    This is great, man! You covered everything completely but concisely and didn't leave any questions unanswered - for me, at least. Not sure if I'll end up doing this, as I'm new to the 03, but I've done plenty of naked vistas, and have been wondering if that would work with an 03 AU. Initially, I only planned on getting 2 or 3 of the 03 AU but you know how that goes lol.

    I understand that! I just ordered my 5th o3 after going back to the Vista on my last build. Even with the Nebula Pro camera, going back to the older system after the O3 is pretty tough. Now I only use the Vista with a RunCam Phoenix starlight camera for night flying! Maybe soon we can get a good low light camera for the O3 system. That would be great!

    i had to do this last week to get weight down under 250. i was pretty confident that the material i used was petg but after assembly it turned into chewing gum as it turns out i used pla and this thing gets hot even with a fan blowing on it. printed it again in abs. works fine for me so far. lets see how it handles summer heat. for mounting i used soft double sided tape and a zip tie.

    PETG would work, definitely don't use PLA as it would go soft exposed to that heat. I went with TPU so that it has a bit of a inherent soft mounting in crashes.

    Adding a fan on the bench would be good enough. The beauty of the O3 is that you don't need to power it up for firmware updates or to pull footage from the onboard storage (like you had to with the Vista) so less chance of bench overheating.

    Great work! Only my 5” is using an O3 but I might go this route I install an O3 on my 3”. @@turionb1408 Hey. I don't believe anyone said the Vista is better overall. The O3 is really good. Where it lacks though is the size, weight, and terrible dynamic range so you don't have as good as an experience when you transition from light to dark places. I know they did a bit of firmware magic a while back to make this behaviour better but still not as good in the dynamic range department as the Vista.

    I did with the Vista on a whoop and 3d printing some stand off (kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2FhtbuOg8iXgto.html) The problem with that approach is that: 1 - You need to make sure that nothing touches the two halves, including the tops of the ribbon cable connector. 2 - You don't have anything holding down the board ribbon cables, the antenna connectors, and camera cable. They can pop off in a crash. It will work okay for a whoop but anything bigger and you'd want some sort of strapping to hold those connectors in place.

    I'd be too worried about the overheating the electronics, that might cause damage over time. Especially when I use a GPS, and I have to wait idle before takeoff, anywhere from 10-30 seconds for satelites to sync. The only way I would consider doing this, is if it was a winters day OR I had one of those portable jet fans blasting air at it while at idle I'd rather look for weight savings with a lighter frame, motors, props... titanium screws and standoffs, and smaller batteries. I even saved a few grams ditching the battery strap, and going for an industrial elastic band and adding strips of double-sided silicone tape on the battery pack for extra grip

  • @Mangorille

    @Mangorille

    That's so dumb, stripping down such a well-engineered piece of kit that defines FPV in the first instance. Remove the air unit, and your quad is no longer an FPV drone. You need to be more creative than simply pulling apart stuff with a screwdriver, (which isn't creative anyway, it's more destructive)!!! what about not adding a gopro, or go 4S rather than 6S, you will save more the 13 grams.
