Do I Freeze my Butt in the Outhouse? // Est-ce que je me Congèle les Fesses dans la Bécosse ?

Ойын-сауық

How do I keep warm in the winter? See more about my wood stove and my outhouse. There is no bathroom in the cabin but I don’t mind this and it was a choice on my part to live this way.
PS: I do get some words wrong in English as I am French and French is my first language. I try the best I can 😉
A bécosse is a term used in Canada to designate the outdoor latrine use that existed there at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century
Comment rester au chaud en hiver ? En savoir plus sur mon poêle à bois et mes toilettes extérieures. Il n’y a pas de salle de bain dans la cabine mais cela ne me dérange pas et c’était un choix de ma part de vivre ainsi.

That makes 2 of us, disabled that is and I love your videos, miss Snow and you! My question is, how do you light your cabin so when it's dark outside, you can still see when moving about your cabin? I worry about your stairs not having a rail on the open side. That it for me. BTW I'm 72 and I admire you so much!

When I went to Japan one of the most interesting things was the heated toilet seats. They keep your buns warm for those late night visits. A solar powered one would be great for your outhouse. Bun maintenance is important.🙂

I love that woodstove, and your aunt & uncles double one they are amazing to cook on!🥘 Q… What are some of your favorite things to do at the cabin …living alone? Q… How often do you fill the propane for the fridge/freezer- what is that tank capacity? Q… Do you let Miss Snow hog the bed? 🤍 Q… What do you want for your birthday? 🎁 Much love to you both!! I look forward to the Q&A!!! Can’t wait to hear the questions you choose from everyone!! 🩷🐕🌲🔥☕️🐴🐴🎁🥘🐈😘

A Christmas Poem for Lisette: In the woods of Ontario, where pines stand tall, Lisette resides, a ravishing beauty to us all. With golden hair that dances in the breeze, She exudes strength and talent with such ease. In English and French, her words take flight, A linguistic expert, pure delight. Off-grid she dwells, a resilient soul, In nature's embrace, she's reached her goal. A source of inspiration, a guiding light, Lisette's spirit, shining bright. Through woods and snow, her path unfolds, A tale of courage, as winter's story is told. Her resourcefulness, a skill so keen, A portrait of strength, a sight unseen. Ontario's wilderness, her chosen stage, Where she thrives and inspires, page by page. So here's to Lisette, a Christmas cheer, In the heart of the forest, far and near. May joy surround her, as snowflakes gently fall, Merry Christmas to Lisette, the most beautiful of them all.

My question is, "How did you get so pretty?" I love the outhouse tour. That vent makes a big difference for sure. You do have a great wood stove. My house is 170 years old and I too need to warm it up a bit to get the dampness out. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful life with me. I just realize I've lived alone for 30 years now and don't regret even one minute of that time. Thirty years and seven dogs have given me happiness. Have a great day Honey, Barefoot John. xx

My dad had black bear come in his cabin, he stayed in Alabama for winters and in home country Canada Nova Scotia during summers. They had a fancy antique wood stove with nickel trim with oven and bread warmer she baked bread did all her cooking on that thing even though they had a modern stove. I loved that stoved loved going up there to visit them. So they came to Alabama for the winter and on their return to Nova Scotia that spring found that a black bear broke in drank all the can milk cream, peanut butter, jam, and send all the rice sailing across the floor! My dad thought it was funny, my mom not so much. The cabin was build on a slope, so the back side was about 12 -15 feet off the ground! My dad made a wrap around porch which was nice to sit that high off the ground with a nice view overlooking a brook down the slope a ways. So later that summer, ole bear came back and was making a mess in the garbage can outside. My dad took a 12 x12x12 stuck it out over the corner railing with a small counter weigh on the porch side and the garbage can out on the other end. So from the can to the ground was around 12-15 feet drop! The front of the cabin was closer to the ground about 3-4 steps so ole bear he comes back that night comes up the steps round back climbs up on the 12x12x12 and proceeded to the can which his weigh over took the counter weigh and down a howling he when with can clacking the God awfulness noise after the bear tumbling down the slope with 12x12x12 shortly behind banging the tree limbs as it fell. My dad said thaT ole bear jumped the brook in two leaps and never stopped. I like you talking about your wood stove brought back good memories of my dad and his adventures he was 65 at the time moma will be a hundred years old this Jan 14 so yeah was fine memories when they where in their young Sixties thanks

I had two COBRA stoves made in Goodwood, Ontario. Excellent stoves with amazing variable speed fan system, which helped keep my solid fieldstone house warm & toasty. In terms of cleaning the creosote off the glass, I used a razor blade or when cool, Windex & paper towel. I would use between 5 - 7 bush cords as the stoves were going 24/7 during the winter months. Now as far as peeling eggs, that's another chat. Merry Christmas

Grouse are beautiful, they remind me of little turkeys with that tail. Excellent table fare (don't mean to offend anyone). I am 64 so I get up to tinkle frequently. Having an outhouse wouldn't work for me. I would be stumbling in the woods several times a night and I would fall on my derriere. Catastrophe! My bathroom is safely located outside my bedroom door. You have great personal style. It's amazing. Apporter de la magie aux masses.* *All french thanks to Google french translator. I was forced to take French in high school but being a rebellious type of person who doesn't like to be told what to do I never tried very hard to learn the language.

An average of 8 "face cords" a year? that's not bad. You must have your cabin snuggly insulated. I use about 5 full cords in a cold winter, but my cabin is 1800 Sq.Ft and I'm a bit further South than you. As you know a full cord measures 4ftX4FTX8Ft stacked and that's tightly stacked. As the old saying goes, stacked close enough for a mouse to get into the cracks but not the cat chasing it. I keep about 20 cords in the woodsheds by the time the snow flies. I am in awe of your resourcefulness and ingenuity. You have a lovely life by your own making, that's something to be very proud of.

I have an Elmira Stove Works cookstove I’ve had for 45 years now. I use 1 to 1 and 1/2 whole, 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, cords per year. Mostly for cooking, because I utilize passive solar heating. Which takes care of 70 to 80 percent of my heating needs. I took care of my out house cold butt problem by using a regular wooden or wood composite seat and keeping it behind my wood cookstove which is also in the sun in the winter and I just carry it out with me. Sometimes it was surprisingly warm. After many years I had the money to put in a septic system and a flushy. But if the water pump fails, the out house is always ready for use. The gravity here is pretty reliable.

Just a little food for thought, you could put a 100 watt (upto 5 amp) solar panel on your outhouse roof, connect it to a Kettle element via a charge controller, then put the kettle element in a bucket of sand. Hence creating a Sand Battery. The resistance across the heating element stays the same and they work on AC or DC, a 2.5kw kettle at 240 volts ac would have the resistance of 24 ohms at 10 amps, so at 12 volt d.c the element will draw 2 amps. Free energy charging a Sand Battery that you can then put one of your heat fans on top of to dissipate the heat!

Sorry, Sand batteries are my thing at the moment, you could heat a small metal bucket of dry sand on your stove and take to the outhouse first thing, this simple Sand battery would hold the heat for several hours.

God has rewarded up by filling up our nearby lakes with fresh water. Wishing you and family a Merry Christmas. Big warm hugs and kisses to you and Miss Snow. 🤗😘🍷🥰🍩🍪

Ah, the eternal question all off gridders must face., how to prevent... exposure , as it were. . Back in the day I think they used to hang the , uh - seat , over the wood stove to keep it warm so the initial seating, was not so frosty. Styrofoam also is a great ... comfort, on cold days The eco fans are great, I have one as well. They really help circulate the warm air. If you can find them, they make heat disapators that go around the stove pipe to help recapture some of the heat that otherwise goes up the chimney. Great to see you settling in for the season and happy first day of winter my dear🍸

Hi Lisette Lovely video ❤ Totally your choice on what questions you deem as valid by your own personal criterion. You're not a commodity. But you are a one-off and that surely fascinates and intrigues many who tune in to your channel. Thanks for what you do share🙏 I love catching up with your adventures and your positivity is a gift for us, in my opinion. And Miss Snow is so gorgeous and cute! Merry Christmas to you both and your family 🍁☘💕🐾🐕🎅🎄

I think you were searching for appropriate questions, that darned English as a second language 😂 I lived in an A frame cabin in the 80's for a year a couple miles from the base of Mt Robson, Canada's highest mountain in the Canadian Rocky mountains, I did have running water and septic but it did freeze up for about a week in the middle of winter which forced option B the outhouse, it was a cold snap and I will say you did make sure everything was ready to go and you didn't doddle before making the trek in the morning 😊

Hi Lisette:). So good to see you and Miss Snow today! I love ur wood stove ~I must have told you that many times in the past! Nothing like a wood stove when it’s 20 below zero and you have to open the front door to let some cool air in!! Your outhouse has to be the most efficient and well designed, made with that special stone flooring you acquired some time ago. It also has touches of decor to make it very cozy and interesting. My only question is where do you get your beautiful clothes from but I understand if you gave up that secret it would take away from the mystery! I watch ur channel for ALL the content but the fashion is my favorite ❤️. I want to wish you and Miss Snow the best Christmas ever with many more to follow. I am such a fan of you and have much respect for ur lifestyle. You are strong and can tackle any project but on the other side you are so caring and sweet and so beautifully feminine. All that put together to make the very special 💎 that you are🤗🙏😊 Sending lots of love and hugs❤️😊❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Julie xo

Good morning, Lisette. Beautiful video. The answers to peoples' questions were great. I used to have a similar stove, different manufacturer and 2x the size, had an oven in it plus the outlet warmer, and yes used to defrost in it. You and Miss Snow have a wonder full day, and a great Christmas.
