DIY Subfloor Insulation: Cutting & gluing it all down | Ford Transit Van Conversion Series [ 4 ]

Follow along as I self-build my own unique camper van inside a 2015 Ford Transit 350 Extended Cargo Van -- with no experience. ...and when I say "no experience," I mean ZERO EXPERIENCE! I have never done anything like this before, so I am learning as I go. I will make some mistakes, but that's okay.
In this project, I chose to use foam board insulation. I chose this mostly based on price, R-Value, inherent structure, and "ease of installation" (though it wasn't as "easy" as I thought it would be). I didn't care as much about noise reduction since noises don't tend to come from below your vehicle while camping. I also wanted to use something that would maintain its shape easily.
I should note that I could have done my framing differently if I was using a fiber-based insulation like Wool, Thinsulate, Fiberglass, etc. I may have been able to do things differently if I had more experience and/or knowledge. But you have to make decisions based on needs, budget, and knowhow.
I say this because...
My end product may look a little weird. I am aware that I made some possibly strange choices, lol. BUT, it worked out in the end and (now that my floor is actually done and I have had it a while), it is quite stable. :)
This video highlights the cutting and installation of the foam board, and includes gluing down both the insulation and the frame that I made in my previous video. In my next video, I will fill in all the gaps with spray foam, seal the gaps with tape to create a moisture barrier, and put my pre-cut plywood subfloor back in and secure it to the frame.
Tools/Materials I used:
Ryobi Circular Saw (to finish last-minute framing pieces)
Cheap Utility Knife (maybe not the best tool for the job, but it worked)
Tape measure
SikaPro Construction Adhesive (for the wood)
3M™ Hi-Strength 90 Spray Adhesive (for the foam board)
Pro Select R-Matte Plus-3, 1 in. x 48 in. x 8 ft. R-6.0 ISO Rigid Foam Board Insulation
Thank you so much for watching!

Congrats on the milestone! Even the pro builders get tons of advice and call outs on what they did "wrong" - You do the best you can with what you have to work with and don't let it derail you! That being said, I have a bunch of suggestions (just kidding).

Thank you so much! 😊 and yeah, it's so hard being new and not fully knowing the difference between doing something wrong and just doing something differently than someone else would have done. I have certainly winced and moved forward with projects with fingers crossed that I'm not ruining everything 😂😂 but hey, so far it's working LOL

I would make everything removable. Maybe make 3 or 4 floor panels that can slide in and out. Even wall panels. If any water leaks into van and gets stuck under floor it will probably rust. From what I've seen from mice to bugs to sand getting all over inside vans while they travel it just seems smart to make it all removable. It may cost some height but probably worth it. I think you can make it look all built in while making it all easily removable. And if ever needed you can store it all in a storage locker and use it in another van. Anyways just my thoughts.

This is great advice! And I love the perspective of being able to transfer your build into a new van later. For me, my floor is already done, so I can't try it out there (though I do have a double moisture barrier lol) - I do believe it is important to be able access behind walls for electrical purposes, but you're right, making it removable/transferable is a great reason to do panels as well. I haven't done my walls yet, but I'll see what I can do with my level of skill LOL. I agree with you 100%
