Your entire set up is bad ass. Mine is based on yours with a few cheaper changes like cinder block. But I am installing same water system. Yours is probably the nicest set up I’ve seen

Awesome video! I feel like the big KZreadrs and breeders of rare plecos, spread rumors like this to try to make it seem really hard to spawn them so less people try to be honest.

I think for many it is difficult, but their issues are rooted in other factors such as poor water change schedule, inadequate bio filtration, immature or wrong sex fish, etc

when i grow up i want to be a pleco

Hey Foisy Aquatics, what would you say is the proper male to female ratio when it comes to breeding L046? Do you drop your PH level with leaves to ignite spawning triggers?

I do nothing special to trigger the spawns, just leave them be and let them do their thing! Very good question regarding the male to female ratio, and one that I don't actually have an answer to yet to be honest. I'm still figuring it out myself, but I personally like 2 males to 2 to 3 females in a 20G long.

Nice information. Thank you. Do you let the eggs hatch and fry grow with the parents or you move the eggs/fry to breeder box/grow out tank?

Let the eggs hatch but then immediately move the wigglers from the cave to a floating breeding box so they don't scatter all over the tank and I can easily move them to a growout tank eventually

Great video, I have 14 zebra and I split the groups. One with 3 males and 4 females and the second group have 4 males and 3 females. I’ve had two trapping attempts but they still a little young.

Almost exactly ten years ago I bought 9 zebra plecos with the goal of breeding them. They have been in a 40 gallon breeder species only tank with just rocks and pleco caves (bare bottom) for that entire time. To my knowledge they have never bred. I would like to get them to breed. So any advice would be appreciated. Also I'm curious about their lifespan as mine are about 10 years old and to my knowledge I only lost one fish (3 months after getting them). They are in 40 gallon breeder with two Aqua clear 70's on either end of the tank. There are 3 air pumps feeding a sponge filter and multiple air stones. Temperature is around 82 c. I have never done a water change and just fill the evaporating water every couple months. I've also never cleaned the tank as the Bio load is so low (8 zebras in a 40 gallon). I also stopped adjusting PH as my tap is consistently about 7 but I do condition the water. I really hope there is still a chance of breeding the. A part of me just hopes one day that I will see babies in the tank but I admit that I rarely ever see the fish at all even though the tank is in my living room.

I would bump up the temp to 84F and definitely start doing water changes. Only topping off can leave a lot of pollutants in the water as those don't evaporate with the water. See my recent video about which caves work best for zebra plecos. I have heard that they can live 15-20 years!

50% water change every day for a week should do the trick

What is your temps & water parameters you chose not to talk about it but I'm sure more than myself would love to know.

Temp is 83F to 84F, pH is usually right around 7
