DJI FPV Vista then O3 was what brought me back to FPV. I'm a photographer/videographer at heart, so years of analog FPV was not a great experience. I am not a racer or even a free style pilot, I just enjoy flying my iFlight Chimera 7 Pro HD V2 and covering up to 7km range and 30km of distance at 75km/hr and prefer a multi rotor aircraft over fixed wing. For a 7.5" prop drone (with the iFlight silicone camera mount) where the drone never crashes and is designed to broadcast back pristine 1080p video, it does its job very well and has been a very reliable system.

I don't like calling it backwards compatibility. It's more like "marketing capability". They don't allow O3 units to work with V1 goggles, and they don't allow Air Units and Link/vista work with V1 goggles after updating to work with the Goggles 2. This is just enough for marketing Goggles 2, but not really Backwards compatibility. They clearly chose to drop support for the V1 goggles. It would have been a simple update to V1 goggles to make it all truly backwards compatible.

Imo it seems that googles V1 lack hardware neccesery for 03 and potato drone, but they seem to be declaring everything except o3 and new googles wilk lose support and are near end of life.

Thank you for making this "open letter" video to DJI, the slow reconnection establishment bug is what I want them to fix the most; way better low-light performance would also be great, come on and unleash the large sensor's potential DJI! But man the O3's visual and signal quality is just on a whole other level compared to analog, being still able to see where you are going when flying completely behind a building just blows my mind every time.

Thanks for highlighting the link loss / recovery issue. It's a surprising and potentially dangerous behaviour, and a regression from the previous DJI Digital FPV system, which typically regains link in a few seconds. What concerns me most is that DJI does not seem to care either about fixing the issue or about its customers who lose or damage equipment as a result - they've known about it for at least 6 months now. Seems negligent.

@@JinKee I still fly HDZero on my toothpick because of weight. I'm using the original Sharkbyte VRX and skyzone 04X goggles. I used to fly HDZ on my 5 inch freestyle quads. HDZero in my opinion is digitally enhanced analog. When I decided to try DJI for the first time, I could not believe my eyes, the image was so beautiful. I also like the compact size and light weight of the goggles. Just my opinion though...

@@JinKee just so you know I'm not a dji fan boy. I had to get the fabric and foam comfort fit faceplate from dji to get the goggles 2 to fit well, it was worth it. Also, if you go with the 03 air unit and camera, get the camera butter lens protector or you'll have to buy another camera if you damage the lens, I learned the hard way. I'm flying an Chris Rosser AOS 5 EVO Frame. He also has a AOS 3.5 EVO Frame and even with the 03 air unit I believe it can be built to 250 grams

for everyone having Foggin issues ,use divers spit ,also works on VR goggles ,i use it and have no issues at all .oh yeah i love mi o3 i fly from inside mi room, and fly all over mi neighbor hood whith hills all around and i never thought that was possible is just amazing !!!

Nice, Much make sense review. lowlight camera for o3, 1s VTX or AV in for Whoops user, standalone VRX. DJI should study what feature WTFOS had offered like auto record. this is what I wanted

Another thought on the O3 is that while the camera is better for recording video to view later, the image is less ideal for flying especially for moving from light to dark areas. I don’t think there is any way to get both out of one camera. That being said, I think an advantage is that you can use a GoPro and get one recording with motion blur and another recording without if you don’t use ND filters on O3.

The update page at 7:16 shows the Goggles 2 has 2 new 120 fps options when used with the Avata. Does this mean the goggles 2 OLED panels are able to support 120hz so we can see the true 120fps, or do the goggles 2 cap out at 100hz? Also, is this now on the 03's as well? Thank you.

Yeah but can you output hdmi with the goggles 2 integra yet? I don't have a solution like I did with the Goggles v2.

DJI released their version of MSP OSD just in time for me to have already tried the root hack with a smaller color font. They should really update v1 and v2 goggles so they at least support older air units on the latest firmware and possibly support audience mode between all the goggles when using old air units.

@madstech I saw a video about customizing your Integra/goggles 2 so that you can get some of the fan air through the top of the faceplate(I am probably describing it wrong) But can you possibly look into it and to a video?!

End of life for a perfectly good system like the vista is nuts to me.

Thanks mate.Nice overview of the system. I have one question I have used air units and v1 goggles since they first came out. However a few weeks ago I bought the O3 air unit and managed to get a new pair of goggles v2 (not goggles 2). Are you saying if I update the O3 air unit and my original air unit to the latest firmware I will enjoy the benefits of increased video range i.e. its not dependant on having goggles 2 as well? Sadly no. So on the V2 O3 will give you 23.4km. However you have to use the old firmware on Au and vista for the V2 and that’s still limited to the 12KM or so. The only way you can get the benefit of longer range on the Au and vista is with the goggles 2.

720 transmission on vista and 820p on FPV drone.

All we want is the 4:3 aspect ratio.

I have heard that the 03 air unit with goggles 2 can provide Remote ID. Does it? If so, how do I check?

Seems spot on, I stuck with v2 due to the fogging issues reported on the goggles2. I'm sure DJI will have goggles2 v2 sooner or later, hopefully the fogging issue will be addressed.

@@mike80p I don't know as I haven't tried them myself but they look pretty bad in humid locations. Combined with the GPS arrest me now feature built in I'm not really interested in the Integra goggles either.

I'm apprehensive about getting the 03 due to what I've read about over heating shutdowns. I don't care about recording, just want immersive fpv view in the Goggles 3 at max quality. Does the likelihood of overheating go down when NOT recording. I am considering using a go pro and transmitter instead to bypass using air units. Probably will be some tradeoffs.

I've been using the O3 since they came out with the DJI FPV remote. As my flying has got better I've upgraded to a Boxer Max ELRS transmitter and I'm starting to have issues with O3 latency especially when signal quality drops you have a noticeable lag. This was OK before but as I've got better I'm flying faster and closer to things which can be problematic.

6:37 are you telling me that the 11km limit has been removed from the vista? I run the goggles v2 and am using the WTFOSD set of firmware mods. Do I need to update something to get that range extension?

The 11km limit is gone and increases to 30km when using the vista with Goggles 2. It’s still there at 11km with the 1 and V2 goggles though.

Hi I'm a noob in drone stuff just starting the hobby, but I know electronics a bit. I'm pretty sure you can get some awfully cheap ST micro or ESP and have it take either PPM/SBUS/Digital input and then connect to the DJI air unit and tell it to arm&record on your command. Or you can just have it take no input, and always tell the O3 unit to arm&record on power up.. If there is actually big need for it I can design the PCB very affordably but then I'm not good at firmware so I probably would need help with firmware (or I could maybe ask colleague from work for help with FW).

Hi,I was wondering... Is there a way to lower the video transmiter power? To avoid overheating. In Fcc mode. 🙂 Usualy in analogue vtx transmiter you have the option to adjust the power, But here? 🙂

DJI have been using Ambarella chipset in the action 1 but the action 2 was either the Eagle 2 or Eagle 3T like O3. Can’t quite see. The Action 3 is not known but I would bet it’s the E3T

What a great "review" Ian, I share a lot of your thoughts on this new system, and it definitely has some annoying shortcomings. Im currently on V2 goggles and I really don't feel like the G2 or Integra is much of an upgrade for me, it's a different product and it's awesome if thats what people want. But I prefer the analog input and the "box goggles" where i can use my glasses etc. Combined with the weird flaws such as no auto recording of the old gen air units on new gen goggles, makes me not want to update at all. So it feels very awkward when DJI is also trying to push us to upgrade to a product I don't want.

Very good video.. After spending lot of money on dji products we are still facing remote control 2 connection lost issue with dji o3. And dji should make compatible vista with goggles v2 and remote controller 2.. Why dji is making so much mess.. I think dji want us to use another remote like elrs

agree, if I had to start over today... I'd go walksnail. but I already have a dozen vistas and v2... 3 o3'sd and goggle2... the O3 and Goggles 2 works really well though... but super uncomfortable and lots of limitations.

100fps on the Goggle 2 and 120fps on the V2.

My number one issue with O3……. the binding loss issue with the V2’s STILL isn’t fixed 🤬

Sigh this is what I hate about DJI.. they make such an awesome product but stop the design process when they get it 90% complete. Then some of the 'bugs' get 'fixed' when they release a new drone with new remote & goggles... DJI - I want ONE remote that works with ONE set of goggles which are compatible with ALL of my drones (Both FPV and Mavics).

Would be good if DJI could do an update to make a vista auto record with goggles 2

Hi Ian. there is another important issue with 03 and thats interference when flying with other uses of the old DJI system. We have found that the channel numbers don't match frequencies between old and new DJI systems. For example if flying on 03 FCC channel 5 and a user of the old DJI boots up or shuts down and their model goes into the Public channel 8, this seems to be mapped to 03 DJI FCC channel 5 and the pilot using the new 03 system gets video loss and crashes. But we haven't found a FCC channel frequency list for the new DJI 03 so can't be 100% sure. Would make a good subject for a video.

Do you use a teleprompter of some type? Because you give so much info without many edits and don't stammer or get jammed up. It's quite a lot of information to keep track of. I'd like to know how you do it. Thanks for all that you do for our wonderful hobby. 👍 I too have been trying to get through to DJI that if they came out with a single board air unit, that was as lightweight as possible and maybe 1S, all of a sudden micros and whoops are covered, and DJI pretty much owns the digital FPV market. Alas, will it eva come? 🤷🥴🤦

Is it possible for dji to improve low light capabilites with a firmware update or does it come down to hardware. I loved when the polar camera came out for the vistas. That was so much fun. I have the cinebot30 which has beautiful leds, but they are about useless because i cannot fly in low light where these leds would be beautiful!! Any ideas here??? Thanks for another great video!

I don't know if you caught this but the inspire 3 has a low latency on board camera that is low light. Their is a good chance it will be on the updated O3

It’s unlikely, it’s odd as the camera does have a larger sensors than others but in the end it is what it is.

@Mads Tech yeah just using that large sensor seems like a waste if all it is there for is fore higher field of view. If dji listens to the community and wants to compete with walksnail they'll make it because not having it is huge lastly the frame rate for recording and for latency need to be separate like you said and they need an option to reduce resolution further for lower latency like 720p if you are flying more aggressively. If they do these things they'll make their costumers even happier.

@@leemadeley8736 The range is increased only when using the Goggles 2 AND the new Firmware that allows you to use it on the Goggles 2. Otherwise it is 10Km on the older Goggles V2

the original vistas and DJI camera or caddx pro with WTFOS are the best HD FPV systems for proximity and true FPV style flying use - dollar for dollar a V2 and vista is best value going

Also, no audio recording on the O3 Air Unit? Really?? That makes the Goggles 2 audio jack useless and makes me wonder do I need to now mount an audio recorder rather than a gopro xD

Curious why the original air unit has 30 KM range which is better than the 03 air unit. Doesn't the original air unit stay on 5.8 Ghz which should be worse than the 03 Air unit that can jump to 2.4?

As much as I know the DJI system is so nice the negatives you speak of out weight the positives IMO. I think the compatibility issues will be steering me to walksnail or maybe HDzero. I think why I dont hate analog is the latency being always what it is. I think the “smear” DJI gives when the latency is bad or when signal gets weak is probably a lot harder for me to get adjusted to than the analog static. I really wish HDZero’s penetration was better.

To me, the biggest issue with o3 is the jello. It is no longer possible even a little to use it as an action cam with the obvious jello in the video. I really hope DJI does something to solve it.

If you have jello, start by checking fundamentals, loose arms, stack, bad motor bearings, etc. Next change esc to 48/48k (assuming it was on 24/24k). If you still have vibes, check if your cam lens is loose. Ive delt with the vibes on 03, it's the build, the camera is just more sensitive. Hit me up if you need a hand isolating it

@@Fly_High_FPV honestly I think it’s probably the camera barrel thing being loose because my hardware is all good and solidly mounted, and Pwm frequency wouldn’t affect my live feed(which has the issue) because the gyro isn’t used in the live feed.

I have a DJI avata and remote controller. The goggles have head tracking but I believe DJI doesn't expose the data to user. I want to build a fixed wing rc plane with head tracking. My theory is all I need is O3 air unit because the technology is there. But since the DJI doesn't share the head tracking parameters, I need to use different transmitter and systems to accomplish my task. 😢 Talk to them Ian. They will listen you.

For most people it would be enough to exchange a GoPro+FPV cam to O3? I’m sorry, but even for a small fleet, it’s waaaaaay cheaper to just buy a GoPro that you can transfer between the quads instead of putting an O3 in your quads. And that’s not even counting the price of the goggles, nor the price of replacing a camera lens. Yeah, the image and penetration may be good, but GoPro image is better and penetration has never been a problem on anything for me. So unless you just fly one or two quads that you’re sure you’re not gonna break the camera, and you really need the additional flight time, and only during the daytime, O3 just doesn’t make any sense to me.

@@able_archer_ your can power a GoPro from the balance lead, so the weight is more like 100g difference. That doesn’t weigh up to the price difference. I’ve got 12 quads, 8 of which can carry a gopro. Even with that: financially, as a hobbyist, O3 makes zero sense.

It seriously shouldn't be that hard to get the system to remember bindings when flipping systems. Worst case they could write them out to the SD card and load when we switch. It just takes effort, and that's the real hurdle. Or.... heaven forbid they get the orginal VTXs on the 03 firmware to work with the V2s on the 03 firmware. Crazy thinking I know!

I like to fly at night, O3 is impossible! Not having different cameras is a no go for me! DJI is "closing" the system! Leaving DJI soon, walksnail for pure FPV is the way to go!

Yea DJI needs to let Caddx make cameras for the O3 unit so we can get an Avatar 2 system... Hahaha!

Hello! I request that you review this information. One person, together with the guys from WTFOS, analyzed the firmware for Walksnail VTX and saw that the actual maximum power for VTX is around 400-500 mV, which is confirmed by my measurements of power consumption at different power levels. Above 500 mW, the Avatar VTX stops consuming current, which is a fact. Also, there is no 50 megabit bitrate; it's actually around 40. But what's most concerning is that Cadxx responds to these facts with excuses or ignores them. It would be great if a blogger could shed some light on this topic via KZread because it's clearly a deception of buyers and dumb marketing for the sake of numbers. Regarding the power above 500 mV, there's a suspicion that the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) drops, and the Avatar VTX essentially jams itself, which is very bad. Also, in my experience with the 1S VTX, if you don't set the maximum power to 500 mW (350 is not even an option), then when you remove it with a worsening bitrate, the latency suddenly jumps to 200 ms. But if you set the power to 500 mW, then as you fly further, the bitrate drops, which is logical, but there are no latency jumps! I would like to convey all of this to Cadex, but they don't want to comment on it, so it would be good to try to get these issues resolved through bloggers. I don't think Caddx will ignore something like this.

TLDR: "long range" cruising, general flying, video feed, is best on the DJI O3. Bando, free style, and etc are better on other systems.

Totally disagree, 03 killer for bashers, been flying in concrete with it for 6 months, 10 packs a day and 20-30 on the weekends. I just brought the last quad in my fleet up to 03

@@Fly_High_FPV the camera is just expensive to replace. I guess it depends on the frame itself, if it gives total coverage to the camera, would be a lot more durable.

I love o3 but I hate my goggles 2 the antifog is absolutely terrible. I tried 3 different foams all bad. I would love to keep them because of size and bootuptime. I would love to have the possibility to update my vista and air units and use them in o3 mode on the goggles v2 this would make me very very happy

Should I be disappointed, really disappointed that you promised video is not 40 minutes long ? No, must have been a lot of work to cut it down that way and to compress it to this 37 minutes release. I am still hesitant to move ahead to O3 considering they achieved a partly compliance with the older parts for the first time not sure if they would contirue to do so. I simply do not want to loose another fortune into a system they might leave behind regarding support and therefore I am still waiting and relying on the older system in general and analog fpv for my planes.

It honestly seems like DJI purposefully go out of their way to make things as convoluted as possible. They're a shocking company to have producing one of the best digital video systems we have to use. Why can't they be more like HDZero and listen to their customers!

DJI forgot fixed wing flyer exist, even some quadcopter flyer use INAV / Ardupilot. Their O3 OSD font set is lacking and Betaflight-centric. Not recomended product IMO. Better go with Avatar / HDZ.

It’s a good system but the Goggle 2 are horrible. Tried them a few weeks ago and do not like them at all. The fit is disgusting and uncomfortable to say the least. Think I’ll be with the V2’s till they’re obsolete.

Nah.... DJI incompatibility between their own similar products put a sour taste in my mouth... Needing to buy new Expensive DJI FPV products when new simila FPV products come out is Nuts. With their overpriced greedy policies they shot themselves in the foot.

Hardware limitation similar to how phones stop receiving updates. The goggles v1 came out 7 years ago, fair go.

G’day DJI, I am disgusted that my FPV V1 goggles, the first digital goggle you ever released, that I purchased some 6/7 years ago are no longer being developed or supported. I expect them to work the same as the most recent integra and goggles 2 and for you to continue the development of my goggles FPV V1 to work the same or better than the new hardware. I am also very bitter that you’ve abandon the V2 even though it’s likely no longer economically viable to source tiny LCD screens that have long been forgotten by chinas factories that meet your quality control standards. I expect you to keep producing the V2 and selling at a loss. Get a grip guys not even phone manufacturers support devices for this long and they’re the industry gold standard with access to the most money for development.

The V1s were released in 2019 and could be purchased from DJI until 2021. They weren’t their first googles, though, maybe you confused them with their 2017 goggles for their camera drones?

Hahaha yeah this is my take. People are being ridiculous. I literally just read a post that said "we demand better performance, but on the same hardware". Figure that one out 😂

For someone who doesn't do racing and flies purely for my own enjoyment I can say that: - hdzero might be a good system, but the availability is unacceptable for me, I know people who I fly with who have waited serveral months for their orders and have not yet recieved them, I also don't feel like I want to spend $600 on goggles and still need to fight for them to be the first to preorder and then pray they actually get shipped. Also hdzero is a small and new company, they have great ideas, but in terms of design and quality control there are still things that need fixing. Dji stuff you can pretty much buy off the shelf any time you need something, also the v1 system has proven to be pretty much bulletproof, hoping the o3 will be just as durable - walksnail for me feels like a shady company from the start, they have lied and twisted the truth too many times for me. Mocking the community about their new secret product, fatshark lying about cooperating with a different brand, caddx lying about them actually being walksnail, hiding what kind of chip theyre using in their system, literally lying through software tweaks about the actual latency of the system. Too much bad PR in my eyes for me to put any money into it, plus I can't see any real advantages over DJI. Low light camera? For a small group of people maybe.

@@mark6302 DJI has their flaws, they certainly don't listen to the community, though sometimes out of the blue they add a feature we request, they discontinue their products but that's also due to tech moving forward to some point. I don't remember DJI straight up lying about features though.
