Nice man! I did the same thing 2 months or so ago. Used horizontal slats on the back as well and stained. Neighbors loved it and asked me to build them some! Had same issue as you.....hides an otherwise unsightly trash area etc. and makes curb appeal bump up! I even put a flower planter on front which adds some “SEXY” which I know you love. Love your skills man.

The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. Nice job. I will do something similar to this on my house too. But why is there no support for the wood fence at the top? It looks like it flexes a lot even when you are just putting the screws into the planks in the video. Shouldn't there be something like a Simpson Strong Tie metal fastener ($2 right angle metal bracket) to attach it to the house (brick or wall)? Even then, the front part/post of the wall is not supported that great. I guess its ok but if you get strong winds or something bumps into it there could be damage, no? If the posts were in the ground or the concrete it would not be an issue but I understand that you did not want to do that. So how can we make that fence a bit more sturdy???

Great job dude! I would have put a 2x4 on the backside at the top to lock it in better and to help reduce wobble...and if you want your posts to last about 10x longer, you should cap them with a pre-made post cap to keep the rain out! Keep in mind the wood is basically just a bunch of drinking straws grouped together and you have the endgrain (open ends of the straws) pointed straight up to catch all the rain! I added solar powered illuminated caps to mine...helps to find the cans at night when no lights are on!

I'm always an advocate of calling 811 before digging, however, this is very miner digging plus I know exactly where the line is since I personally was there when they installed the gas line. Thanks for looking out though. Hope you enjoyed the video.

You should have inserted and set the metal anchors soon after you poured the concrete. Would have saved on all the drilling.
