    I learned this many years ago when I was shaped by my ISP for downloading beyond my bandwidth monthly limit. I played CS:Source and my pings were no different although I was shaped to 256kbps speeds lol. I cannot wait for the 3rd video in this series, I have beef jerky in one hand and something else in the other. :D

    but thats just partly true, faster internet usually gives a better gaming experience since the ping becomes better when upgrading from a copper ADSL lane (16k) to eg vectoring (100k) the herz on that lane is much higher reducing the ping, same for when you go with a fibre lane over a copper lane yeah for most people the difference might just be a few milliseconds, but for people in rural areas the difference can be a huge overall great video with excellent diagrams though!

  • @netduma

    @netduma

    That's great when it does happen but some people can upgrade and the ping will be unaffected unfortunately. The speed is a by-product of the improvement of infrastructure but the speed itself isn't improving the quality of your gaming. Thank you!! :)

    It does not matter what kind of wiring you put in the ground lols. If you are still super far away from the server your ping will still be trash. That just improves download speed.

    This is a great video thx. But I do have to add the bandwith must play a role in ping. I was gaming via ethernet cable and was staying at 150 ping in COD. I noticed windows had a notification that said I hadn't set my bandwith settings so I let windows automatically set it and my ping instantly dropped to 70-90ms.

    Hi I'm playing Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 on PC via wired connection and I have 2 questions: 1. Does it support this game? 2. Does it support direct link (via IP address) optimization? What I mean by that is can I enter the IP address of the game server and the DumaOS will automatically optimize my connection by lessening the server hops / shortest path to the game server?

    I saw the same thing for at&t and they said you needed at least 100mbps of download speed to game. The reason why it's less laggy when you get faster internet is because, it gets the download done faster so who was ever was downloading an hour long YT video it would lag your game for about 1 minute then for the rest of the hour it would be done downloading at they would be watching the video, but the more people that come online and keep starting new uploads or downloads it would lag more of the time, so getting faster internet does help a little but not much. I live in a area where you can only get 3 mbps download and 0.5 mbps upload at the most, I was wondering if I bought your router sense my games take up only 1/8 of mb, I could make a setting that would make sure my computer gets least 1/8 mbps download and 1/32 mbps upload. The reason why games hardly take up any bandwidth(Using League Of legends as an Example) they just have to send in the information where your character is currently at and what time you used your abilities and what abilities you used. If you calculate every thing you find most of the stuff only takes a few bites rather where videos take up way more internet sense they have millions of pixels to send over the internet witch takes up a lot of MB and the faster it downloads the video the more bandwidth it uses. So for example your watching a video in 720p that is 1,280 x 720 pixels = 921600 then you have to count the 60 fps so 921,600 x 60 = 55,296,000 bites/1024 = 54000 kb/1024 = 52 mbps per second. There can also be some compilers that make the file smaller. Thats why video takes of more internet if anyone was wondering. Sorry for my spelling mistakes or grammar I am only a 13 year old that likes math and loves gaming. PLEASE REPLY LOVE YOUR COMPANY YOU THINK HOW I THINK!

    Not as of yet as far as I know. 4K needs around 15-25mbps of consistent download so you have a significant safety net of extra bandwidth. The faster the sources connections the faster you can download in theory.

    Hey netduma. I have a 1 mb download and 0.50mb upload. I usually get 2-3 bars in call of duty. My ping is averaged around 15. Will the Netduma R1 help me get a 4 bar using the geo-filter? Is there any other features that may lower my ping? I get a weak 3 or 2 bar during the day and a solid 3, late at night. I'm looking into buying a net duma but I'm not 100% sure that it will help me. Thank you

  • @netduma

    @netduma

    8 жыл бұрын

    Hey, you have quite a slow connection but you do have just about enough to game on. The Geo-filter will get you those close games so the ping will be lower. Congestion control will prevent anyone in your home impacting your game, when you have a speed like yours that's very important. Hyper traffic will prioritise your gaming traffic. You'll be able to have the best connection possible.

    I am assuming you don't have the Netduma? As that wouldn't be an issue. Wired doesn't get priority over wireless or even vice versa. It is more likely due to the fact that those devices are using bandwidth intensive applications that is causing you to lag. A normal routers QoS might take the edge off but not very well. Our router was designed for this very purpose and can eliminate it & give you the best connection possible.

    I still see people saying "I have 1 gigabyte per second and it still takes 10 seconds to download 1 gig worth of stuff" 1. It's 'gigabit' when you're referring to bandwith 2. 1 gigabit is equal to 1/8 of a gigabyte so it would take 8 seconds to download 1 gigabyte with "flawless" internet 3. Even if you pay for 1gbps you are most likely not getting it, unless you use Ethernet you won't get full potential with you're internet, you'll most likely get 300mbps which is still 275 more than the national average so quite whining (for those who do)

    Some parts dont make alot of sense though. Some parts he says "So adding lanes wont help" I get for the internet part that makes sense but all the others parts not really. Adding more lanes means more place for cars. If there are 2 lanes and 1 car can fit on each lane. That means a 3rd car will be queued. But if there are 3 lanes that car will be fine. So how does adding lanes not help?

  • @netduma

    @netduma

    7 жыл бұрын

    It is just an analogy. A normal download will go as fast as your internet connection allows - whatever that may be. A game only needs a specific amount of bandwidth - it is not transmitting a huge amount of data. Even if you have a 1000/1000 connection a game will use the same amount of bandwidth as a 1/1 connection would. So in that case if the amount of bandwidth isn't an issue then it is then about the speed that it reaches it's destination - ping. That's why ping is the most important.

    I constantly hate black ops 3 because my connection for the game is bad the ping changes a lot and it's on a 3 bar mostly but when it's on a 4 bar it's still laggy.. A lot of people in my house uses the Internet but even when there not it lags my ping is like 30 or 40 rarely below that... I'm buying a netduma soon.. Will it make my ping better ? And have good hit detection on point ? I can't take the lag anymore and it's not even the kinda lag that skips it's where you shoot and the bullets don't register.. You shoot first and die, making it longer to kill people then it should I hope the netduma will solve it I just want clean and fast connection and a very good ping idk how to use the netduma but I'll look it up

    Question, I had a 6mb download connection last year and when playing cod online I was fine 4 bar everything great but when someone used KZread which demanded as you say more download speed my ping was massively effected it would sky rocket to 200. I now get 85 down and don't have this problem could you explain that?

  • @majormasingil9961

    @majormasingil9961

    Your highway is wider with 85mb down so the youtube traffic is moving through faster. There is less opportunity to create the huge lag spikes like your previous bandwidth . when you were at 6MB you basically had a one lane road. The youtube traffic caused a traffic jam because your road was much more narrow. I bet if you ran ping plotter while you're gaming and while others were streaming youtube; you'd see fluctuation in your ping corresponding to the DL of the videos. You're probably still getting lag spikes. They're just not as drastic or long lived as before.

    If you only stream, no it's not worth it, but if you are gaming and others are streaming then H-E to the double L YES it is! I've owned one since last July. I have a ton of devices on my network. The level of control you get over your own network makes it worth it. They have this new feature called Hyper-traffic. It's killer. It puts all your gaming traffic automatically at the front of the line going out and coming in. This along with all the other features make it so your home network does not introduce lag into your game. The thing you need to remember though is if you're connected to a dedicated gaming server, you can't do anything about the other people who connect to that server. If they have really bad connections, everyone's games will suffer. There's nothing anyone's router can do about that.

  • @netduma

    So if you look at the graphs gaming doesn't use much upload. You have plenty to game on if you were on your own. The problem is the local congestion you're having. Depending on how many devices are using the internet higher speeds would be more beneficial for you. Otherwise your best bet is to use something like our 'QoS' to eliminate that congestion.

    OK so technically if I have a 1mbs down and up connection as long as I'm not using any other device besides my console for gaming my ping should stay low, the only reason higher bandwidth can be better for gaming is so downloads finish quicker thus interrupting my gaming connection less. just want to make sure I'm not being mistaken here. (sorry for asking so many questions) Does a fiber line affect your ping in any way? why does playing on a hotspot completely destroy your ping? does playing at peak times (when everyone comes home from work) affect ping and why should it? do other devices on 3g/4g networks interfere with your own hotspot network? sorry for all the questions again it's just I really need to know these things, if someone could answer or refer me to an answer it would mean a lot (and btw great video, thumbs up + sub :)

That is basically correct. you still get a little lag, but it won't last as long or be as drastic (sorry for asking so many questions) Does a fiber line affect your ping in any way? You can have low ping on fiber or copper, the main culprit that affects ping in this situation is how many subscribers the ISP jammed into the same equipment it's using for your service. They call it congestion...it's like a traffic jam on the highway. why does playing on a hotspot completely destroy your ping? if you're talking about a phone hotspot, it's because your packets have to go through all the cell towers and then into the internet to get to their destinations. it's a much longer route does playing at peak times (when everyone comes home from work) affect ping and why should it? yes, more people equals more packets on your ISP's equipment. It makes jitter in your ping speeds. They are fluctuations in the speed of your ping. This actually causes more lag than having a steady but higher ping. Say you're normally at 20ms for your ping. At peak times you could be a 20 ms for 1 second then the next go up to 40 ms then drop to 25 ms then go right up to 45 ms. This because of all the other traffic on your ISP's service clogging up the freeway. This makes it hard for the game's servers to compensate for your variable speeds and is a root cause of lag rage quitting and broken controllers. do other devices on 3g/4g networks interfere with your own hotspot network? This would be similar to the peak time ISP congestion. If your mobile phone company has a ton of other people using data connections it can slow down your network, but if you're talking about other carrier's networks, no they won't interfere with your packets. sorry for all the questions again it's just I really need to know these things, if someone could answer or refer me to an answer it would mean a lot (and btw great video, thumbs up + sub :)

I wonder how smooth gaming would be if everyone had my connection :)

    Then that means your old speed ran over coax with an old modem. That's why your ping has dropped now, your router is directly wired into the ONT which is like being plugged directly into a fiber line rather than going from fiber to copper.

    That's exactly what I said, Verizon internet speed of 75mb/s or lower uses the COAX cable and the Ethernet cable but the Netduma guy said it doesn't matter anyways. I know he knows more than me but I don't know what he means by using a better line because I think the're were still using the same cables that goes from the ONT to the street. @@thesamedufus2012 that can cause by numerous problems. depends how the game designers. in this case rockstar. have created the whole game. inside areas are often not so demanding on your PC then outside areas for example. But rockstar ported the game to pc from console. which they did an excelent job at. but its still a port with lots of flaws. if they would have made i direct pc port. then you would have not this kind of high frame drops. i guess is its because it is a console port. and also your pc itself. i dont know your specs. so for me at this point its only a guess. but generally speaking ports are never that well optimized. whether its a good port or not.

    @@metalvideos1961 This issue takes place on any hardware. I've used multiple computers. They all have this issue. K i7's clocked at 4-5 GHz paired with 1080 ti's with high speed RAMs. Same issue. Sure GTA is a port but I'd just like to know what is to blame. Even playing on really low graphic settings doesn't make a difference. I want to say it's not what's being rendered on screen that is causing this issue. It's the combination of what each person is doing in the open world that is causing it. Just rendering in 20 people is going to cause the fps drop, no matter if they're way off screen. And then on top of that, what they are doing is going to cause even more fps drop. Like say if all 20 people shoot RPG after RPG at the same time, fps is going to drop insanely. This is what I think anyway.

    high speed internet usually lowers ping, lower ping is better for gaming, not a myth. high speed internet usually reduces packet loss, less packet loss is better for gaming.

    I have nobody else doing ANYTHING in my household and I still get around 1 mbps consistently and I'm disconnecting from games almost as soon as I get in them also including my whole internet crashing. My internet even ran at 29 kb today and all the speedtests crashed when I tried to use them somebody kill me.

    Well that sounds like your ISP is the issue there. That's a very slow connection but besides that it should not be getting degraded that much. Call your ISP and see if you're able to resolve it.

    I tried calling them but they refused that Speedtest.net isn’t accurate and urged me to take a Speedtest while connecting my computer to the modem. It turned out the same result, and they still insist the internet is fine when my package is supposed to be 8mbps, my ISP sucks.

    Unfortunately it's one of those issues where you need to push them. Once you get an engineer to your house they'll see the issue and should be solved from there.

    i have 512 Kbps is it enough for online gaming ?

    If that is upload then yes it is enough. If you have other devices using the internet at the same time then you would have congestion/lag when playing. With the router you'd be able to make sure your game is always prioritised.

    Okay then you might have a bit of trouble as that is on the cusp/lower than what modern online games require.
