ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.
At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine or in person if you're in the Lexington, KY area. We find a lot of undiagnosed prediabetes or insulin resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like prediabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

Is it even worth asking my doctor for this test?

Good question. You can get it on your own if you want.

Great question. When I asked my doctor for a CIMT test after a CAC score of 227, he said that I didn't need a CIMT test because I hadn't had a stroke or heart attack yet. If I really wanted a CIMT test, I would need to pay for a consult with a cardiologist because my insurance company wouldn't pay. I said no problem, I would arrange a CIMT test on my own (and did). It was one of the best health decisions I ever made. So, yes ask. Don't take a no to mean that you don't need it if you recognize that you have significant health factors.

Many studies state CIMT does not improve on the predictability of the Framingham Risk Score.

yup - this CIMT topic is (the first) one of your videos that I can't make it to the end of - thinking maybe you should briefly state at the beginning what Cimt is so we don't have to look it up - pleading guilty to being a little lazy. Anyhow I am on an inflammation kick here and am forming an opinion that high heart rate is a great indicator. Also that HR is most significantly influenced by salt - potassium balance and that most people are WAY out of balance. So my conclusion is that perhaps the easiest way to treat inflammation (and arterial disease) is simply by maintaining your electrolyte balance constantly throughout the day - what do you think?

Todd did mine! Questions, how often should you get one if first one is like mine 3 years younger than my age?. Also can you still have a heart attack with a zero score? What are the odds?
