If you want, please send me a long exposure photo (I really like the one with the building and highway in the background) on Instagram or Facebook and I will post it in my KZread community tab with links to your youtube and other social media accounts. Thank you very much! That means a lot. Yes, I saw the long exposure photos done on your channel and thought it should be easy enough for a beginner like me to execute so I had to try it. Thanks for the tips. I just started flying drones in October 2019 and slowly learning from channels like yours and others. I will send you a few photos to your Instagram. Thanks again.

I have been flying drones for about 4-5 years and the quality and capability of the Mavic Air 2 is really impressive. Even the low light is pretty good. I have a collection of less expensive drones that were good for learning but I think you really need to get into the $800 range to get really good footage. I just got the Skydio 2, but because of the obstacle avoidance, you can't fly at night. I am thinking the Air 2 would be a good portable all-arounder.

Big question for you... what makes 30 fps better than 24 fps? Still trying to understand this photography stuff. Any advice? Thanks!

  • @ChadB

    @ChadB

    3 жыл бұрын

Thanks...This video was shot in 30fps, but I like 24fps better. Especially when I film a cinematic sequence. 24fps is what you see in the movies so to make my videos look more movie like, I'm using 24fps more often now for my videos. One downside is that when filming in a lower frame rate, it limits your ability to slow down your footage if you want. You wiil have to film in a higher frame rate (preferably 60fps to start), slow it down then render at 24fps

  • @ChadB

    4 жыл бұрын

Yes it is set 715 ft. That doesn't mean I fly above 400 ft. AGL because I'm also limited to that height by the FAA. However, I don't limit myself just in case I need to climb over a structure or obstacle. Also, there are instances where your take off point may be lower than the physical AGL location of the drone so you may have to go above 400ft (based off the take off) to compensate. I'm still learning these camera settings myself. I'm just following what others have done. But there is quite a bit of graininess on this video if you look closely. However, from what I have learned, I filmed in a well lit area and I manually set my iso to 6400 for that environment and since I was recording at 30fps, I set my shutter speed at 1/60. I did not use HDR. But there has been a firmware released in the last day or so which should improve the graininess when using HDR at night.

Hey chad did you use a denoiser plugin?

  • @ChadB

No denoiser...You see less noise when viewing on a cell phone than you would viewing on a monitor or TV. You can see the noise much more on a monitor

The Mavic 2 Pro performs better in low light. All comes down to how much you want to spend.

Thanks. You can fly at night as a recreational drone pilot with the proper lighting on your aircraft. Here's some info for both Part 107 licensed and Recreational pilot for night flight. pilotinstitute.com/can-i-fly-my-drone-at-night/

Great video. I’ve been flying my drone for a little over a month. I thought flying at night was permitted only by those having a part 107 license. I live in WA state.

    What strobe do you use?

The strobe is TopSun. Got it from Amazon. When i received it, I noticed the casing is just an old iPod Nano. It's bright and works as expected.

Yes I did notice. I don't go over 400 ft, but I don't limit the height to just 400 just case I need to get over an obstacle.

Why use ND filters at night? It just means you have to crank up the iso, adding noise. I've not tried my drone at night yet, but from night photography with a normal camera, you need all the light you can get!

  • @ChadB

This was my first time trying this, but I believe the idea is to reduce the amount of light for the longer exposure. To get a better effect with the streaks of light from the vehicles on the road, you have to crank up the shutter speed to the max. I also tried it without the filter and with the shutter speed all the way up everthing was flown out. If I reduced it, there would be breaks in the streaks. The same applies for daylight longer exposure. However, you would use a nd 1000 or 2000 filter.
