He's a borderline HOF candidate arguably. but Not quite .mitch was what u would call a 4star type player out 5 but on below 500 win teams .but he was a cut below superstar status but a cut above the average starter and some Allstars at his position in his era...IMO

@@oren615 true and TMac was like the face of the league along with Iverson and kobe for a few yrs but he could never get out of the 1st round in his Prime however he was that dominate in the regular season and seeped his way into the HOF...

If MJ says, that you were a problem, than hell yeah you should be considered one of the greats.

Arguably true considering he didn't have to always dunk and play above the rim to dominate. He had a solid floor game could post and iso somewhat off the dribble and wet outside shot way before he even lost his hops.

It’s funny how jordan played a hall of fame career with every minute being just as meaningful as the last and yet his assessment is objectively dog s**t. I don’t agree with his assessment on Mitch not being a HoF, but dont pull the “you never played an nba game” card.

Sac never put anything around him so he did what he had to do. He put in work with scrubs all around him and he wasn't padding his stats cuz he was tryin to win every night. Over 20k points multiple All Star and All NBA nods and a Gold Medal(I'm not even gonna mention his ring ok). He was tha 3rd best guard in his era. I guess what I'm tryin to say is.....hes earned his spot in the HOF 👑

I watched him at the time he played and your assessment of his game and career is off the mark

If ur too young to have watched bball at that era u can never understand. The ball was going inside every possession. And it was the guards job to clean up after the bigs got their shot up. I loved Mitch's game he was called the Rock for a reason, he was tough phisically, he would have been an earlier HOF selection if he wouldn't play for sactown for this long, where he never got a second banana

Jordan said he was the second best guard next to his airiness in mitchs prime. He was a 2 way player often times guarding the best player on the other team. If he was milking stats he could have sat back on defense and gone off on offense only. But he chose the hard road and chose to compete. Mitch is a legend out here in Sacramento. We love him way more then white chocolate and c Webb or bobby Jackson.

i def think he's a HOF. Dude was the 2nd best shooting guard in the 90s behind MJ imo. He was on that 96 Dream Team that won the gold and was a major piece. He played good defense, i think it's just that the management for Sac didn't surround him with a good supporting cast.

I think it’s funny how some critique Mitch’s HOF status, in regards to his time in Sacramento... Mitch was a baller. I’ve seen it first hand... I was at that game when he hit that half court shot against San Antonio... he had the respect from the League and his peers. That, plus his career numbers, is why he’s in the Hall of Fame!

Respectfully I like your series but this not even a debate about him being in the HOF! Warriors did that man wrong.

Dude was easily 2nd best shooting guard to MJ for years. If not for playing in that era with MJ and in a small market for most of his career he was nothing short of amazing.

Mitch Richmond was a beast with the Sacramento kings he made 6 All-Star games over his career he won a championship on the Kobe Bryant and shaq los angels Lakers team. As a 36 year old. Mitch Richmond in his rookie year he put up 22 points per game 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. I have no issue with mitch Richmond being in the hall of fame.

Mitch Richmond was a perennial all star. It was unfortunate he was in poorly run teams in Sacramento and Washington.

Man, Mitch Richmond was a baller. He left it on the court every night at both ends and the other teams knew it, thus the respect. It wasn't his fault he played for bad teams . Sure, he might have stayed in Sacramento for the $ but hey, he gotta get paid and that's the way it is. When he got traded to the Wizards for Webber. What if Sacramento could've come up with a way for them to play together and putting that team they had around the both of them showing the man "we trying to work with you". Webber was the main piece in DC . When he left that left Mitch with nothing. It was like the east coast version of Sacramento but worse . It's up to management to make that happen. But Mitch just kept Ballin and doing it well. And he never complained about it or threw his organization under the bus. For the reasons you mentioned, would Chris Bosh been a hof'mer if he stayed putting up #'s in Toronto if he hadn't went to Miami, And he like Bron started that whole chasing the ring thing . Mitch didn't lobby to go to the Lakers at the end of his career just like he didn't lobby to go to all those other places and just kept Ballin. And like his whole career he went where he was told, they wanted him . And Kobe/ Lakers just like Jordan knew the kind of baller Mitch was . Still the Lakers roster & rotations was already pretty much set. He was insurance that they didn't have to cash in. Could he have put up better #'s with more minute? Hell yeah, no doubt cause even at that stage of his career Mitch could still score the ball that's what Mitch does. He was a shooting guard version of Bernard King he was gonna find a way to score and did it well. And now he's playing for a team with players around him not since his early Run TMC day's that had happened. The Lakers couldn't give him no more minutes than that but knew he was there. Yeah, he was on the end of the bench but hell, someone's got to be even at the NBA level. And just like his whole career on bad teams he didn't complain. Now he's finally on a good team unfortunately at the end of his career but fortunately playing for the Lakers. And we gonna stunt him for that ? NBA fate & business put Mitch on those bad teams he shined so bright on and it was that same fate & business that put him on the Lakers in the end. Naw dawg, hard work, consistency, the will to keep grinding under those conditions but most importantly staying healthy. Mitch was pretty much a machine had to be to do what he did on bad teams game in game out knowing you were all ya'll had and the other teams knowing it as well . Knowing that the game plan every game was to stop you and even though they lost a lot of games they didn't stop him and rarely got blown out, they were competitive. He just kept Ballin at a very high leval night in night out.. He earned and much deserve all that finally came his way. And for those reasons I feel Mitch Richmond deserves his ring and to be in the HOF. Kenny Smith said Richmond was the 2nd best Shooting Guard behind Michael Jordan. Mitch Richmond also gave Sacramento momentum before their early 2000's run.

Days with the Kings I think he played for the money of course, played for himself, his own stats, for his own all star selection but was never known as a winner. Didn't try to find ways to be more successful. Not winning as a team but himself was in a comfort zone was good enough for him.

Before Kobe, and Wade, Rock was known as 2nd best SG behind MJ, so with that being said, he's HOF material. People can try and dismiss him if you want, but ask MJ himself, and he'll tell that Mitch was it.

What I have been hearing since the 90's, before Kobe and Wade popped up, and that is that Mitch Richmond was widely considered the 2nd best Shooting Guard behind MJ. He never had any real help and always had to be the piece that was given up in order to actually get Hos Teams some Talent. If Mitch got to play with C-Webb Peja and Vlade, He would likely have gotten a Ring with Sacramento as the 2nd Option and not had to get one as the 4th or 5th Option in LA. Now, he's basically Clyde. A Guy who was a Star who couldn't quite get over the Hump as the Main Guy and had to join up with someone else after His Superstar Days were behind Him to get His Career Validation.

wait...you certainly don't mean top 5 ever. I won't even address that. But if you mean he was a top 5 SG thats also erroneous. a 3x all nba second team, and 0x all nba first teamer? In an era with MJ, Drexler, Kobe, Magic, Penny, Iverson, Kidd, Reggie, Dumars, etc...even JUST SGs you have to put MJ, Kobe, Clyde, Kobe, Dumars ahead of him. He was a great player but he's in the Reggie Miller tier of great players which is no where near top 5 at his position in that era.

The kings as a whole have been a horrible organization, except for like a five year stretch from 1999-2004 with Webber, Bibby (who I believe got there in 2000), Peja, Divac, Hedo, Doug Christie and co. Geoff Petrie and Rick Adelman really knew what they were doing, but from like 2005 to now, that franchise has once again fallen into irrelevance. Don't they currently have the longest playoff drought in the NBA?

Mitch was traded for size from Golden State. He didnt ask to go to a bad team. He was a talented player on a under performing team. Why is this a debate, Mitch was a problem and a bonefided HOFer

The only shooting guards that you can say that were better than him in the 90s were Jordan and Drexler. Definitely should be a Hall of Famer but I’ll admit that I’m surprised that he got in. I thought him playing on bad Sacramento teams would have been held against him.

He was an efficient shooter across the board so the 20 shots a game thing isn't really that relevant of an argument.. dude was nice at every stop.. it's bad enough he played on sucky teams.. at least give the man his flowers and let him rest in the hall of fame

100% yes he deserves to be in the HOF. He was considered arguably the second best shooting guard in the NBA after MJ in his prime. Guys like Reggie Miller got more hype, but he played on good teams with good coaches like Larry Brown and Larry Bird. Richmond played on some trash Kings teams after he got traded by the Warriors (which started them on their two decade run of mostly mediocrity).
