I had a quick question if I'm going to do one of these heads I have to do a head gasket should I have the head milled or anything in that nature or do you think I will be fine just putting a new head gasket in new head bolts and torquing to spec I've been doing mechanics my whole life I've never done a specific Cummins but I've done many others it looks like a fairly simple job I didn't want to touch anything really on the head cuz I don't think it needs it I'm not rebuilding the motor at this time I this is my everyday driver I know I can get into replacing the valve springs in a three angle valve job and all that but I think I'm going to do the same thing you did it's just take off the bolts and the other things one by one and put them in cardboard and number them all the way down so when I pop the head off all I got to do is put the head gasket on set the head back down put the new head bolts in and torque them down to their yield strength and that should be fine what is your thoughts on that some guys are talking about deck in the head and doing other things

I would check the head for warpage with a straight edge, if it's out by about .003 inch I think that should be fine, check the block as with straight edge as well, have head checked for cracks, if the head gasket and cooling system were working fine before head removal that would be an indication that the above work is not needed, get a valve job done and guides if needed and reinstall head.

What's the part number or name for the tool you used to turn the motor over manually I think it was 1/2"
