I’m Italian and Greek, and I’m a very fair olive. Foundation was a nightmare until recent years. The new About Face foundation in the fair olive shade is super close, just a tad deep for me in winter/spring. But still wonderful to see brands coming out with shades for us! It’s like Kermit says, “it’s not easy being green” lol 💚

It's definitely not easy being green 😅. I was just trying to use a shade finding tool for foundation a couple of days ago and it asked if I was warm, cool or neutral. Where's the 👽 option!?! Most brands that realize olive is a skin tone think it only exists in medium to deep complexions.

Please do a video all about OLIVE! I am a pale Olive, and have spent a fortune on foundations that are close, but not quite. Olive is starting to appear, but more for the medium to deep shades, while Pale and Light are still left to add blue or green to our foundation - messy and ridiculous if you ask me.

I so agree with your comment 👏🏻 yes more olive choices are starting to appear but hardly any for pale/light olive people like me 😅 I’ve done a couple of series trying to find foundations that fit into the light olive category and the sad part is that eventually the good ones I find get discontinued 🥲

@@LeadmareLibertad- I think not many people know much about olive undertones. I only recently discovered that lighter complexion skin tones can be olive! 😮 Like mentioned in this video- I thought it was only applicable to those with a Middle East or Asian descent. I know of a handful of high end brands that offer olive shades. However, when it comes to the drugstore… you have to just go with the closest yellow undertone foundation. 😔😵‍💫

And to make olive undertones more complex, you can be a cool olive or a warm olive. Despite what foundation shades lead us to believe, not all warm olives are medium to deep. I have literally found ONE foundation that exactly matches my skin, Urban Decay's Stay Naked Foundation in CG30, and of course they have discontinued it. 😢

Ty Marlena for shouting out olive undertones’ lack of representation! There’s esp a gap to bridge w us light olives (brands treat us as if we don’t exist), so that blue corrector x warm foundation hack’s so good. Your paper test is so legit and I was able to understand my undertone in comparison to others’ and foundation swatches (all shades in my complexion range were either too gray, too pink, or too peach/orange). To my fellow green people: look for that gray/green (or khaki as Marlena said) and know not each olive is the same-some are very yellow olive (like me), some pull more gray. If you find people ask if your unwell/jaundiced bare faced, you’re more than likely in the olive gang!

Please... More about light olive undertones!!! How do I choose the right mixer to adjust a concealer & foundation without messing up the formula (LA girl, Temptu S/B adjuster, Kryolan, etc)?? How do I color correct if neither pink nor peach seems to look right with light olive skin?? How do I select the right bronzer & contour shades??

The problem with most foundation brands is they really don’t cater to people who are truly cool in undertone. They can label something as being cool but nine times out of 10, I can’t wear them because they are way too yellow on me. There’s one brand that has always done true cool tones right and that is the cover girl. True blend line.it’s the only brand that offers a true skin match to me

I have never ever found a foundation match until recently. I always had to buy two shades and mix them together to get the right shade. I live in a small town, so I couldn't get shade matched. One weekend for our anniversary, we went out for a day trip, and this was my chance to finally be shade matched. To my surprise, I have olive undertones. Shocking, I never imagined a black person can have olive undertones. Since finding out my latest foundation purchases have been wonderful.

Olive undertones can be warm-olive, neutral-olive, or *cool-olive* . There are also northern Europeans who have porcelain skin that have olive undertones. Any skin color can have an olive undertone: porcelain, fair, light, medium, dark, deep. Next there is muted/desaturated and bright/saturated. The options are: * bright warm-olive undertone * bright neutral-leaning warm-olive undertone * muted warm-olive undertone * muted neutral-leaning warm-olive undertone * neutral bright-olive undertone * neutral muted-olive undertone * muted neutral-leaning cool-olive undertone * muted cool-olive undertone * bright neutral-leaning cool-olive undertone * bright cool-olive undertone

I'm definitely an olive/neutral, but I'm light skinned. I'm definitely not golden or cool. My coloring tends to be more tan even though I'm super light. When I was a kid, my skin was much darker than it is now. I think olive skin tone gets missed a lot because people assume, to be olive skinned, one has to be dark skin. This is just not that case.

For years, before knowing I have an olive complexion, I would add a tiny bit of blue pigment to warm foundations. I had no idea I was actually making a slightly green tint. I just thought I was “making my foundation a little neutral but not too neutral”. Sometimes id accidentally add too much blue then I’d add more yellow pigment. I face palm whenever I think about it. After I learned about olive fair to light complexions and how to color correct. Did it finally click that I’ve been doing that for years without realizing it 😅

That is what I am and beyond having finally found a foundation match- I have no idea how to pick colors so I stay realllllly basic with eye makeup and blush (I usually skip it because a lot of colors look awful). I have confounded a couple of makeup artists at Mac and Sephora.😂😂 when people think olive they think of the more golden olive- that tan really well. I always enjoy your videos- I think the blush demonstration was effective and demonstrated what you were saying.

If you’re a cool olive, you have yellow and blue in your undertone, but more blue than yellow, so, in my opinion, the colors that would look better on you would be those that contain yellow and blue but more blue than yellow: cool browns, cool greens, cool burgundies. Also, colors containing red and blue (cool purple) can look good on cool olives. You also need to check if you’re muted or bright to see if you need a muted or bright variety of those shades. I hope this helps! 😀

I have vitiligo...turned completely white, including my eyelashes and eyebrows, my veins are blue/green...very warm, tan easily.. Now? I'm cool tone, had to lighten my hair from black to medium brown...it took so long to figure stuff out for me

What does it mean when cool pink blushes turn warm and peachy on my skin?

I am fair to light, my veins are blue and I like to wear silver. But I am definitly not cool toned. My face is more neutral-warm but definitly warmish. Sometimes I feel my face looks green. I heard that body and face can have different undertones. Still I am not sure if I am doing things right :D

What about if you have a cool undertone (I am what they call a cool winter as assessed by a professional colour analyst) but a warm overtone (Mediterranean skin)? Would you match then undertone or overtone when buying foundation???

I don’t even know if this brand is still a thing but back in the early 2000s, Sue Devitt was the most incredible line for olive and other hard to match ethnic skin tones

Hi, question for the under tone. I have a lot of yellow on my but also some red., if I choose a warm undertone it looks to orange on me but if I choose a Neutral it looks a little pink. I always have a hard time with choosing the right undertone. What do you think I should choose as an undertone . Please help me.

I can't help to think that instead of categories, it is more like a spectrum in my experience! I have very obvious green veins and looks better in gold jewelry. Quite certain I gravitate towards warm but not too yellow, instead it's more like warm-neutral. If that makes sense?

I wear Santa Fe in NARS Light Reflecting Foundation. I feel like in the summer it's a little light. I'm not sure if I'm a neutral or cool.

I’m 61 and I finally have enough information to determine I am indeed a cool undertone. Thank you Marlena

Where have you been all my life? I’ve made EVERY makeup and hair mistake in the book! This video was SOOOO GOOD, and helped so much! I have ashy dark blonde/light brown hair with no red at all. It lifts very quickly to white blonde. I have blue eyes with a darker limbal ring on the outside. I usually use a neutral shade of foundation (mostly around my nose) because I have some ugly red from rosacea that drives me crazy. The information you presented makes me think I’m doing at least SOME things right, and I’d like to apologize to the world at large for having to look at me all those years I tried to wear RED hair. I look back at pictures, and I think YUCK! I think red hair is BEAUTIFUL-just not on me! Thanks again! 🌻

Yeah, I got a blue color thing and now my foundation work far better. It is nearly impossible to get an olive foundation that isn’t tan or darker and I can those when tan but I haven’t tanner in years so…

I have a rosy/peach undertone. I know, because so many foundations, concealers, setting powders, and bronzers look way too yellow on me! That being said, I can wear all hair colors (and I for sure have), every kind of eye makeup, all kinds of blushes, and clothes in every color. I have had extremely cool hair for years, and now my hair is a light copper/strawberry blonde. Only things I have to watch, are the foundations, concealers, bronzers, and setting powders. Then I'm good. 🥰 Love and light from Denmark,Scandinavia ❤
