If you have a RWD Dakota (2 wheel drive) front hub/bearing may simply be bolted onto steering knuckle from behind with 3 x 21 mm (13/16) bolts. Remove these and tap hub out from behind with a 3lb hammer, prying as necessary from front with a tire iron or flat screwdriver. Use WD40 liberally also.

Hope you got a good one. Mine's been passed the 300,000 mile mark. I think it's time for valve train checkup and a potential top end rebuilt. That shouldn't be too terribly expensive since the engine shouldn't need to be pulled.

@@RichpinTv I had to take 4x4 bearings and shaft out to get to ball joints on a 2006 ram 2500. looked less rusty than that but anything that needed to come lose came lose with a pow and a cloud of dust and rust. The hub nut, the hub assembly and I had to use a special puller tool for that one. Then pressing the ball joints out themselves. Still prefer the press on and off style over the hot rivet style.

Great video. Very helpful. I have a 2011 Dodge Dakota, 4 wheel drive. I was changing my front passenger bearing hub assembly. When it came time to pull off the Hub, I was not able to. When I look at the shaft there is a metal circular ring around the shaft. I have no idea how to remove it. It is recessed about 1 1/2 inches along the shaft. It is behind the 35mm nut. The drivers side does not have it. Any thoughts as to what it is and how to remove it. Chrysler dealership are of no help unless I bring the truck to them. Thanks - Rick

+Eslamizar well there are other parts that cause slop in your steering moving the tire left to right or back n fourth - a bearing could be one of the issues like this but there are also other steering parts that can be worn or make slop - inner and outer tire rods or just the rack and pinion itself could be bad - which the inner and outer tie rods are apart of your rack and pinion

I believe the 4x4 front bearing on dakotas is different, yours bolts to the hub instead of just sliding over the spindle and being held on with the axle nut. With that said, the axle nut is kinda the last resort of keeping your wheel on when you have a severe bearing failure, so I don't think anyone can give you a definitive yes

  • @ElectricBillAlbright

You should use blue Locktite when reinstalling the caliper mount and the caliper bolts 🔩 to the mount. There's a lot of heating and cooling action along with vibration on the disc brake assembly. The temperature expansion of the metal along with vibration tends to loosen brake assembly hardware. The blue allows the bolts to still be easily loosed when needing service later on. Don't use red!

The spindle is stationary with the trucks frame. It doesn't rotate ! At least it better not rotate. If it's two wheel drive. The hub rotates around the spindle on the bearings inside the hub assembly. It doesn't matter if it's on the ground but it's best to do it without the weight of the truck on it. Especially when installing it. Just make sure you have good support holding truck securely on stands. It's a lot of force 185 ft lbs. You could possibly knock a vehicle off the stands if you have a shady setup.

They are pre-lubed already inside. You might want to put a little grease on the spindle after cleaning it. So the rubber lip seal is lubricated. It will heat up and ruin the seal if it's bare shiny steel against the rubber, as the rubber will try to "grip" the steel surface.
