After using the DJI Mini 3 non stop for 5 months, I give you my best long term review on this drone; I go through the pros and cons, the good and the bad and show you some of the best drone footage I've been able to shoot using this amazing cinematic drone. I explain why I think this really is the very best drone for beginners and professionals alike.

Great vid. I’ve had 6 different drones over the years and this is the one I’ve used the most due to it’s convenience. Convenience is king especially when the quality is as good as this.
Great video, You've made my mind up I'm definitely get one. Thanks.

I remember how I had discussions with film production companies. We were convinced that in one to two years you won't need a €15,000 drone, DJI drones and other competitors will develop so well that you can almost achieve better results with the new generation. Especially when working on a volcano or something similar, you fly more relaxed with a €2,500 drone than with a 15,000 € part.

Thank you Ian, a good and honest review as usual. I have had the Mini 2 for over 15 months and always considered it a flying camera. So to test the capability of the camera I followed filmmaker Philip Bloom and placed the Mini 2 on a tripod and with only the camera switched on filmed flowers & plants in the garden from a distance of around 1 metre. Very impressed with the performance and detail of lens and sensor at this distance, and detail you will not see at 50 metres plus. Very low light and night flights apart, for the filming I do, the camera on the Mini 3 Pro would not give sufficient improvement to make the change cost effective. If the flying is important then that would be a different matter.
The Mini 3 Pro is the best Mini drone ever. And it even competes with the Air 2S in many ways. Great long term review, thanks for sharing.
Still can’t allow myself to give up my Mini 2 due to the cost. Maybe one day…… but I love my mini2 and try and get it flying but with winter coming - and that means a lot of rain here in Manchester- probably just as well. Thanks for the ongoing reviews Ian. Always helpful and useful photo tips too.

The RC Pro now works with the Mini 3 Pro apparently, so if you have one can take take your Mavic 3 Cine and your Mini 3 Pro out in your backpack for the best all worlds, not tried it yet, but will be. Totally agree with your assessment if you’re travelling light there is nothing better.
Ian, great video as ever. I would like to echo what you said about the “change of use”. We recently took a 3 week vacation road trip through New England and Canada and the compactness and usability of the 3 Pro had me just using it like I would have my DSLR - in my backpack and taken out as required to capture shots during hikes etc. It cuts out a lot of the fuss and set up time. A great little package IMHO.

I love the mini 3, you can take it anywhere and people hardly even notice it, my other drones are gathering dust. As for the RC pro, I bought one second hand for a good price, though I agree still an expensive remote, but it has a few advantages over the mini 3 pro remote when flying the mini 3…Hdmi port allows DJI goggles, or a feed to a Feelworld monitor, FCC hack available giving really good distance, even more with cheap little antenna signal boosters. Much better nit level for bright sunlight. Always enjoy your videos, keep them coming.

Every DJI Mini drone outperforms expectations for the price. I fly the Mini 2 and previously had the Mavic Mini. Both provide excellent video and photos for the price of a toy. I’ve been using two chamast power banks both 23000mah battery but ones 65 w which gives the charging case it’s 30w power for quicker charges on the go and the other one which is slimmer but still gives 20w charge. Thanks for your content! I also take my mini 3 pro drones with me everywhere I go as I do with my cameras. I have noticed that a set of fully charged batteries in my kits might only have about 58% charge remaining if left unused for about two weeks. What is your experience with the batteries? I have two drones and four (4) of the 249g extra light batteries and the three (3) battery charger. I store the batteries in the drones or charger to minimize space in my kits. Should I store the batteries on their own?

Almost all DJI batteries auto discharge after a few days, down to around 60% after 2 weeks; this is to help protect them. You do have to plan your flights and charge them up the day beforehand; of course you can always use a USB power bank for when you're on the road, or your car's phone USB phone charger.

Good one. The sensor is smaller, but the individual pixels are the same size as the Mavic 2 Pro and the Air2S. So you will only get 12Mp stills, but the quality will be very good. Video should be barely indistinguishable as the Mavic 2 Pro crops down (ie doesn't use the outer ring of sensors) when filming 4K.

Thanks a Ton, your posts have been great. I'm new to drones and would very much appreciate your input on the DJI RC Controller where it's obvious that you feel very positively towards them. I am however concerned about its inability to connect to the Internet. Since my purchase of a Mini 3 Pro with the standard controller I have learnt that because of a landing strip in the neighbourhood the entire area is classified as an "Enhanced Warning Zone" and I am required to agree to two sets of regulations before I can clear the screen and get on with flying. This is done through the Internet. This has further implications I won't bore you with. I live in Canada. Thanks again.

Great review - Thank you. Quick question - I had a mavic 2 pro pre covid for property photography. One inch sensor was perfect. Had to sell it and rest of my kit. Thinking of getting back into it and I'm really attracted by the weight and lack of restrictions for the Mini pro 3. However 12mp is quite a drop down ( Although offers better file sizes for clients ! ) I'm wondering about your thoughts on the quality of the stills and the level of detail captured. Landscapes can't really demonstrate this so hoping you've shot something that might give an idea. Thanks in advance.

For property photography 12Mp would be plenty of resolution, especially as it's mostly going to be published online rather than printed in large size paper. The mini 2 or 3 will give great results. The Mini 3 will be better if you can stretch to it as it has the larger sensor. 👍🏻👍🏻

I just picked one up, the Fly More package and some Freewell filters. I’m always very sentimental with my trusty familiar stuff lol so having a hard time deciding if I really want to get rid of my Air 2 and keep this. It is slowly growing on me though. It has its own unique strengths to balance out the things I miss from my Air 2. Couple bigger and even some little things that bug me: no downward light so it dances all over if you take off in the dark, which got kinda hectic real quick and had to land. It is a lot more flutter-y and bounces around in the air more than my Air 2 which makes it looks like more of a toy than a “Pro” labeled drone. Also funny enough I miss the quick dual flashes of the Status Lights of the Air 2 vs the longer single on pulses of the Mini 3. Not to mention no rear signal lights on the Mini. The quick two pulse flashes look more serious and premium IMO. But, I can take the Mini to Canada to visit family and actually fly it there so that’s a huge plus and a big reason I bought it. Guess I’ll have to give it some more time and see.

The power to weight ratio and max top speed has much to do with it. The Mini 3 Pro has become my default drone in all circumstances, up mountains and off cliffs. You have to buy them separately but it's absolutely perfect for hiking....

@@IaninLondon Thanks! I'm looking at the Mini 2 bags on Heliguy. Do you know if the controller will fit in a separate bag?

If the drone fits, the control will fit in the same sized bag 👍🏻
I live in a class D zone, drone was locked. Had to go to a class and upload my certificate to unlock. Muncie Indiana
What bags do you use for the controller and drone.?

How hard is this unit to fly? I saw this unit at a van rally and thought "hey I need a new toy" instead of buying a new gun or upgrading my night vision monocular. Night vision was like 3,000 bucks so at the price of one of these I would use it more. Great video.

Drone way better than a new gun. 😎👍🏻 It's very easy to fly 🤠
is the mini3 bag the same like from air2s bag?
