I have bought a 330d estate (14 reg) and was very impressed straight away. Now had it mapped and it’s kicking out 477 lbf-ft. Very quick but it’s the endless and smoothness of the torque which is mind blowing! Superb motor! 👍

My f30 335d is xdrive, but the front axle only turns on when the rear wheels spin, most of the time it rwd. Its a weapon on launch! Does need the Eibach lowering springs though. BMW crippled it from new so it didnt show up the M3 in damp conditions. Love mine! Best car Ive ever owned.

Had similar decision to make recently between 430d or 435d (which is only available in xdrive). In the end I ended I went for the 430d. Once off the line and moving I felt the performance difference was marginal between them (especially when compared to likes of an M4). It was the xdrive that ruined the 435d for me though. With the SE suspension it sit higher, making it less sleek and had noticeable more wollow about it, plus it is heavier. For the same price I’d have had to get a car with about 10-15k more miles on clock as well!

I originally had 330d and loved it, but didn’t have xenon’s or nav etc, very basic spec, remapped to 300+ - fantastic car. Then got 335d saloon never appreciated the softness, then got a dog and second kid announcement - ditched to 330D xdrive with adaptive suspension - that was the best all rounder, with all the options. Then got an F80 M3 - loved it for 3 years, but 150-200 miles a tank, I’d had enough. Just gone to 335D touring, did 250 mile journey on Thursday night, fullllly laden 42mpg averaging 57mph…. The biggest issue, that wallow, over drain or pot hole you feel it loose grip, it doesn’t like that one wheel loosing grip. Should I get Ebach springs and just tighten it up a bit, thoughts???

I'm a fan boy of the 335d of course as I had one and it was a beast of a car. But I agree with you on the Xdrive, it's not great in the older BMW's. The new Xdrive system is very different and alot better now, as I've found out on my current car. 335d is faster but you always find it hard to find one with alot of kit on it, compared to the 330d and they are always alot more. I need to upgrade because of ULEZ and its now or never with my insurance expiring so I guess I can lay down 16k to 22k for a used car, I usually contract in London central but I found a way to park north london and take the tube into central so daily commute would be 20 miles each way down the M-1 and parking in brentcross, Usually most of my contracts are based in London for now i got a WFH job first time ever but likely hood is worse case I'll be doing hybrid to london or 5 days a week. Now i did want a S5 but I am A not a hardcore car fan boy but im 43 and thinking is it worth going for a high performance car for once in my life, or ideally an element of good mpg and nice car. any suggestions please? I went up to a 335d with Msport + (better brakes and extra kit). Completely different driving experience and the torque seems limitless. The engine notes are better - fake but sportier. I loved the rear drive slidability of my previous car, but those opportunities were fewer than the opportunities the 335d gives you for fun because you can destroy A-roads with so much more confidence on corner exit. Get off the gas and the nose tucks in and settles and as soon as it does you mash the throttle and it bites at all 4 corners but still slips a little at the back. You can do this over and over. Not so with S-drive - and much more scary. And then there’s the sheer straight line speed and overtaking ability. Compared to the 30 it’s another league. The adaptive dampers are a must though and they’re rare. I live in London with lots of speed humps - otherwise I’d lower it a bit. It’s the Swiss Army knife of cars, the 335d touring. Does everything - and nothing badly. But it’s ALL about that engine. Sometimes I just smile to myself thinking about it. I’ve been lucky too - 38k miles - 1 sensor issue is all in 8 years from new (I’ve had it 4 years). I had choice of the 330 touring with lots of goodies like pan roof, leccy seats etc or fairly standard 335d. No regrets. At all.

Interesting video, thanks for posting. Had my 335d x drive on an18/68 plate for almost 4 years now.Golf GTD 65 plate manual before that.Got sick of gear changing in heavy traffic and fancied a fast auto so bought this one.Ex demo with 5K miles for £27k,so it was a no brainer back then. Before the madness set in. It's quite a spartan spec.Only Estoril, rear camera, sun protection glass, foldy mirrors.Standard music system is pretty poor.Had the wonderful Dynaudio with the Golf.Maybe i'm spoiled. It's wonderful in a straight line.Supercar overtaking performance.Wallows like a whale in the bends.Quite rubbish really.Getting away from roundabouts and junctions is quite something else.It just takes off,no wheel spin,no lag.Like a catapult really. One of it's best features. Getting about 42mpg with all sorts of daily driving.Still on it's Bridgestone runflats.Don't half feel the potholes with them. It hasn't missed a beat.Front pads, brake fluid and an Adblue change coming up in September. No reason to punt it for something else. PS.Have you seen the price of used Beemers recently?.Just crazy money.Offering me £21k to trade mine in for a 70 plate m340d at £40k.No thanks......

These tyres are expensive so when I did the rear ones last year set me back 340£ and front ones were around 260£ 2 years ago (goodyear labour and new valves included). Personally I would rather have the RWD 330d, but would try and find one with the larger brakes as fitted to the 335d. I found the standard ones are a bit marginal once the car was mapped if you press on a bit. The 535d is also another good RWD option if you can put up with a slightly larger car. The build quality inside is a bit better on those too.

I have a 67 reg 335D X Drive. The standard OEM brakes are absolute naff. I've not quite got the 3 grand budget to fit a big brake kit but have bought front and rear EBC Yellowstuff pads which are a lot better than the standard OEM ones and highly rated. Once they are fitted I imagine it will transform the braking of the car. At the moment my parents 68 reg F48 X1 has better brakes than my 335D and it produces nowhere near as much BHP or Torque.

The stock 35d felt a bit underpowered and boring coming from a stage 2 f30 330d but even stock the 35d was faster to 60 and 1/4 mile. Stage 2 in the 435d is a bit of a weapon and rinses the likes of tesla model 3 performances, golf r's and amg a45's etc where the 330d wouldnt have a chance off the line. Its a traffic light stormer and the fastest diesel ive ever had. The 330d did feel more enthusastic when cornering and the steering and thevway the 330d pulled its nose into bends was lovely. 435d rolls a bit and requires me to just throw it in and hope xdrive does its thing.. All in all i prefer the 35d xdrive. Ive got plans for the larger turbo and fueling to be upgraded so i can break the 500bhp magic number and it will he staying with me for life. F10 M5 probably on the cards for something a bit more spicey and that rwd feel to razz about on nice days. If youre considering either a 35d or 30d, id try them both and had no regrets either way. The real difference comes when you drive them. The 320d is very good for doing 70 on the motorway and a bit more economical, cheaper to service etc. The engine idle though is horrible it sounds as if will break apart any minute. There is nothing wrong with it it's just the way it works. The 330d even if stock is a completely different league - the torque is very good and if mapped becomes ridiculous. Last time i'd pulled away and got to my exit before the car behind had even crossed the stop line. I know people slate the X Drive but the way it constantly puts the power down is the key point.

There's a reason why they're X drive too, which ties into why your mapped one is a handful at times. If you can't easily feed in the power then you don't enjoy the drive, so you need extra traction to compensate.

Hi mate I agree if I had x drive it would launch a lot better however in the dry it’s fantastic to be fair I love my 30d I respect what the 335d is and how it performs ..the price of them is high but people will argue the performance justifies the price 🤔

@@330dfam when you say 'people' you mean people who already paid the higher price 😂 Joking aside, there are always pinnacle models in any range that owners look up to with misty eyes and respect. I can imagine launch control would be face-melting in the twin turbo (they were in the E92 anyway) so if I lived in the city of (traffic) lights I'd probably be daydreaming too. Then again, leecy cars have got the drop on everything now so it's pot luck if you like your 0-40 racing 😆

When I got my 330D remapped I can see why 335Ds come with x drive as standard. Needs it for that amount of torque haha. Love how a remapped 330D feels though. Like you said, definitely need to respect having that much torque under your right foot, but loads of character just being RWD. Don't regret it for one second getting a 330D though. Found a fantastic specced one locally last year for a price I couldn't say no too, bar a few additions I could make myself easily i.e. M Sport brake upgrade. Would have been hard pushed to find a similarly specced 335D but got my 330D exactly how I want it now.
