For audio that is bit streamed from a player have you ever heard a difference in players? Was it a double blind test? If you didn't hear a difference what is the biggest feature you personally look for in a player? Build quality? HDR tone mapping for a projector? Something else? Glad this was put out there that the audio is identical for HDMI out. Even the analog out with the higher end DAC has limited potential because if you're using it in a home theater, most receivers will digitize that input to pass through room correction and bass management so it's kind of pointless in that regard. Seems only useful in 2 channel setups as Channa mentioned.

I have an Oppo 203. I use the device for CD and Blu Ray. Curious if one uses the SPDIF output to an AVR for CD is that a better digital path for music than using the HDMI coming into my Blue ray HDMI input which is for movies?

Does anyone know if I should use the HDMI audio only output on my LG 4k player for my Vizio M series 5.1 sound bar, in order to get the best sound quality? Or is HDMI eARC from my TV pretty much as good as it gets? I'm not sure if I would be able to hear the differences.. or is audio out only HDMI on Blu Ray players mostly for an av receiver/amp set up?

Does Dolby Vision from the lowest end panasonic bluray player matter if my TV supports Dolby Vision?

So the 400, 800 and 9000 series, there is no difference in the HDMI sound quality?

Is the Panasonic 4K Blu Ray player still about the best or is there another one better?

The structure of the build (part quality) affect the overall result.

When i play a backup from a Nvidia Sheild with Kodi VS a Disc on the Bluray Player, the Bluray Player has better sound, like more dynamic , why is that ?

I’ve had the 820 and the 9000 and the 9000 has better audio and video quality. I had all the HDR and audio settings set right on both of them and the 9000 and had a noticeable difference side by side. Maybe it’s because the 9000p1K is an updated version combined with better components, disk drive and newer than the 820. Even if they have the same video processor a lot of the times companies will not unlock the full potential or the consumer doesn’t have a reason to buy the model twice the price that makes them more money. I’m not sure but Panasonic did not make the $500 4K player as good as the thousand dollar 4K player. I’ve been confused why people keep saying that ever since I compared them. It’s definitely not just a build quality.

Well, if the DAC is better on the player, you would set the player to PCM instead of Bitstream.

Whether the player outputs bitstream or PCM, it's all still output digitally via HDMI, so there's still no DAC involved in the signal's path to the receiver/amplifier. The only way the player's DAC gets involved it by using the player's analog output. In this case it doesn't matter if you set the player to PCM or bitstream, at least not for the signal output analoguely.

So it doesn’t matter who processes the lossless information???

@@geohof no. The only time it matters is if you are using analog cables to connect your blu ray player to your avr. Then your sound is being processed by your player and not the receiver
