    Hope you are all well! For clarify; I said that the gonococci character was likely pink in colour as gram-negative bacteria (like gonococci) stain pink on gram stain. However he also looks quite purple as well, which is actually the stain colour of gram-positive bacteria (gonococci is NOT gram positive). Probably something I should have talked about... And I wanted to make sure that was clear, just in case someone was about to sit an exam! Have a super week everyone.

    Hello hope you're well too! 1:25 It's not actually lonely, it's a play on the Japanese language. You see the word for lonely (淋し) is the same word as the word for gonorrhea (淋病) or neisseria (淋菌). Hopefully that clears it up a bit 😉

    I had thought it might be because if someone has gonorrhoea, (and is responsible), they won't be having sex until it clears up, so it can't spread? Or maybe the person becomes lonely because they're not having sex. But your explanation makes way more sense!

    BTW, I looked up the colors on the hats of our two protagonist red blood cells, and the one in cells at Work (regular) has a lighter color than the one in Cells at work Code Black edition. Being cuurious and wanting to know why I looked it up, and apparently "darker" red blood cells "carry less oxygen", and this would indicate things like, say the person is a smoker. Being extra curious, I took a color sampler to the two shows, and indeed, the color of the red blood cells in Code black are darker than the ones in the regular show.

CAW:Black has more recurring neutrophil characters, compared to the main CAW series which mainly only focuses on U-1146, with most others being background characters. I also commented on a different doctor's reaction video. Gonorrhea is expressed in 淋病. The former represents gonorrhea and the latter is a disease. Japanese 淋 means *Lonely = Samishii* literally. Also, it means *dripping/drop* in China. In lonely wise, we use 淋 and 寂. The former is literally loneliness (someone is in a forest in tears), and the latter is emptiness or void. Some Chinese friends explained this character differently from mine, but this is a Japanese anime, so gonorrhea means a Lonely Disease in this case. I think you've gotten the point ;)

  • @aaa1e2r3
    @aaa1e2r33 жыл бұрын

    The virus saying "lonely" repeatedly is more likely a reference to how Gonnorhea is written in Japanese. The first Kanji used in writing Gonnorhea is the same one that is used to mean Lonely. In english, this would probably translate to him constantly repeating "Gone. Gone. Gone."

    Hi! My seven-year-old daughter is a big fan of your videos on "Cells at Work!" Thank you for the entertaining and informative videos. (Obviously, my daughter hasn't watched the Code Black series.) My first language happens to be Japanese, and I have a piece of information to explain why the virus said "I'm lonely." That is probably because the infection in the Japanese language is with a Chinese character (Kanji) that means loneliness. That is not the only meaning of the Chinese character. Another but less common meaning the same Chinese character has is "dripping," and that is rather the reason why this Chinese character was used to describe the sickness. Most Japanese speakers think of loneliness rather than dripping when they see the Chinese character, and that is probably why the design of the virus character represent the former meaning.

    @@TheSansationalSans that is super cool. At the beginning it might look strange because we're not used to that kind of lessons. In my case it was even stranger because I'm taking high level biology and watching once upon a time doesn't look like a good way to review, but when you watch it with friends and actually discuss each episode, add facts that were not shown it is an amazing way to memorise a lot of information in short time.

    One thing (of many) that I really like about the Code Black spin-off is how it treats medicine & medication. It shows how effective and useful modern medicine can be, but also how it can be overly relied-upon to manage problems originating from not taking care of oneself. These two episodes are a great example; first this guy takes medication to make his willy work, then immediately takes something else to deal with the resulting STD. Obviously there’s nothing inherently wrong with taking medication for an infection or to help with a deficiency, but in this case the pills are an excuse for poor decision-making and bad health choices.

    The japanese word for gonorrhea is 淋病 rinbyou. The first character 淋 is a kanji character for lonely. Not sure though why Japanese named gonorrhea with using that character, maybe because most who got it are lonely thus the casual sex part? Dunno

  • @navetal

    @navetal

    3 жыл бұрын

    As Kim Yoonmi said in another comment, the kanji also used to mean (or maybe it still does, I don't know Japanese) "pock marked" and likely gained the meaning of "lonely" later as people who had pox were shunned to protect the community.

    Kanji can have multiple readings (often at least two, one Chinese and one native Japanese (onyomi and kunyomi, respectively)). So it is possible lonely is one reading for the Kanji and "pock marked" is the other.

    I'm not sure whether the disease name was first created in Japan or China. But 淋 means "drip" in Chinese. So 淋病 actually means dripping disease, probably describing the symptom of pus discharge.

    for those who are new to CELLS at work, this is season 2. AKA Cells at work Code Black. its not like how season 1 was where it was just kinda mediocre, dealing with virus, flu, and when things invade your body, etc. this is dealing with more ADULT theme, thus why the first..episode it shows a women with large bust and alot of cleavage. also it addresses STD, smoking, and things that are happening to your body if you arent taking care of it properly. hence, the adult theme of Cells at Work Code Black.

    "Fun" fact: the term gonorrhoea was first used by the noted Greek physician Galen to refer to it as an "unwanted discharge of semen". Whether he misunderstood the fluid or was just being... polite... is hard to tell.

    When they say “He shouldn’t be having sex when his resistance is so low” I could be wrong but I believe that is the first time any cell has shown any awareness that they are inside a human body. The regular Cells at Work show/manga has the cells completely unaware of that fact, they even treat heat stroke as a drought or weather phenomenon.

    No not at all. In both shows they constantly talk about how they're in a body. They do it more in Code Black because the show focuses on health effects that are preventable and not just bodily functions.

    It is clear later in the series that the cells are aware of being in a body, but most of them are unaware of what exists outside of the body or why the body may choose (or be forced) to do certain things that aren't in it's own best interest.

    Yep. In Canada we use Ceftriaxone 250 mg IM (intramuscularly) as a one time dose along with Azithromycin 1g PO (By mouth) in a single dose. Azithromycin preferred because we assume patients are co-infected with Chlamydia. We use one time doses because patients can get odd when told they have an STI and are more likely not to come back so we give them one time doses so even if they don't come back we know their infection is being taken care of.
