In this clip, D.L. Hughley and DJ Vlad discuss the greatness of Scottie Pippen and how it was overshadowed by Michael Jordan. While Pippen was the subject of various jokes for saying he was as good as Jordan, Vlad recalled former teammate John Salley declaring Pippen as the most skilled player he witnessed. As the conversation continued, Vlad also brought up Gilbert Arenas' experience playing with Jordan on the Washington Wizards. To hear more, check out the clip above.

MJ had a coffee table book i owned over 10 years ago and Jordan said something in the book along the lines of “Scottie could do everything I could do and some things I couldn’t do. The problem was Scottie needed constant motivation. I needed zero motivation. Scottie was a wolf who needed to see the wolf pack behind him. I was born a lone wolf and didn’t care who was behind me.”

That's an awesome analogy of their two very different personalities. After watching the Last Dance I definitely see it...Scottie was acting like a little b!tch baby a lot of the time. I get that he got screwed with his contract but the way he made the entire team suffer because of it was just foul...pun intended😊

Jordan actually did say mention me and Pippen in the same breath. The media just has to say things like he made Pippen like Pippen ain’t have to put in his own work to be great. Even Coaches said Pippen was lazy in his early years. He didn't go to the gym. He didn't train well. But Mike saw the potential. He pulled Pippen to train with him. He made Pip stay in the gym. Thus establishing the breakfast club. And if one was late to that meeting, they heard it from Michael. So you're lucky if you have that one obsessive player that could pull you along. What a tandem they became.

In his first season with the Wizards, Jordan averaged 22.9 points per game, the 10th-highest mark in the NBA, along with 5.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He notably poured in 51 points against the Hornets on Dec. 29, 2001, becoming the oldest player to score 50-plus points in an NBA game. Jordan played in all 82 games in 2002-03, his final NBA season, and averaged 20.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals. He took fewer shots than the previous season, but he hit them at a much better rate (44.5 percent from the field).

Had he rapped in any other group he’d probably have been the best rapper in the group and his legacy as an individual would be much greater. Unlike Scottie tho, it doesn’t seem that Big Boi has any animosity still towards 3K, and they still hangout. John Salley…a Piston trying to discredit Jordan. Big surprise. I saw MJ take over games were he had to check the hardest players. When he won his first title, he averaged 32 point and 11 assist…in the finals. He averaged more assist than Magic. Against the Suns in the finals his averages were 41.0 / 8.5 / 6.3. In his last game as a Bull he stole the ball from Malone, then scored the game winning shot. When he scored 63 against the Celtics…he singled handedly kept the Bulls in that game…please name another player on that Bulls team that was even close to Hall of Fame status. Michael Jordan averaged 30.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 57 games for the Bulls without Scottie Pippen in his career. This is against dynasties, Lakers, Celtics, Pistons…and he was the ONLY player they had to worry about. Tell, if he had Kareem, or Michale, or Rodman, Dumars, etc he would have won a title every year he was in the league. Last thing. Pippen played two seasons without Mike, no titles. Mike comes back, three peat.

Where did he discredit Jordan? You sound young and new to B Ball. Those numbers are nothing that Jordan put up, he was a 1 man show. Scottie was shutting down the opponent best defenders. Jordan never won anything without Pippen period. Pippen got further without Jordan, than Jordan did without Pippen period. This aint up for debate. Jordan is a better player than Pippen. Pippen is considered a better all around player than Jordan, but Jordan was Elite in his scoring and aty the en of the day, that makes you special in the NBA. Being an elite defender doesnt win championships.

The following season they were barely a .500 team until Jordan came back. When Jordan played without Pip and Grant in the beginning his teammates were old and coke heads, by the time Pip and Grant came they were young pups learning the NBA game. When Jordan played with the Wizards they were inexperienced and he was old. The circumstances were different. Give Jordan that Portland team Pip had and they would’ve went to finals. I watched all of Jordan career starting with his loses against the Pistons. I was a Lakers fan with they won back to back and we’re going for the three-peat. I rooted against the Bulls in ever Finals until the 70-10 season. They were simply beautiful that year. During all that time…no one, ever doubted that Pipen was needed to win those titles. More importantly, no one looked at Pippen as Mikes equal. When they were winning titles…Mike was the MVP of all 6 finals. It Pippen was so great he would have gotten at least one finals MVP let alone a regular season MVP. Pippen was a great role player. He had great moment…but the last shot was never his. Why, because he was playing with the GOAT. Phil Jackson knew it and so did Pippen. That is why they won three straight…then Mike retired..zip…then Mike came back…3 again. In 1999 Pippen went to the Rockets with Barkley and Olajuwon…was out-stead in the first round. Pippen was one season removed from winning a championship. Why couldn’t he do it with that level of talent. The last year Mike was with the Bulls Pippen missed half the season. Still Mike lead them in regular season and lead them in the finals. If Pippen was so great he would have won the league MVP when Jordan retired the first time.

The same argument you are making can be said of Jordan in the mid-80s. Jordan did more with less than Pippen did who inherited Phill Jackson, Toni Kukoc and a team full of role player that had NBA finals experience. Mike did it alone while averaging half his teams points. Now, definitely cannot name a hall of Famers on Mike team before Pippen…yet there he was in the playoffs every year from his second year on…playing against Magic, Bird, Isaiah, Wilkins, Olujawon, Barkley, Price, Ewing, Richmond.

Pippen did nothing with the Rockets, 1 great year with Portland, and no D.L, Kobe did not take a wack Laker team to the finals, they played Phoenix in the first round and lost. And John Salley was just being kind. Yes Pippen was great, yes he was versatile, but he was not a great offensive player, was average from the foul line, had an average jump shot, and was superman on defense, and a great facilitator. If they keep Courtney Alexander and don’t trade Rip Hamilton for Stackhouse they easily are making the playoffs in year two. Meanwhile the Lakers are loaded and will have the same record. They enjoyed him failing so the story gets the lack of respect it deserves. He was more Chris Paul with the wizards even playing a lot of small forward. No more athleticism but fundamentals and a great mid range. Stackhouse and his lack of shooting and predictable can only dribble one way wasn’t a fit for the Wizards. A Kerry Kittles, Mike Bibby, Cutino Mobley, Quentin Richardson, Jimmy Jackson and definitely a Ray Allen would all be better fits than a Jerry Stackhouse.
