DIY Stove Drawer System | Camp Kitchen | Tacoma Bed Storage

Ойын-сауық

In this DIY build video I’ll build a low profile kitchen/stove drawer system for the bed of my 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma. This stove drawer system only takes up about a third of the bed space and incredibly only takes about 10 second to set up for cooking. This new camp kitchen should make our truck camping / overlanding cooking much easier. If you have any questions, please comment below. Thanks for watching and stay safe out there. Came up nice. I would have put a piano hinge on the lid though.

    Thanks. Honestly if I made it again I would not even add that hatch portion. It doesn’t serve much purpose since it holds kitchen gear so you have access when it’s slid out and it makes it much more secure when the tailgate is closed and locked. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT

    Cool simple build. I'd put the drawer on slides and use truck bed liner or seal with spar.

    Thanks for watching. Both good ideas, but I didn’t feel I needed the slides. The design of the drawer being longer on one side than the other made it difficult for slides as well. It works well and zero issues without slides so far. As far as the coatings, I wanted to try paint in this one , but in hindsight I think stain and poly would have been better. I’m building another one so maybe I’ll try that on the next one. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Stay safe out there. TbT

    Thanks for watching and commenting Hope it helps with your build. That design has worked really well for me. I would probably eliminate the top door/hatch part if I made it again. Never really use it and with a locking tailgate not having that hatch makes the drawer secure. Good luck. TbT

    Nice build - you did a pro job, there. For my own use, I think I will set the stove on pair of strong magnetic mounts I have. Just so it can be held in place but removed if I want to cook away from the truck. That’s just for my use, though, no criticism of your build. 👍🏻

    Thanks! The Tacoma has a bed accessory rail that you can basically mount anything you want to it. I built the propane tank holder to my specific needs so it would line up with the bed rail system. Thanks for watching.

  • @TravelingbyTacoma

    Thanks and thanks for watching. The box is 59.5” long (full bed length) and is 16 1/8th” wide at the stove end (built to fit my specific stove dimensions) and 5.5” tall (just about a strong 16th taller than my stove height). The storage area is 11 1/8th“ wide. Most important thing is to make the sizing off your specific stove dims. Good luck and stay safe out there. TbT.

  • @TravelingbyTacoma

    @TravelingbyTacoma

    Thanks, it works great. No issues so far it’s pretty solid, but it rarely rains in SoCal. If I was to do it over I’d eliminate the hinged hatch on the top, no real use for it and it would keep it more water resistant and dust proof. Also make sure you polyurethane the outside and it will be water resistant for sure. Good luck.

    Like it I just completed something similar. What did you use to for the small orange hose coming out of the stove? Can’t find anything to replace the 45 bracket that comes with the stove.

  • @TravelingbyTacoma

    @TravelingbyTacoma

    2 жыл бұрын

    That’s the hose (orange) that came with my stove. I’ve had that stove for 20+ years and can’t remember who makes it actually. The orange hose connects to the stove and has the typical green bottle propane size fitting on the other end. I just connected a newer style propane hose to that and connect to my 5 pound tank from there. Hope you figure yours out. Good luck. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.

    Awesome build and one Im going to pull a few ideas from! Any idea what your total cost was in just materials?

  • @TravelingbyTacoma

    @TravelingbyTacoma

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching and commenting. I’d say about 50-60$, but I think I made this from leftover plywood so I’m just estimating. Plywood, screws, paint, a few bolts and some miscellaneous parts like the shelf bracket I had laying around... I would estimate the cost above is close to accurate. I would stain and coat with polyurethane if I was going to do again. The paint scratches a little too easily. I’m going to put some polyurethane over the paint and see if that helps a bit. I have another “kitchen drawer build ” video I’m working on now where I stained and polyurethaned and I like the results better than the paint. Good luck with your build. Stay safe out there. TbT

    I would use at least 5/8 on the top and sides of the box and 1/2 on the bottom of the box to save weight. Use Baltic Birch ply. It’s light and strong. Same for the drawer. Unfortunately ply wood is insanely expensive right now. The Baltic Birch isn’t too bad though. Good luck with your build.
