    Ooooooo! So cute! Love the subtlety of the the designs and soft colors. With a larger mold, would make an adorable outdoor tabletop too! Appreciate your direct and succinct presentation, nicely done.

    This is, by far, the best steppingstone tutorial I have found on KZread.Can you tell us why you chose mortar mix over concrete mix? My only problem with it is that you did not give us enough footage of your dogs! Seriously, thank you for sharing.

  • @kimscreative6834

    @kimscreative6834

    Thank you! I believe I chose the mortar because concrete tends to contain large pebbles that I didn't want in the finished product. Over a year later they are still holding up well, given the chicken wire and thickness.

    I did a similar project with bare hands and had chemical burns(small little areas) and it was ridiculous. It was a dumb mistake but I hate wearing gloves so...live and learn. For my next project I bought a box of medical gloves that were a little too small for my hands but they stretched and made it easier to work the project. I was placing small round stones of different colors in a round form in the middle of a patio so I needed to be able to place them without having big gloves on to mess up the cement when I was placing them. The smallish medical gloves did the trick and no chemical burns! The burns didn’t hurt all that much but they took forever to heal because they had fine particles of cement inside the burn, I had to get the “scabs” off and let the new skin fill in. It was tedious to say the least and a lesson learned the hard way.

    My cousin used the plastic leaves,it worked well. She did a full stone with different leaves 😃 also if you use a product called fiber mesh and mix it with the concrete you don't have to use chicken wire. Fiber mesh is added to your concrete as you mix it. It's realativy inexpensive. Just a thought . Your video is excellent 😃 you did a fantastic job 😁 thank you so much for the ideas,God bless.

    Hi Sue- Thanks. I don't think they are too slippery, but mine are on a flat surface, and I don't know how they would be on a slope. My gut tells me you should use the stone sealer, and then see if they carry a finish coat more for concrete- perhaps where they sell concrete paints and stains in the Home Depot paint department. Honestly I probably should have done that too, but just used what I had around at the time! I don't want to tell you that the poly is OK and then have someone get hurt.

  • @adjustedfate

    @adjustedfate

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have several ideas on how you go about this but I believe the simplest & cheapest way is to use wood or wire supports. Depending on the height & weight of the posts I would measure from the edge of the bucket to the post in order to scotch wooden supports on each side of the posts using the necessary amount to stabilize the post. I have an idea for heavier post but it’s a bit more effort & hardware. Goodness so many ways to go about this...think of things you can use as guide wires and scotches...it doesn’t have to look pretty since it’s temporary anyways. If you need me to share more ideas let me know I will be happy to help. Good luck.

    So those posts I bury in the ground next to tomato plants, the posts have holes and shower curtain rings on them, and I move the rings as the plant grows to support the vine. Using quickcrete made it pretty easy to get them to stand straight up in the bucket, I don't recall having trouble with that.

    Hi Kathleen- I live outside of Philadelphia, so yes we get freezing weather. Only one cracked last winter, and that one was for some reason a little too thin. So as long as you use the chicken wire and make them thick enough they should be ok

    To hold concrete togather, give it strength for stepping on. Like rebar in driveway and patio.

    If you placed them in a tub of water for two weeks they would get much stronger. Plus, I wouldn't fret over getting the leaves out. They will eventually rot and crumble out.

    @@graylagran7443 Cement sets up through a chemical process that grows interlocking crystals. Once the cement completely dries, that process stops and the concrete is as strong as it is ever going to get. To make it much stronger, you have to keep it wet for a couple of weeks. One way to do that is to set the stepping stones in a tub of water after they have set up enough to handle. Another approach is to spray them with water and then cover with sheet plastic. If you do that approach, you need to check them every day and rewet if necessary.

    Mortar is not concrete

  • @pianovoce
    @pianovoce2 жыл бұрын

    Putting chicken wire in the middle of the concrete has no purpose. The concrete reinforcement is to be put just below the surface, which means just below the top, or just above the bottom of a stepping stone. That is where the concrete needs reinforcement. Middle of concrete is the only place concrete doesn't need reinforcement. If you mistakenly put it in the middle, it wont prevent cracking. It will just prevent from broken pieces falling completely apart, but not prevent breaking in the first place, just as if chicken wire wasn't there at all.
