i went to my local fish shop about 15 months ago, there was a small copperband and they were feeding the tanks,it went nuts eating all of the brine etc out competing all of the fish in the small tank.i have had about 3 copperbands over the past 30 years they are indeed a finnicky hard to keep fish...but i bought this fish due to its behaviour ,i have a 300 gallon fish only tanks with mainly angels but its now doubled in size and looks stunning doing great..so you can find tough easy to keep copperbands

Great info! Very cool…yep I trained mine in a similar way to eat Aiptasia..Before I purchasing CB I had started keeping Aiptasia’s manually removed from the sand and kept them growing in a jar. When the CB was in QT observation tank (20gal section of my sump) I made an “Aiptasia smorgasbord” by crazy gluing a few Aiptasia to a piece of acrylic and placed it into my Qt tank..I sprinkled some coral frenzy on them to encourage him to eat them..and one by one they were gone. After introducing CB to my display…I’ve yet to see anymore of those effing buggers!! Besides this - he’s also got such a great personality, has become my family’s favorite reef friend. Cheers 🍻

That’s one fish that I have yet to add to the repertuar of my fish keeping abilities. I haven’t been struck with the fancy to purchase one although I’ve had the chance to many times. Also as Gabe mentioned that was a great opening line along with the “great gusto” line. I love hearing phrases that you know but don’t always hear. Just puts a smile on my face 😁 Thank for the upload and Great work as always!!! Thank you for all your hard work!!

Had a good one in the early seventies, was very god at competeing for frozen and live mysis and brine shrimp, finally sold him back to the shop with the other fish due to pressure of work and time away from home, causing neglect of the tank by which time there was so much algae on the glass you could hardly see in! I would say you were spot on with chosing a really healthy feeding fish.

A trick I've heard works is feeding fresh clams that have been cracked open then once they readily eat those save the empty shells and fill them with frozen food (mysis, brine etc.) the fish will develop a taste for those foods then will eventually accept them regularly. They also tend to go after blood worms. Masstick by easyreefs is another great option that my copperband loves I've had him for almost a year and he's doing great.

Have to say I was pretty disappointed in my local pet shop. I’m newer to saltwater fish and some of the questions I was asking certainly had to give the workers at the store an idea that I didn’t know whole lot about them. I have a very basic saltwater tank coral beauty couple of Gobbi‘s and a couple of clown fish all of which are doing great but I did buy a copper band about a month ago tried all different things to get it to eat nothing would work I even took it back to the store they told me wouldn’t take it back. He ended up dying About four days later. I’m not planning to buy from them again

Mandarin fish are easy to keep but I strongly recommend not keeping shrimp or any other type of goby that are quicker at feeding. Most deaths in well cycled tanks are a result of poor tank mate choices and gradual starvation.

The puffer took months to recover. I know this video is about a Copperband but I’ve heard similar stories of butterflies carrying crazy ass diseases and just coming in unhealthy since they are so delicate. If I ever get another butterfly it will be a copper, but buyer beware

With the ones I have had you can get them to eat bloodworm and then wean them onto other food. Tried this a few times now and it’s worked every time. Bloodworm is similar to their natural diet. If you then start adding LRS, mysis or Brian shrimp for the other fish these fish get the idea. You then start reducing the bloodworm. I agree with the don’t get one that emaciated and damage to the mouth.
