JBL has such a rich history. I've seen many pro studios, (not home studios. Like, real pro studios with fully treated rooms, that are actually designed for world class artists), use these monitors. They are an absolute steal for a home studio. And are made very well. Highly recommend them.

I LOVE these speakers. Use them every day for Music and Voice Overs. My client roster expanded wildly after this upgrade. Big step up from my M-Audio monitors.

@@mythical106 same here. I bought a Y-cable(trs to 3.5mm) and bought a trs extension. It worked directly connected to my PC. Later I bought an audio interface. It has worked great for gaming, watching movies and listening to music. The audio quality jump from my shitty speakers was huge.

I use these just as my computer desk speakers and I think they're great! I have an external dac going into a preamp/headphone amp that outputs to the speakers with XLR cables and it's a great budget option for good sound.

audio interfaces are extremely good today at the $199 price point (and higher) Even some for $99 AND $149 are pretty good. The Focusrite Scarlett range is pretty popular, and Presonus has some good stuff in the lower price ranges. Or you could go the Evo 4/8 route - really whatever interface fits your needs and budget

I'm on a hunt for new monitors. I kinda grow out my sweet little M-Audio AV32. I'm looking for something solid workhorse but don't want to break the bank. Would you recommend the JBL over the Presonus Eris 4.5? Or what is your general thoughts on the Presonus monitors? Thanks!

I haven't personally used the PreSonus Eris so I can't say anything about the sound. But the 4.5 Eris and JBL 305P are constructed much differently. For the Eris 4.5, they are made more like traditionally computer speakers. One speaker is plugged in to a wall outlet, and connected to the other with speaker wire. They have 25 watts per speaker. The 305P do not connect to each other. They are self contained monitors with their own power amp - both have to be plugged into a wall outlet in other words. They have 41 Watt HF drivers and 41 watt LF drivers (82 watts total). So they should be able to get louder than the Eris. The Eris 4.5 have a frequency response of 70hz-22k, while the JBL 305p go from 43Hz to 24kHz, so you should get a bit more low end from the JBL. Keep in mind, I HAVE NOT USED THE ERIS - I'm just going from the specs. If you want to step up to the 8" JBL (they are $199 each) you'll get more power, and more low end since the speaker is larger, which is true of any 8" monitor, not just JBL. It all just depends on your budget, what you need, the space you have, etc...

How to control volumes of two JBL 305P MKIIs simultaneously without a discrete audio interface? I know that the rising UP/ lowering DOWN the computer system volume isn't the best practice at all... So, what is the proper solution?

They're very good actually. Very flat response. This is only used for monitor your audio but you need to be at the TRIANGLE to the speaker. The bass was good too.

Hey i plugged this straight into my laptop as well as a sound card and i hear NO bass it almost sound blown but occasionally i will hear the sub. how do i fix this, the speaker and cords are brand new as well.

These are reference monitors that produce a flat sound. They are supposed to be used when mixing and producing music. Not really for movies and video games.

Thank you for the video. So wait, if I have no option but to have them really close in front a wall but with like 5ft space from a corner on one side, what should I set the boundary EQ at? I know they need to be further away from a wall but I have no option and I didn’t treat my room yet, so as you may expect all the low end sinks in about 4 - 5ft away behind my mix position, the mix position is already about 3ft away

You don't have to use the boundary EQ. Just experiment with it. If they sound better with no EQ use that, if it's better with -3 use that. Every room in different.

Hey, I'm considering a pair of these for my Sound BlasterX AE-5 sound card. Your video says to use a TRS connection, but would it be more appropriate for me to just use a TS connection, as the line output of my AE-5 is unbalanced?

These kind of speakers are meant to be used with a sound interface and exclusively for music production, they are not meant to be used daily for watching videos or playing games, they might sound worse than a normal speaker as those speakers are pre-balanced for everyday use. Unless you don't listen high quality wav/flac music, they don't make any sense.

@@RodriFUT98 Studio Monitors are not going to sound better to everyone. Maybe an external DAC like Wolfson wm8741 can solve the way it sounds. These are supposed to tell you how the recording is and could highlight how well a specific DAC is. The old winamp sound equaliser for PC music source could solve it for ordinary folks who are not discerning about recording or mixing etc that professionals are worried about. There are remedies. But if it merely about accuracy many could potentially hate them or not find them warm and natural like their cheaper bookshelf speakers made for everyday listening with V shaped sound.

​@@OtisAdonisChadI own the LSR3O5P and I am blown away by them. They don't lie. I hear music that sounds great and music that sounds horrible and I need to EQ it, sometimes with no improvement of the "message" I am trying to hear. The fact that they do not lie is why I like them. I know if an artist is legit. Some really good artists just suck in the studio though and these will let you hear it and know it. It's a personal endeavor that is satisfying and lets you start having true favorite musicians and groups because some come across really harsh and off sounding. It's not the speakers I promise.

Plugged in to the MOTU M2 They sound great but not very loud.

i have these in my bedroom but i cant get a good sound out of them. any advice?

No. I also use a power conditioner. If you are getting loud hum you probably have a ground loop somewhere.

@@YannGuillermou yeah, the hum is there from the woofers, you just gotta get really close to hear it different from the high end hiss.

You can also do xlr to trs for these correct?

Yes. They have XLR inputs and TRS input. The interfaces I use all have 1/4" TRS outputs. But if yours has XLR, you can go XLR to TRS or XLR to XLR.

As mentioned the Guitar Center group is the only place that sells the white ones. So, Guitar Center, Musicians Friend, Woodwind Brasswind would all have them.

There should be no noise when powering ON. Sounds like you may have dirty power/ground loop issues. You could try a power conditioner. Try plugging them in to other outlets and see if the same problem exists.

Yep. Sweet deal for $99. You'll be surprised at the amount of low end these things have for being relatively small speakers.

@@ferruizmusico8126 I saw on a different youtube video that once you plug a good source, the hiss goes away. That video also showed how they hiss when a cable is connected to the JBL but not connected on the other side.

@@ferruizmusico8126 I had this problem with these same speakers. The source was my desktop's screen. Yeah, the screen was generating some interference on the wall outlet both were using. I had to get both connected to different wall outlets in the room. Make sure that your speakers have a good quality power supply.

Hum and hiss from monitors is usually an electrical issue, interference, ground loop, bad wiring etc... try a power conditioner if you can't sort the ground loop issue.

Assuming your PC sound card has a 1/8" stereo output, you would use a 1/8" stereo to dual 1/4" cable. Something like this amzn.to/2LCZqdr

Just bought a pair of these and they definitely don't suck, think they sound absolutely fantastic 😊👍 I have them connected to a Yamaha tyros 5 and a computer, and am just very happy with them 👍

I bought the 8 inch and they even sound better!

For $400 US you should be able to get 6" monitors, but other countries may add a VAT - so you'll have to consider what else you could get for the same amount of money.

You need something that can either output TRS or XLR, and interfaces do that. They'll provide a cleaner signal path than your computer and also give you the option to record if you ever wanna get into that. There are some cheap Behringer interfaces that will do the job quite well.

Uhm, I don't get why you switched the +4db over the -10db control. Apparently the -10db gives you a lot fuller range going down at 43Hz while the other cuts at 49Hz. In case you want to make bass-heavy music at E to G# tonality (which are the best sounding clean sine wave subs), you need that extra range to monitor those frequencies.

I didn't. I'm plugged in to a professional audio interface so I use +4. If you use consumer gear, switch it to -10.

I want to buy those monitors but I heard that they have loud hiss. Is it really loud? Is it irritating? Maybe someone could recommend other monitors in this price? Cheers

If you are hearing hiss you probably have a ground loop, dirty power, bad audio cables, interference, malfunctioning output on your audio interface, or a bad monitor.

No hiss at all. Use balanced cables. Using with line 6 pod go. And sounds fantastic.

no i have both and yamaha is next level , if u want produce or mix jbl are speakers not monitors , the bass is more in the jbl than the yamaha’s but sounds like a fake bass not flat, the yamaha are more mid and high and they sound amazing. My recommendation take a Yamaha hs 7 or 8 not the 5 , i have the 5 and are perfect but with less bass.

@@juanmar910 I don't get this. Why bass should sound flat? Yamahas simply sound awful. It's a poor/anemic/thin/metalic sound. It's worst than airplane earphones. Of course bass shouldn't shake the windows, but it has to be present. Too much bass is bad as no bass at all.
