DIY Subfloor Vapor Barrier and Plywood: Trials & Triumphs of a Newbie | Van Conversion Series [ 5 ]

I think this is the most "noob" I've ever "noobed" - the simplest things were an obstacle for me, and you may find yourself laughing at me. That's okay. I think it's hilarious, too lol -- But still...
I DID IT!
This is the third and final video on building my subfloor. If you missed the first two, you can find them here:
Video 1 (Framing) : • DIY Subfloor Frame: Fr...
Video 2 (Insulation) : • DIY Subfloor Insulatio...
In THIS video, I use expanding spray foam to fill the gaps and cracks between my subfloor frame and insulation board... Well, I TRY to use it. It goes a little worse than I expected and I was legitimately worried that I was ruining all my previous work. It worked out, but I didn't learn as much from that part of the project as I had hoped.
The next part of my project involved using aluminum tape to seal the seams as a way to complete the moisture barrier. This part went okay, except that I apparently purchased a roll of shiny duct tape instead of a second roll or aluminum tape, so the front part of the van uses this duct tape. I decided to continue using it, once I realized my mistake, but I don't know for sure if this was the correct choice. After doing a bit of research, it seems okay, but I'm not positive.
And finally, I install and secure the plywood. I got very lucky that the previous owners had already cut the plywood, because they did an amazing job, and I don't think I would have ever made such perfect cuts if I had done it on my own. So all I had to do was bring in the wood and screw it down to the frame - which was not as easy for me as it sounds...
I have struggled with using power drills with screws. I honestly don't know what magic other people use to make this look so easy, but I clearly was not blessed with this natural talent. Changing the screws ended up solving everything for me, but still - I feel like I should be able to use a power drill for such a simple task with regular wood screws LOL. If you have any tips, I'm all ears... there will be a lot of screws in this project :)
All in all, I got this project done, and I'm super proud of what I accomplished, and thank you so much for watching!
So follow along as I self-build my own unique camper van inside a 2015 Ford Transit 350 Extended Cargo Van -- with no experience. ...and when I say "no experience," I mean ZERO EXPERIENCE! I have never done anything like this before, so I am learning as I go. I will make some mistakes, but that's okay.

Ryobi Circular Saw (for cutting down the plywood) - link is for saw only, not the battery, though I bought mine as part of a starter set on sale for Christmas a few years prior -

Aluminum Tape (I had this from a previous project, so I'm not 100% sure what brand I used... but I THINK it was this) -

Shiny Duct Tape (oops!) -

Wood screws - The first screws I tried using that were 1.25" didn't work at all. I switched to these right away, and they worked, but not as well as the Torx screws. Here is the link if you want it, but I recommend the Torx if you are not experienced with DIY -

Torx (star drive) screws -

3/4" Plywood (pre-cut by previous owners - THANK YOU!)

I really love your positive and cheery attitude. You're an inspiration. I'm enjoying watching your videos. I am also hoping to start my own van project soon, so thanks for being the ginny pig and letting me watch you tackle the hard stuff first before I try. lol. Thanks for filming and posting.

Omg thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. And so cool that you're wanting to start a van project, too. You're gonna do awesome. 😎 As you have seen, it's possible - regardless of your previous experience 😂 Thanks again! ❤️

Every "NOOB" wastes a lot of spray foam their first time, I sure did. Just keep on "Noobin" looks like your getting it figured out 👍🏻

Oh, never underestimate my power to lose a pencil LOL - I used to assign a person to keep track of my markers when I would do presentations back in the day hahaha. But seriously, though, thank you so much. It's amazing the simple things that feel like they shouldn't be difficult, but totally are when you are brand new. I'm getting there LOL
