DIY Wooden Truck Cap Camper Walkthrough
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I give a walkthrough of a popup truck cap camper I built for my 2017 Silverado 1500. The frame/structure is built entirely out of wood and uses aluminum composite panels for the doors. I decided to use wood as Aluminum was too expensive when I estimated the materials out. When closed my overall height of my truck is 88 inches and the camper weighs about 600lbs.

THIS is DIY! Everyone can do this with basic tools! Not like these bogus YT'ers with $100k worth of tools and shops. Love your build.
Simple and functional. Awesome job.

Just so you know, I plan on doing almost exactly the same. Thank you for the inspiration and doing a true DIY build out.

I really like your build! I just finished mine (posted the video a few weeks ago) and I love the simplicity of your build. I definitely overcomplicated some things in mine lol

I think yours is awesome! There's so many unknowns when you build it for the first time, making it hard not to overcomplicate things!

Looks amazing! I've been considering a pickup camper like this but you can't really find prebuilt campers like this in the UK. I especially like the fully wrap around bug net, usually you'd only see them with "windows" but your setup looks far more comfortable. The only things I'd be worried about would be how the velcro would hold up in the wind, and whether the gas struts have enough strength to keep the top up in heavy wind. Maybe consider replacing the velcro with waterprood zips, and getting a pair of gas strut retainers if it prooves to be a problem?

Thanks! It's held up great in the wind so far but we always seem to have the canvas sides down so I have no idea how the velcro would hold up lol
Does the Top Lock Open So Wind Gust doesn’t Squish you in the Night?

I used a short piece of 2x4 on each side cut to match the slope just in case 🤞
