Do You Hate A Speculum?

Do you hate a speculum?
A speculum comes in many sizes and types, metal and plastic.
It is used by the gynecologist during the pelvic exam to to
see your cervix and vagina and to help collect the pap smear, which is the screening test for cervical cancer or to collect cultures of the vagina looking for infections.
Is there an alternative? There was a study out of Duke University in 2017 with a possible alternative.
Funny fact, on our review day in our office, we use speculums for team competition known as "egg retrieval" game!

My first Hpv test was a traumatic experience for me. Almost a year has passed, and I’m still scared. I think my pelvic muscles are really strong and tight: plus, I’m dry as a desert 🤣 The position I was in was very uncomfortable (I was lying down with my legs open), and, having never used a tampon or even my fingers, it wasn’t pleasant at all. If I could go back, I would ask the nurse to let me adjust to each step, instead of doing it quickly and non-stop.

I've only seen a one size fits all speculum and it's metal. Don't they realize women are different sizes and we all don't give birth or are sexually active. I think it should be manditory when this procedure is performed to have different sizes available and show the patient what you are using. It feels like I'm being collapsed from the inside out!🤔🤨😬😖😯😱😪😭
