One, because it was definite that Matt would be doing a second series. And two, because it gave us a hint that the Doctor would wear a fez again in the future. That's one very good reason to watch the 50th anniversary special "The Day of the Doctor". Although didn't he wear a fez in a few mini episodes before "The Day of the Doctor"? Of course this wasn't the first time a fez had appeared in Doctor Who. A fez first appeared on the show in the 1967 serial "The Evil of the Daleks", the 1975 serial "Pyramids of Mars" and the serial "Silver Nemesis" in 1988 (the year I was born).

It's a fez I wear fezzes now, fezzes are cool.

Matt doesn't even have to act to be doctor who...he just plays himself...poor poor Matt and his fezz...he really can pull off the fez...I wouldn't be surprised to see him walking down the street with a fez on

It would have been interesting to see a whole season with Matt in the fez. After all, "fezzes are cool!"

Matt Smith was the first new Doctor I saw after I started watching Doctor Who. David Tennant had already been the current Doctor for two years when I became a Whovian in 2007.

I love how 13 actually gets the fez that 11 ordered all that time ago 😂

I love how all these years late we come to find out he really bought a fez. It WARMS MY HEART

This is one of the reasons I love Matt as the Dr. He truly loves his fez and bow tie.

Is it wrong that Karen got that much hotter when she put the fez on? Also, who else wanted him to have his hair still sticking out of it during the 50th?

Well, technically, he did! Due to a small continuity error when the two Elizabeth's run up to to kiss Ten you can see Smith's hair sticking out

Peri did complain a lot, but never actually DID anything against it, and neither did Rose tough she seemed to have more of a problem with Nine's simple jumpers than she had with Ten's crazy suit/coat/trainers monster. Amy and River moving as a single unit is also impossibly funny as well as Rory's expression XD

3:28 and The Doctor did buy a Fez, in the Jodie Whittaker episode Kerblam! he bought a Fez, and it was delivered 2 reincarnations later.

The Fez is referencing the 7th Doctor wearing the same in the episode "Silver Nemesis". The Doctor and Ace are in the basement of Windsor Castle. He's wearing the Fez as he wanders around, goes behind some bric-a-brac and then you see Ace wearing the Fez.

LOL, this episode was the best. I love the teamwork between Amy and River with destroying the fez. xD

@Kerriangel Well, I seem to remember an interview with Matt Smith, in which he told that he had read the first page of the script of the Christmas episode. His first reaction was: "Thank you, Stephen!" And Stephen Moffat said he was laughing madly when he wrote the Christmas episode. Maybe Stephen has given Matt a new fez, and was he thinking about the possible reactions of the cast & crew when he was laughing... At least I hope so! :-D

I have to laugh because I did an opera where I played a Turkish guard which meant we had to wear a fez. After the show, I went out and bought one of my own. Lately, it only sees holiday use trimmed out in lights as my "fez-tive" hat but trust me, it might make a more recurrent showing.
