Recognize the face at 3:00? Yes, it's Tatiana Troyanos long before she left the US to begin a major opera career in Europe. NYCO Soprano Patricia Brooks is in there too.

Wow, I can understand every single word and pitch! Hopefully I'll be able to actually sing Allegri's Miserere in church on Easter too, and not have anyone tell me to squeeze it out instead.

I had to quit an operetta production company over this nonsense. My light lyric soprano was to loud for their liking as the other voices were extremely weak. In the in house recording if it wasn’t for my voice you would have heard nothing from the chorus. Even worse in a section for both the men and women’s chorus I was the only voice to be heard in chest voice. I assure you my voice isn’t that big

@Marius Borgen Right?! Even when I sing ppp my voice has developed a bit more than my peers and am always scolded BY my peers for being too loud or vulgar when all I'm doing is covering the sound, clear vowels and my voice sticks out like a sore thumb and even when everyone is singing FFF I have to sing mf because of my voice

Too bad. Is like everyone is forgetting that singing is a release of the soul through voice, instead they seek to restrain it.

@@caseyfranco3959 I've been told that I sing too louly all my live. I hadn't even started to develop my chestvoice properly until last September lol. I guess I won't be singing in church anymore since they wouldn't be able to handle my new developing voice.

Opened mouth is not a panacea. Even Garsia wrote that too much opened mouth depresses larynx and ruins palatal dome. For right school singing the mouth must be opened just as much as it necessary, not more.

A thumbs width should be minimal. It really depends on the person. A nice oval vertical shape is desired. It helps keep the sound more pharyngeal. It depends on the singers physiology and pitch sung. Or even a vertical rectangular shape is better. This will keep the palate high if the singer needs it. If you want more of a dome you can show a little top teeth. A developing singer should open the mouth. A developed singer can be more flexible and decide what is appropriate. The soft palate should raise while singing but it is also dangerous to over raise it. It will depress the larynx. Most people doo too much. They keep this high position while singing. I don't ever remember this Garcia quote. If you raise the palate the larynx lowers. So I cannot see how a depressed larynx would come from a lowered soft palate. A lowered soft palate will create nasality and neutral type vowels. In this case, I really think it is better to go for the right sounds than to manipulate body parts. Many people do not open their mouth enough. You can hear the vowel does not fit the mouth shape. And you cannot sing loud and full with a closed mouth. I find most students sing with a mouth closed because of constrictive forces. And they make very nasalish type sounds. Opening the mouth also helps place the vowels at the back of the mouth and forces the tongue and the throat to act functionally better. The set up like the foundation of a building is important. Thanks for the comment.

I find that most young singers have NO concept of how 'open' an 'open mouth' really is....

3:52 Either I'm feeling it that she's singing in a weak voice and trying to thicken it up or either she naturally has a contralto voice. Please correct me if I'm wrong over here, It's just that I'm very much used to of the golden age contraltos so forgive me for I mean no ill intention to offend her

This is a dramatic soprano. Contraltos sound darker (way darker in fact) than this even without modifying their timbre (which opera singers undoubtedly do).

Her vibrato is quite slow which gives the impression of forcing the voice, but apart from that she sound great.
