I play bass in the praise band at my church. Sometimes the music director asks me to improvise a bass line in an interlude. I can't begin to improvise. I have to take it home and study on it, noodle it out and practice until I can actually do it. I can spend an hour or two on four measures before I am ready for Sunday morning. I knew there was a pentatonic scale that could help me but I did not know what it was or how to play it. This video will be a HUGE first step in being able to add some fills. Thank you. Thank you.

Hey Carol I’m so glad that this lesson is helpful to you. The Major Pentatonic scale is great for fills and improvising. Look at the minor pentatonic scale as well so you have more options. It’s great that you’ve got the praise band to try things out in.

Happy to help! Once you do make the connection, you start seeing Pentatonic patterns everywhere in bass lines!

Brilliant, thank you! Pentatonic was a mystery to me, you're making it very easy to understand. When you know a lot and someone new knows nothing, it's very easy to assume people know what you're talking about ...you don't make that assumption and it's very helpful. I'm also clueless about what major and minor notes mean....a suggestion for a video? Anyway thanks I'm really getting a lot out of your videos!

Thanks so much and I’m glad that you like my teaching style. If we are talking about minor 3rds, a minor 3rd is 3 frets up from the root note. A major 3rd is 4 frets up from the root note.

Can we have a video on muliti octave scales and arpeggios. Helps to move around the fretboard

You’ll find multi octaves in this very lesson. That’s the idea of stacking the box shape - to get more than one octave.
