Doctor : Effects of 'long COVID' mean sufferers qualify as disabled | CUOMO

While there's no precise definition and over 100 symptoms of "long COVID," Dr. William Li says it's definitely real, with effects difficult enough for sufferers to be considered disabled under federal law.

Two hours after getting the Pfizer shot, my 14 year old daughter had severe numbness in legs, arms, chest, a feeling of being paralyzed... I made a video about a year ago... High blood pressure, very high BPM at rest. Extreme tightness in chest and difficulty breathing. Since 7/15/2021, four emergency room visits, three different hospitals and she was diagnosis with Costochondritis (inflammation near the heart, feels like being stabbed in the heart), for about 6 months she cried everyday because of the pain...We filed reports on the CDC website, Vaers and the Pfizer website and no one has reached out.

As an ME/CFS patient this has been so hard to watch. We knew this was coming. Every ME/CFS patient and doctor raised the alarm the minute covid emerged. We have been begging for LC incidence to be one of the primary measures of the pandemic, and our data on prevalence is still sketchy. Not all long covid is ME/CFS, because covid causes some specific damage. But the neurological symptoms of long covid in particular are identical to the symptom cluster we call ME/CFS, which can follow many other viruses. Long covid research has reproduced the findings of ME/CFS research at every turn- brain shrinkage, hypoxia, mitochondrial dysfunction… We have been treating post-viral illness as psychosomatic for decades, just as we have treated every other poorly understood illness before it- diabetes, cancer, MS, fibromyalgia... There has been very little research funding, because ME/CFS is not taught in med school, and by and large treated as hypochondria. We are decades behind where we should be in understanding the causes of post-viral illness (although we have a panoply of concrete pathological findings to describe its effects). I hope for the sake of all of us the current crisis makes it even more obvious that just in financial terms investment in research makes sense, let alone the tragic human cost. This illness is like distilled suffering- it is a living death. It prevents you from doing even the things you previously found enjoyable. Doing a jigsaw can be like climbing a mountain.

@@JonCurtin He did not take the vaccine; he caught the disease. People who have not been infected are smart to take the vaccine to prevent things like this. He just was exposed too early; in December 2020-February 2021, the winter before vaccines were available, COVID-19 killed 241,000 Americans in just three months, making it the #1 cause of death in the US for that time. For comparison, in a decade of war just over 38,000 Americans died in Vietnam. That many died of COVID in 2-3 weeks during the first non-vaccine winter. The question is actually: why did you _not_ take the vaccine?

The biggest issue with “long Covid” are not the ones left disabled. It’s the larger number who continues to work and live their lives, but do it while not feeling well. The “working wounded” need help, but many of us can’t afford to get it. And all the issues in the United States with so many who lack health insurance, lack something as simple as paid sick leave just make it worse.

Omg you said it, Genevieve!! I missed Chris Cuomo on TV, so much!! I was kind of upset at CNN, because they seemed to just "yank" him off so darn fast!!! And yes, we knew he had some familial issues going on; but personally, I never thought any of that should have made him lose his career there!!! There could have been so many different ways to handle those situations!! He was their top journalist/reporter! I sent 2 letters to CNN after that. Chris is so excellent at his job, and so many of us rely on his work and how much he cares. It honestly really bothered me, for months. Then, I guess, I started hoping we'd all hear from him, sooner or later, in some respect. But that feeling of not knowing how long til we'd hear from him again, or if he would hopefully do more public reporting, just got me. He has an excellent personality, esp for reporting on the current events, and we could tell how inquisitive he was/is, and it just made him so good doing the news events. And he has such an awesome sense of humor!! Maybe the big wigs at CNN and some others may not have liked when he had his brother, Andrew, on his show, but I LOVED it!!! Esp back when the Pandemic was just beginning, and most of us were all home, and omg when Chris had his brother on, and he poked fun at him, showing that mega big cotton swab, acting like Andrew would need that size due to his "so-called" big shnoz (nose)!!! LOL!! I thought it was hilarious with those two. And in such a scary time back then, we sure needed some good old-fashioned humor! And those two brought it! Sorry for going on and on, whoever may be reading this lol, but I am so happy Chris is back! And it's really interesting too, because I've actually been watching News Nation more & more. I just love Ashleigh Banfield, Dan Abrams, Marni, they're all wonderful. And now, Chris Cuomo!! And I really love that they want to just report the news etc, they're not going to be biased towards one ideologue. That's what first got me hooked on them. And I swear, Fox News, is just Trump central anymore! They are so disgustingly biased re him. Even with all he's done!! Trump needs to face the music already, on many, many counts. So thrilled Chris Cuomo is back! And I love his new ideas & plan, for his new show there. Thanks so much, News Nation!! We've got to help you all grow!🔊🎉🎈✨️🥂🇺🇲

@@flagmichael until we know the exact way this virus acts on vascular tissue(it’s proven favorite tissue) and how that further impacts neurological illness…it can also affect nerves via vascular means. So, it harkens to those who I’ve seen with PPS(post polio syndrome). It’ll be interesting to see how the number of autoimmune disorders become associated with this. I had to depink the thinking of many physicians when I developed inexplicable symptomology. Took 30 years but we can trace my autoimmune start point after a viral infection(now believed to be Epstein-Barr). Reading the journals is like watching a flower open in slow motion!

Thank you for highlighting this major and global issue; under-reported based on the excuse that "our Covid worries are mostly gone" I'm texting from Japan. Everyone here still wears a mask all day, methodically clean their hands with alcohol, soap or just water (readily available at entrance in any location), only take their mask off to eat or drink in a restaurant etc. but quickly placed back on when not eating but talking. 80% have had their 3rd shots; moving on to 4th. Yet Japan is still recording over 20,000 new infections per day, which is unacceptably high. Most will be fine in a few days, or just asymptomatic. But amongst the 20,000, some are or will suffer long-term with Long-Covid; messing with their lives and future. Tragically some may die, daily. (I feel) attitudes & messaging on Covid-prevention should no longer be about protecting ourselves-only from suffering; but also about protecting the minority who might suffer because of our conscious or unconscious Covid-prevention carelessness or laziness. This attitude in Japan has clearly NOT got things righted or sorted. However, Covid is NOT over, so we ALL have to do "something" rather than blocking our ears, averting our eyes and excusing ourselves of our own daily personal responsibility. I am not trying to preach from a soap-box since I am as guilty as the next person in terms of my carelessness; however believe need to reboot our thinking and micro-actions.

Sidelined me last July after 30 years of Hospice and Dementia specialist caregiving. Delta break through infection. I already had a serious genetic connective tissue disorder. Knew I would die or get this. No choice but to work or end up on the streets. I did anyway. Ended up houseless luckily friends took me in for a bit. Waiting on disability and wondering how to live on 750.00 a month. Don't get me wrong I have been working poor my entire life but I still don't see how I can manage on my own. And I am one of the lucky ones. Have friends and family who have returned all the love that I gave them and others over the years. I May be entirely disabled now and broke but I am never bored. Have a roof over my head and clothes on my back. Elder caregiving it doesn't pay much. Or have benefits. I really miss my people. It wasn't just a job for me it was a Avocation not a Vocation. I worry for those still living in facilities where 47 % of the deaths occur even though less than 2% of the population lives in these Prosons for Profit called Nursing homes. So many of us quit died or became disabled. We don't know. Elder caregivers we are valued so little they don't even bother to count our bodies properly.

So glad you are back Chris! I've really missed your nightly program.. I pretty much only watched the other network for your show. Which I don't watch anymore now.. I stopped when they took your show off thevm air. It just wasn't the same. Sadly Direct TV doesn't have News Nation unless I upgrade to one of their very expensive plans which I can't. They won't let me add just News Nation Either. Same with the other options. I'd watch News Nation every day if it were included in my plan. CNN is in all their basic plans. News outlets reported your show didn't pull in that may views. Its not for lack of people who want too. Its because News Nation isn't available for most. Id have to pay 35 to 65 dollars a month more in any option just to get one News Channel. Most people just can't do that. Best wishes for you Sir!! Great Job!!! I do miss your telling it like it is though!! LOL...

Thanks Chris for bringing in Dr Li shedding some light to effects of covid. I'm fully vaccinated and boosted. Contracted covid last August. My smell and taste senses are not back. Food to me does not taste like it should be. I could burn paper or food or something and won't smell it. But please continue on bringing in more medical professional to continually inform us. Thanks again for your show.

RIP indeed.I have read recently that one theory why the poison has not effected more people is because they have not kept the vials at the correct very low temperature which destroys the ingredients that are killing and making people ill. This was also a concern for the Europen Medicine Agency before they gave emergency use authorisation ,along with particles of something else contaminating the vials.

@@annetaylor7496 It is hilarious because there is no such thing as "covid".There is a new corona virus SARS-CoV-2 that causes an illness just like any new respiratory would do. The word NEW corona virus is important because "covid" was first used as early as 2015,before this was even talked about. There is also a well known thing called viral fatigue that effects people when they encounter a tricky viral infection.
