Just added your channel. I also just got my RE goggles in today, mostly for using with my analog 5.8ghz copters. I also notice more latency over my old Fatsharks just as you found. But if I didn't know better it looks like there's some kind of digitizing of the video that doesn't seem to be going on with the Fatsharks. If you look at the snow when there's no signal, it occasionally freezes with a nice snow shapshot. I don't see this with my FS's tho... So maybe whatever they're doing to render the video on the screens is part of what's adding the latency. Or I could be completely wrong :) I'm not a racer so this latency is well within what I need to do my type of flying. Basically FPV freestyle once I actually learn how to fly well :)

Ive been testing them since XDC, i can fly with them but it takes a while to get used to the latency. Plus i have had bad luck with video reception to be totally honest. Ive tried a bunch of antennas on the receiver end.

You really need to have a camera on each viewpoint of the same exact scene to make this more accurate or something moving with constant velocity. Your displacement in the clapper can be slightly different in each scene causing a different velocity for each shot; thereby making each shot really take more or less time than the other which skews the latency results. This inconsistency is huge btw when we're talking about milliseconds.

This may sound like a strange question prompting a "why would you want to?" reply, but do you know if I could ONLY hook up the Tx UART output to the Occusync Air module? Would that be enough to get voltage telemetry on screen?

+Peter Freund I have no idea. I have not messed with the occusync stuff at all. Sorry!

Thanks for the video. I'm really interested in these goggles. You used 300fps for calculations for both goggles, but you mention the footage was 240fps from one camera and 300fps in the other camera... ? Is that right? I have tried the dji goggle (not RE) with a mavic and I love the picture quality, large fov, comfort, the short time it takes to get a comfortable fit compared to Fatsharks, and feel of quality on those goggles. What will keep me from buying DJI goggles RE is 1, latency and 2, no input for ground station. Shawn, can you confirm which ANALOG changes are available with the goggles RE ? From memory the manual claims 40 channels but also says only goes down to 5685 and only as high as 5925mhz... Confusing.

I recorded the test with 2 identical iphone X cameras in slow motion mode. I thought it was 240 fps but when I got the footage it was actually 300 fps. Both were identical. I'll check the hz range. I'm not sure, I recorded this on RB1. I'm curious about latency. The latency from the test seems accurate but I get that it was pretty crude test. In regard to the latency, I wonder how big of a deal it can be. If we can get use to 25ms with fatsharks then whats 20ms more? I'm definitely not one of the fast guys but when I watch you all fly, it seems like you're working as much as 1-2 seconds ahead vs here and now. In regard to external ground station, that was my biggest concern and I actually think I have a solution. I haven't tested it yet but I hope to in the next day or so. It will be a big deal, I'm excited about it. I've been driving Joshua Bardwell and IBCrazy nuts with questions but they've helped me come up with a pretty clever way to get a ground station into the goggles.

Heart of America FPV well if Fatsharks are 25ms, then an additional 20ms would be 45ms, so basically double latency... Double , aka 100% increase Sounds HUGE to me but I try to only rely on field tests. I was going to try running an analog to digital HDMI converter to be able to use a ground station with these goggles but don't want to invest in the test. Keep me posted on how your testing works out, I'm curious.

absolutely, I agree. It's disappointing. I think these are the ultimate ride along goggles for anyone who has a DJI drone and races. The receiver in them is actually really impressive as well. I am curious to try to hit gates with them.

Shawn, I almost thought you meant races with a DJI quad, haha... ( Maybe in the future this won't be laughable) But I think you mean, owns a DJI, but races a non DJI on analog video. Though I am curious to try the DJI race Vtx.

yes, someone who races with mini quads but owns a DJI. :) I do think DJI is one of our better bets in bringing digital video links to market in a viable way. The occulink system that pairs with these goggles is supposed to be 50ms as well.

Heart of America FPV 50ms minium. And 20ms is not huge... Even with the perfect reaction time and muscle memory of Nurk his brain still takes over 300ms to process the ocular information from his eyes and then decide what his hands should do to move the quad.

DroneRodeo yes but all latency is additive.. so even if you're right that it takes my brain that long it's still additive so reducing that latency is still important
