Doctor Who: Midnight - CLASSIC WHO EDITION [1963]

Hi!
So I persevered and have completely redone my 'Midnight' Classic Who edition edit. I've trimmed it excessively to just the core scene. The original was about 8 minutes long. But the BBC don't like people having fun.
Hope you guys can enjoy it despite its length.

Midnight definitely has the feel of a Classic Who episode - especially the "siege-mentality" Patrick Troughton stories... ironic given David Troughton's involvement!

AAA I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! The soundtrack fits perfectly, and both it and its positioning in this is *very* reminiscent of the few 60s stories I've watched, and the way you changed the audio to sound older works so well!! Also cutting it off and making that into a cliffhanger yess

This is a terrific concept. The opening establishing shot, picture quality, light exposure and soundtrack do a lot. The one problem is the sound mixing. It's hard to make out what anyone is saying. They seem muffled and the music is blasting over them. With more fine tuning this would be genius.

It’s a problem I’m always struggling with, with these edits. Because what it sounds like on my computer when editing alters greatly when it’s on KZread. So I totally agree with that! I make the effort to lower the volume of the music and up the volume of the footage. But alas it never seems to change 🤷🏻‍♂️ But I’m sure I’ll suss it with future edits!

@@HudsonMedia I know people may look at this style of production nowadays and say that the audio and visuals are rough or the stage is flimsy, but I remember watching some 80's and 90's shows when I was younger and there's something so eerie about this style that we haven't seen ever again. I just feel very comfortable and uneasy at the same time, and maybe that's part of the reason I love the earlier seasons. They did it in Twice Upon a Time for a brief stint, but doing an episode this way? They will probably never do it, but that would be interesting.

  • @HudsonMedia

For sure! It’s a shame shows are more interested in matching each other rather than doing something different. Very few people of my generation watch black and white that I feel it would be pretty much seen as a “new thing” considering how niche it is. It would be great!

Artistically brilliant, but historically very wrong. The sound of these old shows - that you emulate so well here - was due to the very poor sound reproduction of the Film Recorder system that for many shows is the only copy we have.
