Thx!

Patrick, I am adding sweep float and dodge float for a varsity team in Va. What motion does the attack follow for these motions? Standard triangle rotations for a 3-2-1?

They can run any style of rotation as the midfield is running their dodges and motions. The keys I like to consider when telling them what I'd like them to do are: 1) Are they getting out of the way of the dodge. 2) Who is the forward outlet and are they a good passer. 3) How can I simplify their movements to allow them to play fast and with their strong hands. After that it's just about them playing.

Hey patrick, with a jv hs group... how soon are you running this into the season. The 3v3 has adjacent and crease slide concepts along with recovery, showing, shedding, and slow play. With about 1/3 of my team being new... how would you recommend progressively teaching this? I know crease slide and recovery is hard enough for them as is.. do you scale this or only focus in certain things early season and wait until later for other skills?

We’ll run this in the first week 3v3 and walk through how it relates to team concepts in 5v5. For the defensive portion, we’ll run the line bump drill, triangle show drill, and 5 on a Die drill to teach the defensive sliding concepts.
